  2. 1. I don't see any wildcards in there 2. It was an example. The logfile path can be chnaged to point anywhere.
  3. I'll almost definitely be at the Sky Knights ones. Don't have a suit anymore, though.
  4. you probably want something like "rm -v filename >> logfile.txt" The -v (verbose) option should force rm to list the files that it is deleting. The >> appends the ouput to the named file. If that doesn't work, try "rm -v filename 2>> logfile.txt"
  5. 6 might be the ship scrapyard in Bangladesh. They run the ships aground at high tide, then at low tide the locals come out and tear them apart. More pics. It's an incredibly dangerous and low paying job, but the visuals are amazing.

  8. I installed it then realized that my laptop doesn't have a built-in microphone. Maybe I can steal one from work.
  9. It's already made it into Urban Dictionary: "Cheney: An unsupected blast... to the face, neck and chest." Nice.
  10. The standard size for cameras is 1/4x20
  11. Craig, Skydivingfatalities.info is resolving to 127.0.0.1 for me (and presumably for airtwardo as well). It seems to be a problem at your end. > skydivingfatalities.info Server: ns6.dns.tds.net Address: 216.165.129.157 Non-authoritative answer: Name: skydivingfatalities.info Address: 127.0.0.1 > root Default Server: A.ROOT-SERVERS.NET Address: 198.41.0.4 > skydivingfatalities.info Server: A.ROOT-SERVERS.NET Address: 198.41.0.4 Name: skydivingfatalities.info Served by: - TLD1.ULTRADNS.NET 204.74.112.1 info - TLD2.ULTRADNS.NET 204.74.113.1 info - TLD3.ULTRADNS.ORG 199.7.66.1 info - TLD4.ULTRADNS.ORG 199.7.67.1 info - TLD5.ULTRADNS.info 192.100.59.11 info - TLD6.ULTRADNS.CO.UK 198.133.199.11 info > skydivingfatalities.info tld1.ultradns.net Server: tld1.ultradns.net Address: 204.74.112.1 Name: skydivingfatalities.info Served by: - ns1.hn.org skydivingfatalities.info - aux1.hn.org skydivingfatalities.info > skydivingfatalities.info ns1.hn.org Server: ns1.hn.org Address: 216.151.80.13 Name: skydivingfatalities.info Address: 127.0.0.1
  12. DPI is just "dots per inch". So just divide the width of the image in pixels by the DPI and that's your number. So if you are shooting full resolution at 3072x2048, the width at 400 dpi is 3072/400 = 7.68 inches. More info: http://www.shortcourses.com/pixels/printed.htm
  13. Fixie mountain bike? Hardcore, man. I have an old touring frame that I was going to convert to fixed, but I'm not sure if I'd have enough motivation to ride it. Now I'm thinking I might try to trade it for a mountain bike or cruiser and convert it to retro-direct for grocery-getting.
  14. I believe the Belkin adapter requires an iPod with a firewire port. The video iPods only have USB 2,0, so it might be an issue.
  15. You probably want something like this or this. A Google search for "ipod compactflash reader" (without the quotes) turned up a few other possibilities as well.
  16. Found a few more. These start to get into the 1930s. Sorry about the quality, the compression settings were wrong and I didn't notice until the original scans were destroyed.
  17. I spent a while looking for a use 160 a couple of years ago. Ended up going with a used hybrid Triathlong 160. Works well for the CRW I do (mostly 2-ways, no offsets) and you can find them in decent shape for $500-ish.
  18. I've heard you need tourist traffic in addition to skydivers to make a tunnel viable. In Wisconsin, that means the Dells. You could also try Gurnee to leech on the tourists going to Six Flags. Chicago would probably be the best bet in the area, in terms of tourism and proximity to DZs.

    Vrank's BASE edit

It looks like his helmet fell off to me.
  20. I found a big stack of 1920s Aviation magazines at work today. Issued weekly, $.15 per issue cover price. I was just glancing through the stack when I saw a great cover shot of two jumpers going off of a Martin Bomber. I also found an old Irvin ad, and another from Henning, who supplied parachutes used to airdrop typewriters (that doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, either). These are all from 1926-1927. It looks like there are hundreds of these magazines. I've only had time to look through a couple dozen, but hopefully I'll find time to check out the rest over the next few weeks.
  21. Could you clarify this? Does the video have to be made especially for this competition, or can I turn in something that I've made previously?
  22. Someday I might have a real desk (with drawers!). It's no big deal, though, I'm only at the desk for about 25% of my day anyway.
  23. Yeah, ephedra products are banned in Illinois because a few kids went and got killed.
  24. I'm a very visual person. If there is no picture I end up going to an online designer and filling in the colors myself, just to see what it looks like. As a seller, I want to do everything possible for a potential buyer, so if that means finding a picture of the canopy in flight or laying it out in the grass, I'll do it. Obviously what is no big deal for me, when selling one canopy every couple of years, is completely impractical for somewhere like Square One.
  25. The further you zoom in, the narrower your depth of field. In order to make up for that, you need to get the aperature narrower (bigger f-stop number). Now you are letting less light through the lens, so you need to go to a slower shutter speed, faster "film", or both. The trick is to balance zoom, aperature, shutter speed, and film speed in order to get enough depth of field while minimizing motion blur and graininess. Personally, I would back off the zoom a bit, go manual focus, and try one of the mostly-manual modes (Tv or Av), P, or full manual.
