Never worked a poker game before huh??
-
You still going to need me to deal? I'd like to play in 1 sat if I could. If your going to be busy running the tourney I'm more than happy to deal them all if need be or go on a 20 min/40 min rotation.

One dz I work at we direct bag the main and close the rig with a wrap of break-cord tied with a surgeons knot. Another dz is just direct-baged without break-cord. Dz 1 I feel a lot better with the break-cord as the student is climbing out and jumps. Dz2 I am EXTRA careful as they are climbing out because 1) there's no break-cord and 2) these rigs are switched back and forth between s/l and aff ripcord with a spring loaded pc. Therefore the closing loop either needs to be adjusted every time you switch or you have a very loose closing loop without the spring loaded pc in the rig. Most of the rigs are set up with a BOC and I don't know why they are still using ripcords.(not my decision though) I'm definitely a lot more vigilant as to what and where the rig is rubbing as they are climbing out.....and ready to give them a "friendly boot" if the container opens Got me there..... Packers work for the dropzone....no need to convince. Either do it or don't pack!!

Safety Day 2005; What did you learn from it?

Don't jump into a totally enclosed landing area in high gusty winds...... -
Really??!! I'd hate to think people got to spend this $$ to re-route something they DON'T EVEN HAVE! You sure you read the SB correctly? Might want to read it again...... From the website...http://www.miragesys.com/ProductInfo/ServiceBulletins.aspx Mirage Systems is announcing a new Product Service Bulletin concerning the Automatic Activation Device cutter location on all of its harness/container systems. If you are a Mirage owner and benefit from the additional safety provided by an AAD option, this PSB applies to you.

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out the reason for the SB. Is it a case of a "newer" company trying to cover their a$$ or just raise awareness within the community? Maybe somebody who didn't know that the cables should be cleaned regularly and will read the SB?!?....Anybody close to the manufacturer care to elaborate why they put out a SB?

= can't jump = more time to review safety items. I think it's a perfect time at the beginning of the year to "retrain".

We tried to get it so you could see it next weekend.....didn't work out though...

Beware of Kenny Ruetsch selling a Sabre 107
divnswoop replied to JumpHog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This guy only lives about 10 min from where I stay when I'm in cbus... I could give him a personal visit around the end of the month. We have a cutaway rig up "north" and I'd be happy to take it up and check it out. I have quite a few jumps on sherry's 97/107 sabres. But after hearing the canopy was jumped another 200 jumps after the collapse, that leads me to believe it was either a one time incident or jumper error. That quote to beezy reminded me of.... me: What the HELL is that? senior jumper: That's a paradactyl. me: Wow..it looks weird sj:yeah they are a little strange the way..... me breakin in: LOOK AT THAT IT COLLAPSED!!! sj:No, that's just the way they turn, want to jump one? me:uh......no thanks -
The next fatality waiting to happen.....
divnswoop replied to divnswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Well, that is exactly what this guy did.....The full story is out now. When he bought the gear and returned to his "home" dz, a senior jumper said he wouldn't be able to jump that gear for a while. (He went from a manta 260 to a diablo 135) He replied," I got such a good deal I couldn't turn it down."(after some experienced people said he could,"Jump it on windy days." wink, wink, good luck) Now it looks like he's traveling around trying to jump his gear. To get back to your question, I don't think you should have gear in your possession that your not experienced enough to fly. The temptation is there to get in the air with it. As far as reselling it...if your not capable of flying the gear yourself, how in the world can you talk intelligently about it to somebody else let alone be able to figure out if the buyer is "capable" of the chute. I know there are plenty of people who don't care who they are selling what to. I know if I sold somebody with little to no experience a canopy like this and they hook it in the next weekend, I'd have a bit of guilt about it. Obviously there are people out there that wouldn't. The whole,"maybe the guy selling it just didn't know" doesn't fly in my book.(in this case) If you have 5000 jumps you've been long around enough and should be a little smarter than that. I guess I just feel that there is a buyer AND seller responsibility when it comes to gear. If your an inexperienced/uninformed buyer, you need to seek the advise of a instructor/s&ta. If your an experienced seller selling to an inexperienced jumper, I feel you have the same responsibility to discuss it with the buyers instructor. I am living case of somebody getting his hands on something that was over his head. In 1993 with 9 jumps I bought a brand new vector, swift 143, cypress, and a SABRE 120!! So with 23 jumps I had all brand new gear in hand and ready to jump. Why did I have a 120? because I had the $$ to buy it. Looking back I feel the DZO was very irresponsible for selling me this gear. I was lucky enough not to hurt myself on it, but the odds of an accident were VERY high with me. ANYWAY, i sometimes doubt why we even discuss this stuff on here. There are still going to be people who do what they want and ignore suggestions from more experienced jumpers. Then we get to read about them in the incidents..(every single week this year!) -
So to clarify, the jumper had 2 out? So did the vigil fire during the main deployment or what? The original post made it sound like "nothing" got out except the reserve after the aad fire. Did the main deploy after the fire? You were 200 feet above a jumper(landing) that had an aad fire?

I can see how you deal with the dogs and the bird....but damn, that last one is a handfull!!!! Can't wait to see ya again! I'll be around Tuesday, when will you need help setting up?
-
LOL...I tried that a couple times, and yes people did respond!!!......OH WAIT! you were talking about bringing it up in the chat room....oops!
-
Twoply asked me to expand on it. I was "trying" to keep it to myself, he wanted more. In a non-public forum there would be a whole lot more I could say about this. I have a question for you pringles: You as a jumper assumes that one day you WILL go in in some form or another base jumping?

How long can you go without killing kittens????

[rushing through the door] " I'M OUT!!!!!!" [rushing back out the door] -
First let me say this....I like Alex. Are we good friends, no. Would I base with him, no. I wasn't insulting the guys overall intelligence, I question his base jumping intelligence(and sometimes his sking). Just cause he got hurt on this jump DOESN'T mean that this was his "first" lack of judgement or mistake. It's just the time it caught up with him. I don't know how long you have known him or how many jumps you've done with him. All I'm saying is that I'm not surprised that he hurt himself. Some people get a bad break here and there, then there are people that are chasing down an accident. Trying a front flip w/twist,stop, then backflip w/twist, throw, from 600 is a bit much. Can it be done, yes. Degree of difficulty is high though. So, if somebody wants to go balls the the wall, fine. I just get a little tired of hearing,"Oh he was such a smart and safe base jumper." His decisions to do what he does is his business. I'm content on reading what he did wrong and warning the next guy that won't pay any attention to me. I hear he's getting a private jet ride back to columbus to try and put his leg back together. Maybe I'm just jealous...he's had several chopper rides(including a huey) and a private jet ride! Once again I'll say, I hope he fully recovers and can return to whatever his heart desires.

Maybe she has just blocked you!

Yup- that was my video you saw! Ya gotta start somewhere! Yeah with all those lakes around you at fingerlakes I'd thought you would have found a good swooping area by now!!! Maybe sunset jumps into the local bars on the water!

The next fatality waiting to happen.....
divnswoop replied to divnswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Is this the same guy that is having surgery to fix his broken leg? I agree Art, the more I'm finding out about some of these people in Georgia the more ticked off I'm getting. "You'll be alright on a windy day"......?!?! "Oh! I didn't know I couldn't drink then jump" !?!? **edit to add: I know it's not all Georgia jumpers...just a select few ** -
That's a pretty highly loaded canopy for as many jumps as you have. You might want to go up a size for a couple hundred jumps!
-
So is this the reason(thread) that Brigitte took her aviator off?? good job guys!

Yeah, I'm curious to find out more about this "demo" team and the seller of the gear.
