I had the pleasure of working with Bram and Elly for several summers in Ohio. How great are they?!!!!! Bram is one of those people who strives to become a better instructor everyday. Thankfully, a little of that wears off onto the instructors around him. No matter how many jumps you have, he is always asking questions and showing you different ways to look at the same situation. Elly and I had a AFF student that was, lets just say a handful! The exit went to crap, she flushed, and after wrestling for 6,600' I ended up pulling this guy @ 7,400. As soon as we landed he is right there asking me what happened and what went on. While he is giving me a hard time, Elly is over my other shoulder telling him to "shut-up Bram, you were not there." I'm thankful that she was there to back my decision, but I know Bram was there to make sure I came to the right conclusion to the problem.(giving me a hard time about it was just bonus) I'm a little sad I don't get to see either of them in freefall anymore, but I do see some of his thinking in mine when I'm talking to newer instructors about stuff. Miss you guys! swoop ....best compliment I ever got from Bram is when he and I took a level 3 out with me on the mainside....first time I ever saw him go reserve in 3 years...( I thought I was going to have to intentionally funnel an exit to ever end up on the main side)

We going to have a mini-web-show like the apprentice? Make some mock threads and have the canidates respond to them and slowly vote people out?

Nope, just had to read the bottom of that post! now -
***Right, except there are a lot of aircraft flying with SB's not complied with. A rigger would have the same defense an A & P does. If the owner doesn't want the SB applied, the rigger/ A & P can complete the work that is required and sign off the rig/aircraft If the aircraft crashes because the SB wasn't complied with, it isn't the A & P's fault any more than the rigger's fault with a rig.*** Thanks for the additional info Derek! Is there a special document that a rigger would need to fill out of the owner doesn't want to comply with the SB? ( I always just made sure the SB was met and never had this question come up) Also, has there been any incidents of a airplane crash that was due to a SB not being followed that you know of? Where could I do more research on this...any ideals?

Yeah, I was thinking more along the lines of the whole race/religion thing.... which by the way, -
Not with this particular SB, but on other SB's I wouldn't want my pack job on a rig that didn't meet all SB's for that rig.For instance, if somebody was jumping a Jav and had a horseshoe on the main closing loop grommet and went in, I bet your going to have one big headache explaining to the Faa or a judge that the SB isn't mandatory and you explained that to the dead jumper. As a rigger I'm looking to cover my a$$ AND make sure the jumper is jumping a rig as safe as it can be. That is true though, according to the FAR's SB's are not mandatory.

Why aren't Riggers charging more for hard to pack reserves?
divnswoop replied to peek's topic in Gear and Rigging
I don't charge different rates for different rigs but,... I had a timing belt changed in my 2000 celica and the mechanic charged me $590. I also had a timing belt replaced in a 1996 Ford 150 and it was only $429. Was this mechanic unethical to me? Re-lines cost different amounts on different capopies. Different jobs=different costs. While I don't charge any different, I don't necessarily think it's "unethical". -

I completely agree with that statement and thank you for elaborating on my point again.... The buyer can buy a jump ticket from the seller. The seller is completely within his right to refuse to sell to the buyer for any reason.(within the law) That includes NOT selling a jump ticket to someone who is not experienced enough to jump the gear he wants to jump. If the seller chooses to sell the ticket to him, that's his choice. Just like it's the locals choice to try and shut down an operation because of the numerous accidents at a dz. Just like it's the family of the deceased choice to sue the dropzone for negligence in allowing the jumper to jump the gear against several recommendations by the "governing body". Just like it's the neighbors choice to sue the dz for damages that the jumper did landing/emotional distress of watching somebody die hitting their front lawn. So I don't think the rules have changed on you, and thank you for bringing up a side to my point that I was unaware of! -
Wow...haven't seen many of those DZ's around!!!
-
I have taken tandems a "bit larger" than 250. But they were in excellent shape and capable of taking care of their legs.(one was a marine that was 6'8"...he weighed the most...but I'm 6'2' and only 160 with orangutan arms)
-
grommits behind the 3 rings should touch?
divnswoop replied to noahgordon's topic in Safety and Training
Scary........as long as YOU were fine with it? Until you have a license you are the responsibility of the DZ/Instructors... -
It really depends on what phase the moon is in.....
