What makes a "Welcome to Ohio" party ... is it polka and peppermint schnapps, or is seeing Indiana (or Michigan) in the rearview mirror celebration enough? You forgot West Virginia!!!! (unless your looking for jumps from a "lower" altitude)

Legit?!!!!???? maybe why???

It may take a day or two for a couple of the people to reply!!!! I didn't get to go to the tasting because I was rigging till 10...but did join them afterward. I'm pretty sure they all had fun, last night... now today... ..... We killed all 3 bottles on top of the Jager machine last night too!!!

The 180 theory is good assuming everybody is facing the centerpoint on the 4-way.....That rarely happens..There are only a couple of 4-way formations where you can "turn 180 and track". As your learning the formations you'll notice that certain people are normally on a certain side of you. (unless your doing b slots or mirror images/slot switches) Try to visualize all the formations having a quadrant for each jumper. The "point" will rarely turn at all to track.(because they are normally facing away from the centerpoint of the formation.) It's important to start your track at a 90 degree angle to the two closest teamates. Tail(and point) are tracking at a 90 away from outside center and inside center. Watch airspeeds tapes, they do an excellent job of dividing all the points into 4 quadrants. Your job is to know the point and where your quadrant is in relation to the point so you do the appropriate turn to get the best separation.

LOL!!! Yeah, things are rough on us northeners.... We got two weeks of temptation and teasin(70-80's...blue skies) Now there's nothing to do but drink!!! (and watch it snow, sleet, rain, watch A sucker hole...repeat back to the top.)

AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
divnswoop replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Alright, let's see if I can do this. What I've figured out from this thread: There are at least three types of device dependent jumpers. 1. Jumpers who are willing to jump beyond their ability/normal acceptable risk level/ just because they have an AAD on their back. ( I would call them AAD reliant) They rely on their AAD to save them because they intentionally put themselves on a jump that was over their head. Most of us have seen/heard jumpers like this, and most of us on this thread agree they are dangerous. 2. Jumpers who weigh their acceptable risk, their abilities, the jump at hand and determine they are capable of the skydive. Because of past incidents(freefall collisions, possible nasty aff, being hit from behind by a jumper/cameraman, flying with newbie freeflyers, being hit by a plane or meteor) they decide that it is an intelligent thing to have a backup device incase something like this would happen. We'll call this device dependent also.(by definition...I think it sounds negative, but see the argument in it.) 3. Jumpers who think they need nothing more than a harness and a single canopy to bring them down.(still device dependent) Now, there are an infinite amount of skydives that result in at least some type of risk. 1.The safest: Living at least 100 miles from the nearest dz and not ever jumping. .......down to..... 9999999. Jumping on a 100 way formation load where nobody has ever made a skydive. Now we all fall somewhere in between this. A group here has the opinion that when they go on this next jump they: Are qualified, capable, and feel the jump is within their acceptable risk levels......and then they choose to do the jumps with a cypres/helmet/altimeter/goggles because they feel it's an intelligent thing to have when they jump. They don't feel it makes the skydive "safer". Just like the idea of having the gear "in case" Another group sees the last part of that and thinks they are ALL device dependent("which they are") BUT that doesn't necessarily put them in the first group of people above. They didn't make their decision on the backup gear...they ADDED it as a backup only after they thought they were within their limits. There IS a difference between the two even if you can say a blanket statement like, I won't do this jump without..... I understand where people would think they are accepting risks because they won't do a jump without certain backups, but I don't feel that is the case in every scenario. We all weigh the possible outcomes between 1 and 99999. And there are millions of variables and possible outcomes because of it. so let's begin round 32!!!! ding ding! -
LOL!!! I can ONLY hope they are doing it digitally......If they not....and each copy gets worse and worse.....

What can we do about Skyride?
divnswoop replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was referring to large aircraft owners who lease their airplanes out to other dz's....They are no longer doing this to dz's who accept skyride certificates or have any business relations with them. -

Well.....there are a handfull of airplane, business, and dz owners that are already doing that..... -
AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
divnswoop replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
And this, First statement I'm making a decision to (based on my experience, ablility, and risk management) do a jump. Then I choose to wear a cypres purely as a backup device. The second, someone decides to do a jump with either higher risk, over their ability, because they have a cypres. I see them as two different things. No, it doesn't remove the chance of something bad happened.. it will possibly help if something does. I jump like it's not there. It in no way changes the way I look at a jump. I agree... these people infuriate me!! But to blanket the entire skydiving community saying they a dependent if they won't do a certain skydive without a cypres, I disagree with. After reading all the posts I guess I can see why you think that the cypres affects my decisions... I see it as: Jump---risk factor---my ability---comfortable with the jump?-yes---cypres as back-up. I think other people on the thread see my views as: Jump---risk factor---ablility---cypres--"makes" me comforable. -
Yeah, our manifester was standing there after I landed...she goes," Why you breathing so hard??"

AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds
divnswoop replied to Hooknswoop's topic in Safety and Training
Obviously we look at it from two different viewpoints. I agree I agree....but think this is worse than the first example. I ABSOLUTELY agree hence my previous post: Niether....I use it as a backup incase something bad happens that I have no control over. -
OMG!!! I was just a un-informed yankee!! I never realized that he came from ASC...I thought you guys found him in the hills, shaved him down, and taught him to speak! (That is why he can't spell) I had NO IDEA how deep this truly ran!!! I weep for the future of skydiving!!!!!

AAD's & Personal Acceptable Risk Thresholds

Then on the .00005% chance the aff guy gets knocked out on this jump, there will be a whole new layer of people pointing fingers at why he didn't have an aad and the irony that he always jumped with one. If you your qualified, able, and it's within your acceptable risk level to do aff and will only do it if you have a cypres, screw those people who want to label you as device dependent. You have already demo'd your skillz as an I and don't have to prove anything to somebody on a computer 1000 miles away. Well than I guess my thinking is NO BETTER than the FAR's or USPA because I will not do aff without a cypres. I realize as I step out of that plane, get in that car, jump off that bridge, raft down those rapids that I (nor anybody else) is 100 % in control of the things or people in their surroundings. If you think you are...your fooling yourself. There have been very experienced jumpers with 1000's of more jumps than me die due to circumstances beyond their control where a cypres could have changed the outcome. I feel that I owe it to my family, friends, and most of all myself to have this backup device on jumps such as aff and newbie freeflying. You say, ..and label me as device dependent and that's fine. That's your opinion. I have jumped without an aad for several hundred jumps, and seen what can go wrong with aff and freeflying. My opinion is to always do those jumps with a cypres. Cypres are going for about $1200.....the average funeral is about $6000. Your personal acceptable risk is below what mine is and that's your decision. I hope none of us ever get into a situation where we get knocked out by a nasty AFF student or a newbie freeflyer, but it has happened. Have fun discussing the rest of the thread!! -
Nope......didn't do that either on this particular student......Somehow he learned that on his own though! .....Oh by the way, his feet weren't on his ass....they were kicking like he was in a 50M freestyle swim meet.

Finally!!!!! Somebody with the balls to stand up and say what most of us have been thinking!!! All this clutter on this site about aad's and high performance landings, I'm glad to see somebody is addressing our true problem facing the sport today!! Because of Shimell I've missed several Sunday jumping days because of his awesome spinning!! Let's do something about this....(just make sure he has no electronics in his pocket!!!)
