I've met Pat at a boogie in Spain and he was a great guy to hang around. He was the opposite of a skygod. Almost convince me to jump a 176 to do CRW. My buddy Jamie got more balls and did CRW with Pat and they end up on the cover of skydive mag. Fly free Pat and it was an honor to known you. Regards, Jean-Arthur Deda. What book would you recommend for a newcomer to this sport?

DZ bathroom lecture. Read then slowly and 80 times while spacing out at the DZ. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls! -
Agreed! Got a Sabre2 from likestojump. Sweet colors and brand new (fabrick wise). I`ve missed the postal worker (due to work) so I had to go to the postal office to get my new baby from a girl that worked there. Nice girl too! We might go out so double "thank you" likestojump! I'll let you know if we ever get married! Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

I have problems pronouncing that word ... ellipticalityousness It reminds me of surreptitiousness, punctiliousness and mellifluousness Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Don't tip and hang around, basically just be there. The opposite might happen. I've done most of my coach jumps free in the sun-set, thanks to nice people and being there! Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Theoretic nazi here but if anything on downwind with a strong wind gradient there's probably more lift in the flare than on nilwind landing or upwind landing(with the same wind gradient). With a strong wind gradient on downwind your relative wind speed is increasing (giving more lift) and on a up-wind the relative wind sped is decreased (making you drop - less lift on flare). I know it's not really practical but it might still be true. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Thanks Rob and just out of curiosity: In your opinion changing the location of the cascade would influence the flight characteristics? (Considering that when we flare we swing in front of the wing changing the weight distribution between lines) Regards, Jean-Arthur Deda. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

What would happen if we cascaded more lines like 2A or 2B together or 2 AB once more? Something like the power-kites & paragliders have. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Buy PMS - Packing Made Simple. It's really worth it! However, I've stick with Pro-pack thingy

Now that I'm reading and understanding where you come from, it suddenly doesn't sound like "skills vs protection" balance anymore. It totally makes sense. I also hope that you can agree with me that the average skydiver shouldn't consider using one just because s/he's afraid of a face plant on a nil wind day while landing his wing. Traffic pattern. Did I do the right thing?
d123 replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in Safety and Training
Bro, like yourself, I'm also a guy who fuck-up patterns from time to time and I HOPE that I'll stop doing that in the future! It does gets weirder when you change DZ and/or LZ (landing out). However, from my limited experience co-existing with the wind (power-kite included) when the wind changes 90 degree it means either that the wind is close to 0 (no wind) or that the wind gust is way too strong for me to jump. I've visited some DZ in Europe where (or I should say: I've been talk to and learned something at a DZ in Europe where ) they lock the landing arrow and everybody lands perfectly safe crosswind. They prefer people to land cross wind than to see them changing pattern in the middle of the landing. Hope you've paid your beer bro cuz I'm guessing this is the 1st time you did this !!!! Glad you've like it. We should have more articles like that one ! Shouldn't Pulse have a more tapper shaped? clicky Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

from the theoretical point of view: Semantics. One manufacturer use semi-elliptical/slightly elliptical the other one use slightly tapper. One says elliptical the other one says highly tapper. Aerodyne tried to introduce planform factor to describe how elliptical a wing is but it didn't click because some characteristics are depending on how elliptical the LE is and other on TE. John LeBlanc from PD has a pretty nice explanation of what is elliptical and how it f*X*s you up if you're not ready for it. I've never knew that Stiletto and Sabre1 share the same Airfoil, trim and almost aspect ratio until I've read this paper. clicky from the practice point of view: I would stick with manufacturer recommendation for each canopy and build the necessary experience before going *elliptical*. Really, a relaxed track is not a track, it's called a delta, and it's a good way to get down to a formation below and in front of you. Your fall rate goes up, but you don't move forward very quickly. It's not a good way to achieve maximum separation from other jumpers when it's time to break off. I understand when you say "don't fight it." There is a proper body position for good tracking, and it requires you to push on the air. As always, you want to be smooth and in control, not spastic and over amping. It's like skiing powder snow. You have to work at it, but it's a fluid medium, so you need to have body awareness so you can use proper technique. Newton's 3rd law. The air can't push on you unless you push on the air. I just like better the "ridding powder" analogy Plus, one (semantic nazi) can argue that no matter how relaxed or tense you are (pushing or no pushing) the air is always going to push on you. But I do get your point!

I'm more curious on how can I improve my tracking skills? Any pointers are highly appreciated! Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Sounds like protection vs skills balance. From time to time I see people snowboarding with the ass pillows, body protection and so on and they are just doing simple rides (no half-pipe or anything out of ordinary). It encourage them to go fast and jump when they are not ready instead of working on controlling speed and skills. http://images.google.com/images?um=1&hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=Je9&q=snowboarding+protection&btnG=Search+Images Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

Great article! Thanks man! 3 things worth mentioning: - can we put this article on wikipedia? - there's a movie with the chuteless jump http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lVvMGLJ0xww maybe we can add them to the article? - how do you feel about posting the article to www.cspa.ca/forum?
