  4. Diamond Mine is also very good. Ski Stunt Simulator is fun, too. I've only played the Java version, don't have Windows on this box. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  5. That's DES, right? I was pretty sure that they nailed down RC5-56 in a little bit less than a year. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  6. A (very quick) search on whitepages.com show 2 people by the name of Jeff Fish in TX. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  7. Bruce Schneier, an expert on encryption, regarding the description of VME: "This makes no sense, even to an expert." -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  8. Mine's gibberish. I was signing up with an ISP about 4 years ago and wanted an easy to remember name with no numbers tacked on the end. I started using it as a nick everywhere soon after, since anything involving my name was usually taken. Funny thing, I had never actually said it out loud until somebody asked me about it a few months ago. Up until then, it had always been just a string of letters. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  9. Illinois is 65 throughout the state, and 55 is pretty popular around Chicago. Of course, if you actually go 55, everybody else who is doing 85-95 in the slow lane will run you off the road, so I guess it works out in the end. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  10. From what I've heard, the crime in national parks is "illegal aerial delivery." Climbing El Capitan is perfectly legal, aerially delivering yourself to the bottom isn't. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath

  13. Macs are good for, among other things: Word processing, web browing, graphics, audio, and video. They are just a good as, if not better, than Wintel machines at almost everything except for games, and they are catching up there. From a support side, they seem to break less than Wintel hardware. The newer tower models are a complete joy to maintain; 30 seconds from power down to power up for a memory upgrade. They can be set up for a network in less than a minute by an 8 year old or an 80 year old. If I had to recommend a new computer for my parents or my grandmother, it would be a Mac. Power Mac G4 (Faster) for my parents, new iMac (Combo Drive) for Grandma. For the average light use home user, the new iMacs are the best thing going right now. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  14. Assuming that brute force is the only reasonable method of breaking the code (i.e., there aren't any mathematical shortcuts or weaknesses within the algorithm), a megabit key would take basically forever to break with current technology. Of course, they don't give out the details of the algorithm, so that makes it even harder. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  15. I know (or at least I think I know) HH's real name. But yeah, it is a little odd. I can't remember who claimed to know Bossman in real life. Found this link through Google: http://www.geocities.com/Yosemite/4422/ It has an ever elusive photo of HH on it (and a lot of 404s and terrible graphics). -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath

From what I gathered at the meeting, the swoop pond isn't actually getting dug out, but they are building a series of berms in the outline of the pond, then pumping it full of water. Either way, I'll get to see some swooping up close. Too cool. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  17. I'm a compressed air man, myself. Just too much trouble with explosives. My best gun is made entirely out of PVC and Tupperware with only one moving part (the Tupperware) and can easily launch a potato or apple core 300 yards with 200 psi of compressed air. My other gun uses an electrically actuated water sprinkler valve rated to 125 psi that is pretty weak on fruit and vegetable distance, but can launch a half gallon of water hard enough to knock me on my ass. Of course, as far as pneumo guns are concerned, the annual Pumpkin' Chunkin' contest in Morton, IL is where it's at. Last year's winner was Old Glory, with a toss of slightly more than 3900 feet. This was actually less than it's winning chunk in 2000, 4085 feet. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  18. 1) Gold. A huge chunk of it. 2) Somewhere with mountains, in Europe. The German Alps were nice, but all I saw was from the road. Maybe Norway or Denmark (Fjords! BASE jump!) 3) Rachel Benson (she made me say that). -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath

    Uh oh!

Little brown guys are "Domo-kun" a character froma Japanese show. My best guess is that picture originated on Fark.com, since they use Domo and that cat (nicknamed "cliche kitty") in a lot of their Photoshop work. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath

Winner! By a 4-2 vote, it's on. It was really tense for a while but Kirlin stepped up and turned things around right before the vote by basically gambling $10,000 that the city will end up signing a contract for next year as well. So yeah. Mark you calendars. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath

So I was at the Rantoul village board meeting thingamajig tonight along with FallingMarc, Don Kirlin, Beth Mahlo, and others. Something happened. More details after I get a dozen or so threatening PMs. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
  25. I have an Abit board and it does rock other than not cooperating with my GeForce 2, but my Matrox card with dualhead support works fine. Now all I need is room for my second monitor in the dorm . BTW, you probably don't need a whole new motherboard, just a new Flash ROM chip for the bios. Some motherboards have a soldered on flash rom, but most can be yanked out with a chip puller and replaced. -- Brian Homepage AIM: suprmath
