  1. The expressway is right by Union Station! Yea but if you arent used to the fun streets of downtown chicago...and all there fun one-wayness.... easy to get lost.... I've been taking the train to Union Station every week since January and I still get myself lost on occasion. It's easier than it looks (or I'm dumber than I look). And to add to what SkyMedic said, in my experience Amtrak trains are never on time. I used to take the train up from Champaign (only a 120 mile trip) a few times a year and I could count on being at least 30-45 minutes late.
  2. There's nothing you can do about that attitude. A lot of these people have counted Hitchhiker's as one of their favorite books since high school or before. Of course they are going to be sensitive to changes, even if their rational side understands that an exact translation between mediums simply doesn't work and would be far worse (yeah, Sin City, every rule has an exception).

    Chicagoeese....

Let's not talk about Schaumburg. I'm driving there from Gurnee three times a week for classes.

"Seven-ten east Green in Bensonville, near O'Hare!" I've lived here for 22 years and if somebody tells me to take the Ike or the Kennedy, I just stare at them until they give me the numbers. Pathetic, I know.
  5. I just drilled the holes big enough to fit the plugs through. Even the CamEye has a little lip around the button, so if you drill the hole just right, you can just pop it through. See the attached pictures.
  6. I drilled a whole through the box and helmet for my PC105. I might have been able to snake the cable out the back of the box, but going straight into the helmet was cleaner.
  7. I've taken the coach course twice because I got busy after the first one and never did the evals, so I took it again (about 9 months later). The first one was a cake walk. The second was more difficult and I felt a better course overall. It wasn't easy but not difficult either. From what I've heard, the difficulty of coach courses varies widely... I've heard of some that are basically "gimmes" and some that are incredibly difficult, failing a majority of the candidates. Your best bet is to talk to people who have taken the course from the same director. Find out what he/she wants to see in class and in the air. Practice the air eval if possible. The more prepared you are before you go into the course the easier it will be.
  8. 0:3:0 I'm finally starting to get used to shooting stills with my Digital Rebel. Finally got some decent ones this weekend.
  9. The links in the "More GoWear T-Shirts" section are offsite links. It looks like whoever runs go-wear.com has rearranged their site since the dropzone.com t-shirt page was updated.
  10. Pics of the road warriors. Totally not worth getting arrested over.
  11. The buffer is where the camera stores photos before writing them to the memory card. Most digital SLRs can take pictures faster than they can be written to the memory card. If the buffer is only large enough to hold one photo, you would have a long delay between taking pictures while the image is copied from the buffer to the memory card. A larger buffer allows you to continue taking pictures while the buffer copies to the memory card in the background. This is especially important on skydives when you want to rip off a lot of pictures really quickly, like at exit or deployment. Just by looking at the specs (larger buffer and improved memory card write speed), the XT should kick the original DR's ass in this respect.
  12. iTunes bogging down with large libraries is a well-known problem. This article has a possible solutions, but it might not be appropriate for your situation. YMMV. Edit to add: Apparently iPhoto 4 addresses some performance problems. You might consider upgrading.
  13. The tests are really pretty easy. Going over the suggested studying a few times should be more than enough to pass.
  14. OK, whoever sent this one in, 'fess up.

    Vegas!!!

It is almost literally shot-for-panel from Frank Miller's graphic novels. If you think you'd enjoy twisted noir comics, go you'll probably love the movie.
  16. The hangar swoop was probably WFFC '03. The guy has a web site here
  17. SMS is text messaging. I get something like a 100 messages per month with my plan. It's about 98 more than I ever actually use. If your plan doesn't specify how many messages you get, you probably pay per message (sent or received), about $.05-$.10 in most cases.
  18. I had three completely random room mates in college. Couldn't stand a single one. I mean, they were nice people, just not the sort of people I would ever choose to live with. They were all slobs (I'm not a neat freak or anything, but pizza boxes go in the garbage when you are done eating, not when the smell become unbearable), one liked to hold bible studies in our room without telling me, and one stayed up all night every night playing some weird Korean MMORPG (he was a white boy from Virginia, didn't speak a single word of Korean, so how that all worked is a mystery). The only good thing that happened was one of them didn't show up for the entire semester, but his rent was prepaid so they never sent me a replacement roommate. My only option was to move to an apartment, which I couldn't afford. Then again, some of my friends are now best friends with their completely random room mates.
  19. Right-click on the song, select "Get Info", then select the "Info" tab in the window that pops up.
  20. They are. One of the instructors in apparently from Chicago, so he could have taken or otherwise legitimately acquired them.
  21. Aren't those the same people who would have bought Crossfire 2s anyway if the Katana 135 and 150 had never been announced? How did they "refuse" to service their customers? By not selling canopies that don't meet their standards yet? Come on man. They sell what they sell, and if you don't like it, go somewhere else but there is no reason to bitch about it.
