  1. The camera helmet worries me more than the microlines (says the guy who has done both, and will still do one, guess which).
  2. The last two years at Rantoul there was no formal organizing as far as I could tell, and I only heard an occasional announcement for a pickup load. The CRW tent was mostly used by the RW groups to pack. This year I won't be making it to the Convention, so I haven't even bothered to check into what's going on.
  3. It's pretty simple, but the reserve container needs to be opened. I'd expect to pay for a repack and a small installation fee.
  4. I bought mine a few years ago. Quality is fine, but it got held up in customs forever (not Kurupee's fault). Lately, though, their reputation has taken a beating. When I need a new suit I'll probably go with a domestic dealer.
  5. I started as a college student with a part-time job. I stopped partying, stopped eating fast food, stopped spending any money that I didn't have to spend. It still took me a while to finish my student training and save up for gear (about 9 months). The fact is, training to your A-license and gear will cost several thousand dollars minimum, although you can spend much, much more.
  6. I have over 200 jumps pulling my slider down over type 8 risers (with slinks). I liiked it because I didn't need a keeper to prevent the slider from climbing back up the risers. Your mileage may vary, of course. Any particular reason why you want to load your reserve at almost 1.3:1?
  7. I've been listening to This Week In Tech, hosted by a bunch of the old TechTV guys who got fired when they merged with G4. Also, WFMU in New York releases all of their shows as podcasts, so I've started snagging those instead of listening to the live webcast. NPR is starting to get their act together. Science Friday is available as a podcast, but dammit, I want This American Life and Car Talk. Oh yeah, and Diggnation. They are only on episode two, but it's been entertaining so far.

    Robot Chicken!

God I love that show. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go watch Voltron Gets Served, then come back. I'm not sure how funny it is if you didn't grow up in the late 80s - early 90s. Darth Vader: Luke... I am your father! Luke Skywalker: Noooo! That's impossible! Darth Vader: It's true! And Princess Leia is your sister! Luke Skywalker: That's... improbable. Darth Vader: And the Empire will be defeated by Ewoks! Luke Skywalker: That's... highly unlikely... Darth Vader: And as a kid, I built C-3PO! Luke Skywalker: ...wha? ... Darth Vader: And you know that all-powerful Force? That's really just microscopic bacteria called Midichlorians! Luke Skywalker: Look, if you're not gonna take this seriosuly, I'm outta here!
  9. 0:3:0 My Triathlon hammered me so I quit for the weekend. Did ground crew for the Milwaukee lakefront demo. Took some pictures, caught a flag, drank some beers. It was great meeting all of the out-of-towners. I happen to have some right here.
  10. I just checked my manual and the closest it comes to a solution is "see your Ford dealer".
  11. I've got an 8-pound vest if you want to try it. It's just been taking up space in my gear bag for the last couple of years.
  12. Can I just forward you the contents of my Junk folder? 2500+ messages.
  13. Wendy Faulkner has a list of state CRW records here.
  14. No problem at all for me. Make sure you download the latest drivers for your firewire card from the manufacturers web site.
  15. I have to go with "most of the time" for the first three, and "sometimes" for the chest-mount. I almost always wear a jumpsuit, helmet, and dytter unless I'm doing a hop 'n pop, then I rarely do. I wear a chest altimeter when I'm doing CRW or flying a wingsuit, and usually end up just leaving it on for the weekend. I prefer a digital wrist mount, though.
  16. 246,499.3 square feet. I think. Divide 1/3 by pi to get diamter ( 0.106103385 miles). Divide by 2 to get radius (0.053051693). pi * r^2 = area ( 0.008841949 square miles). convert from square miles to square feet (one statute mile is 5,280 feet, so 27,878,400 square feet per square mile gives 246,499.3 square feet). Does that sound right to everybody? And Kallend better not give me any shit about ignoring significant figures.
  17. Triathlon 160 loaded at aout 1.25:1 with about 300 jumps. Still jhave the same canopy, still doing 90s.
  18. Is this in the IRM somewhere? I flipped through mine and couldn't find anything.
  19. I'm starting to get some good ones. 1888 doesn't show it in the recompressed, resized version that I've attached, but the original is gorgeous. 1848 was pure luck.
  20. Meatwad, because he seems like some innocent child meat-thing, then you watch a couple of episodes and realize that he's an f'ing sociopath.
  21. You'll nail it. This semester I wrote a 15 page paper on Hamlet, starting 8 hours before it was due. You have 29 hours? Piece of cake.
  22. I'm guessing that Premiere 7.0 was renamed Pro 1.0 after Premiere was split into Premiere Pro and Premiere Elements. Adobe also appera to have "reset" the version numbers when Photoshop was split into Photoshop CS and Photoshop Elements. Edit to add: Also, the displayed and internal version numbers don't necessarily have to match. For example, my copy of Windows XP Pro SP2 also refers to itself as Windows 5.1
  23. At most dropzones, there is no upper limit for opening your parachute. With proper planning, you can open up as soon as you exit the plane. We occasionally do jumps called cross-countries, where we fly miles upwind of the airport, open our canopies right away, and then glide the whole way back. As for why more people don't do it? Hell if I know. I love flying my parachute around, chasing clouds, or doing CRW. Most skydivers, it seems, are in it primarily for the freefall and view the canopy ride as just something they have to do to land safely.
