Illinois: Land of Lincoln Bird: Cardinal Flower: Uh... Animal: hmmm. Song: I'm hoping not. -- Brian

We have an OC12 connection between UIUC and UIC for offsite backups. Between the two campuses we have mirrors of any software you could ever want. Totally killer. -- Brian

It's a law that the rights of a minor can't be signed away. It's the DZ's policy to avoid getting sued. -- Brian

Lorry: How the rest of the English-speaking world refers to a semi truck. -- Brian

Shit in the sink. No guy is gonna use it anyway. -- Brian

It's another one of those web quizzes: Which Colossal Death Robot Are You? I am Bender - "Bite My Shiny Metal Ass!" -- Brian

Punkin Chunkin takes place in beautiful Morton, Illinois. Having witnessed the carnage myself, all I can say is wow. A couple of the pneumatic launchers average well over 3000 ft. -- Brian

That's a badass video. I'll have to see if I can find a link to it. Of course, the grill is slag by the end so cooking burgers on it isn't really an option... -- Brian

If I recall correctly, the server is in Texas. And it wasn't offensive. It was one of those "100% all natural Wang-Grow" sites that I get a half dozen spams a day from. Think somebody is trying to send a message? -- Brian

Favorite power tool ever: Hole Hawg. It's like the power drill from hell. I saw a guy on a tall step ladder using one to drill up into a ceiling when the bit bound up. He spun around twice, knocked the ladder out from under himself and hung from there until we set the ladder back up. Only broke 2 fingers. -- Brian

That's a pretty high quality web site for a scam. -- Brian

The Straight Dope also did a very interesting (and very, very long) five part series on the author(s) of the Bible/Torah. Really interesting stuff. -- Brian

Put in the IP number that AndyMan posted in the other Happy Hour thread. -- Brian

Ditto. I met these two Canadians at an HVAC convention (don't ask). Oh my god. "aboot, aboot, aboot, eh, eh, eh." But they bought me beer and were funny as hell, so they have that going for them. -- Brian

Here's some hardcore Lego porn for y'all. -- Brian

It depends on how powerful of a comptuer you want to power. A modern computer will draw at least 300 watts at 110V assuming a normal amount of drives, fans, PCI cards, and a fairly fast processor. This does not include your display device and any other peripherals that need AC power. Most of the invertors (the things that Dave mentioned) on the consumer market can't handle that kind of a draw. -- Brian

Just thought I'd bring this up again. Voting has ended with a total score of 7.1. -- Brian

I was talked out of buying a Gath in this thread. I've also seen some people wear a full face with the lense off. -- Brian

"Why doesn't Johnny get good grades? He's just too goddamn stupid to learn trig, that's why," versus, "Johnny needs to concentrate more in class and maybe get some tutoring." -- Brian

I'm in a dorm, so I don't even get to pick my roommates. One of them moved out at the beginning of the semester, and that was good. It feels mean to say this, but the dude smelled. I could tell if he had been in the room in the last half hour as soon as I walked through the door. My other roommate, who sill lives here, doesn't smell but he has some really annoying habits. He plays the same 4 MP3s over and over. I can't stand Treetop Flyer anymore, and if he is going to insist on singing along with it he should at least get the words and timing right. He is also a slob. See the attached picture. My desk is on the left. The bedpost with the clothes hanging off of it is his, along with everything in the righthand picture. If you can't make it out, that's no less than a half dozen pop cans, various food wrappers, dirty laundry and god knows what else. It has also recently started spilling over into what I thought had been established as my area. Our personalities don't match as well as roommates should, but I can't blame him for that. I can, however, blame him for drinking my Dr. Pepper, drinking my beer (did I say beer? I live in a dorm, so of course I don't have beer...), staying up all night and keeping me awake, leaving the door unlocked, leaving the windows and occasionally the screens open (we live on the first floor), never cleaing up after himself, and taking over the spare bed for what appears to be a combination garbage dump and hamper. -- Brian

I'm sensing sarcasm. He wasn't shot at and as far as I know he wasn't even threatened. The farmer was probably just wondering what the hell was going on. -- Brian
