  1. Almost 2 years ago I've busted my tib/fb and got some hardware inside - my inner shine as I call it - that reminds me now and then that the weather changes. Don't get me wrong I'm pretty active with my ankle long boarding, running, etc with no pain - if I do my warm up. My doctur recommended to keep the hardware for life ... but I'm looking on the other side now and I'm wondering if the grass its more green there... I would love to hear anybody who has hands on experience with removing hardware or re-injure while the hardware was inside. Thanks, Jean-Arthur Deda. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

  3. One could argue that the increase in drag on the bigger wing doesn't change the air speed it only decreases the L/D (since we make more drag for the same lift) .... but I don't think it holds water ... if anything the opposite it's true. A higher wing has a higher L/D. To bad, it looked so nice on paper.... Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!
  4. Interesting subject ... I've start wondering how much the "air speed" increases with the change in WL so I've put together some formulas for which I would love to get your thoughts Warning - boring content. In full flight for instance, Lift is perpendicular to the relative wind (it has an angle horizon = AoI + AoA ). Weight is oriented straight down (perpendicular to the horizon) so in other words: L * cos (AoI + AoA) = W (your total weight) and since L = 0.5 * Cl * Density * S * V^2 (lift formula) and W = m * g = WL * S * g (because WL = m / S) we get 0.5 * Cl * Density * S * V^2 * cos (AoI + AoA) = WL * S * g which we can re-write as WL * g = 0.5 * Cl * Density * V^2 * cos (AoI + AoA) The last expression implies that the air speed doesn't depend on the Wing Surface Size, it depends only on the WL. Meaning that a 1:1 230 Spectre will fly with the same air speed (not L/D) as 1:1 97 Spectre (assuming that the airfoil, trimming and AoA doesn't change within canopy class - which might not be true). using the last formula I've computed the new air speed after a downsize from WL1 to WL2 to be V2 = V1 * sqrt (WL2/WL1). As you downsize from WL 0.6 to WL 1.2 your air speed will increase 1.4 times. This is true only if we assume that Cl (AoA mainly) and AoI doesn't change as the WL changes which again might not be true because if the L/D changes as you downsize the AoI its changing too. Does it makes any sense? Edit: I've used mass as a force and forget to multiply it with the gravitational acceleration. Doesn't affect the last expression since g gets reduced. 5. Take a look at THIS. Great article. One thing is worth mention: Those graphs makes sense only if you decrease the airspeed with the stick input (AoA/chamber modification). If you decrease the air speed with the spoilers the GR will always decrease with the decrease in airspeed. I've made one introductory flight and I plan to continue when the season starts again. One thing that didn't make any sense to me was the string placed on the canopy. People told me that is used to indicate the cross wind. I've found it funny because I've thought that the direction of the relative wind is always constant. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!
  6. That is so cool!!! Can you pump it? I like pumping my longboard and I'm thinking to buy next summer a snake board and maybe put brakeboard trucks on ithttp://www.brakeboard.com/ Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!

  12. I've given some more thought as I was cleaning the house while wearing some gloves I don't really see the point of adding more drag to the hands and on the flip side, it might be it harder to reach for the hacky with all that extra drag. The extra fabric might become a problem when you unstow the toggles, when you need to use a hook knife, etc. My advice is to buy regular gloves (like the PD ones) or no gloves at all for the summer. And as it happens, you already are the proud owner of "no gloves at all"

  14. My DZ is small too (Cessnas) and opened all days, in the jumping season that is. You mean you guys don't have tandems ? That is cool!!!! Can I come jump with you guys if I have stinky shoes or you're going to give me attitude? Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!
  15. My pleasure. It might, I guess it depends on the container you have. I have a dolphin and it works perfectly. Try it few times on the ground and form your style. Is nice not to depend on people to give you a pin check. The reserve pin it's another story. Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!
  16. You can find a skydiving version on paragear. http://paragear.com/templates/parachutes.asp?group=148&parent=6&level=2 I'm not a big fan of gloves. Without gloves I can give myselft a pin check right before exit by feeling the position of the closing loop on the pin. With gloves this thing is harder to do, for me at least. Spectre?

Spectre guys: How is spectre opening on a hop&pop? Hop&pot out of a C206 with airspeed around 50mph~90km/h (not full speed). My spectre usually takes 800-1000 feet to open from terminal. I'm trying to squeeze few last jumps before winter and it's a cloudy this weekend, go figure. I might be looking into doing 3500 hop&pops but if it takes 1000+ feet to open I'll pass. I'm hopping that it'll take less altitude from a hop&pop. DSE: did you bought the spectre? Lock, Dock and Two Smoking Barrelrolls!
