Is there going to be any official organizing at either of these events? I might be able to find a few days off to come down, but I'm a newbie (25 jumps, mostly self-taught), and I don't own a Lightning.

Widescreen, because I have a 16:9 screen. Even on a 4:3, I usually go with widescreen because there are some truly awful pan-and-scan jobs out there (A Few Good Men comes to mind).

ArsTechnica reviewed it here and gave it a 9/10. There is even a Pros/Cons section on the last page. There is also link to their forum in the article. Their forum members tend to be pretty competent and would be a great resource for compatibility questions, etc.

What would happen if without wear goggle?
indyz replied to FlyinDawg's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If you have contacts, you will probably loose them. Your eyes will probably water like crazy and it might be painful. It most likely will not result in any permanent damage. Losing goggles or having a full-face helmet come open isn't especially common, but it isn't rare either (mostly caused by improperly adjusted gear or collisions). Some people even regularly jump without any eye protection. If you are jumping in a group and you loose your goggles, it is extremely important that you consider your options instead of just pulling immediately. Unexpected deployments can cause collisions, and collisions can cause death. The couple of times that I had my goggles flip up on RW dives, I just squinted my eyes and carried on. It wasn't comfortable and it was a bit tough to see, but in my case it was the safest option. -
These days, most of them...

It depends on the particular helmet. I baked the shell of my old Mindwarp, but I only baked the liner of my Optik. Read the instructions for your particular helmet (make AND model). If you have any questions, contact the manufacturer. Bonehead, Arrow Dynamics (now out of business), and Cookie were all quick to respond when I had questions.

I've done 13 miles from 10,500 with a Triathlon 160 @ 1.3:1 on a "reverse cross country" with a stiff tailwind. Ground winds were near my limit and the uppers were just ripping.

Race between car and wingsuit on UK TV - Top Gear
indyz replied to unclecharlie95's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Oi! Pay your licence fee you thieving foreigners! :-P Yeah but will it be finely edited to the pertinent segment of the show conveniently formated in WMV so that the Mac (< OS X) users can't watch it? D'oh! How would I go about doing that? Seriously, I paid extra for BBC America until I realized that it was all home renovation and no Doctor Who. I might be willing to cough up the 131.50/year if it meant I could legally download all of the BBC that I wanted. -
It was explicitly told to me at my first DZ that there were no refunds on cash paid into an account, so I guess I've just assumed that it was the policy everywhere. Obviously receiving cash for working jumps is a different matter. Because of that, the only place I've ever put money on account was at my regular DZ, and even then only enough to cover a weekend or two. Anyway, if you can't get you cash back, you could try selling your account credit to another jumper for cash. You might have to give a small discount to make it happen. I've bought credit from another jumper at 105% several times; I give him $20 cash, he transfers $21 to my account.

0:6:0 6 jumps at Hinckley doing 4-way video. Felt good to get back in the swing of things, but I definitely wasn't bringing my A-game most of the day.

For all intents and purposes, I've been cell phone only for about 4 years. I have landlines, but since I bounce around between dorms, home, and now an apartment for an internship, it only makes sense to use a cell phone.

The Right Wally is still listed in the Para Gear catalog, $10.

How many traffic tickets do you have over the last 5 or 6 years?
indyz replied to lawrocket's topic in The Bonfire
Only one, for doing 75 in a 45 construction zone. Somehow that one only cost me about $125 (paid in full; it was out of state so I didn't show up in court and beg or anything). I've also been pulled over three times for dirving without headlights and never ticketed -- I think if you are sober and polite they almost always just tell you to turn them on and send you on your way. -
Last night on Top Gear they showed a short preview montage, incliuding Richard Hammond racing a wingsuit. I don't want to know who won (I know who I'd put my money on), but does anybody have any non-spoiler details? Where it was filmed, who the flyer is?

Then it's lick pass time. Just be careful, 'cause some cleaning products taste really bad. Also, if it's very cold out your tongue can stick a little.

That's what I've been doing when I coach. I've found (in my limited experience) that if you tell somebody to "wait one second", they tend to wait too long.
-
Agree with you there. It's pretty good as it is, but it would be a lot better if they replaced the Upset Wives Club with more shooting.
-
I'm going to be a "probably no." I have an internship and it would be bad form to ask for time off. I might be able to sneak away for a weekend, but I won't know for sure until the last minute. Sucks to miss two years in a row, but oh well.

Are they also releasing drivers? That seems to be the main problem right now, you can boot XP just fine, but nothing useful works because there aren't any drivers. Anyway, I would count on VMWare for Intel Macs long before Virtual PC. VMWare currently has Windows and Linux versions, so they already have a good start on the issues that porting would pose. I'm one of those users that hates dual booting. I'll take the speed hit from running Virtual PC or VMWare long before I'll waste my time bringing the system up and down every time I need Outlook.

That's what I was going to say! Like last night after some stupid teenager wrecked his car in my front yard, I called the cops then stood on my front porch and soaked up the schadenfreude.

Now with video (WMV). You can clearly see the thermal blanket that failed to seperate, and the camera continues to record all the way to impact with the ocean.

The Falcon I lifted off then... uh, nobody knows. I was going to say "went boom", but from the webcast it looks like it went out of control first. After all of the setbacks and delays, it's too bad. I was rooting for those guys. More details here.

I have a PC-105 C-bracket. The top could be cut off pretty easily to turn it into an L-bracket.

I hate you so much. And I emailed that to about 20 of my closest (soon to be former) friends.
