And if Clay is around, quantity is a SERIOUS issue......but don't worry, I don't drink, so that's one less to provide for.. Mike
-
Hey! What's wrong with that? Why waste the energy making it a nice, neat looking pack job when it's only gonna be in there for about a second after exit? Mike
-
So was that the all blind load, or is it a rule that you guys are not allowed to check the spot prior to exit? Mike

I'm not going to get sucked into this debate, because neither side will ever change their mind....period.. I will say this, however.. The fact that I was carrying a handgun saved my life a few years ago.. I think you can figure out which side of the argument I'd be on.. And unlike Remi......I'm REALLY gonna stay out of the debate..

Dammit....I broke up with a Jennifer not long ago.. Shit......where does Angela fall on the list? Hmmm.. Mike
-
DOH! I should've put 2 and 2 together when he said after Thanksgiving, and figured out that it was the weekend of the freefly boogie.. I just got off work yesterday, so I go back on the 21......for a week.. Well, maybe I'll get lucky and they won't need me for the first few days.. I doubt it, but I can hope.. Mike

I'm using the same browser you are(IE 5.50.4134.0600, according to the "About Internet Explorer" menu), and my OS is WinME......I can see it just fine.. Also on the AOL browser.. And Netscape.. All work fine for me.. Can you normally see other ads up there? Mike

That's a total BS excuse.. The CASA fuel flows are nothing if the pilots know what the hell they're doing......especially for the extra few minutes it takes to do a long, slow go-around.. Hell, they can even just do a 180 and let the rest of the people out on a downwind jumprun.. Or they can fly a circular jumprun around the perimeter of the DZ.. There are many things that can be done.. Sounds like your DZO(I'm assuming that's who made the policy) is more interested in the bottom line than safety.. Mike

If you find a rig that you are REALLY interested in, talk to the seller about sending the rig to Deland so you could have a rigger inspect it and jump it.. You give the money to the DZ before they give you the rig.. You jump it.. If you like it, you keep it, they send the money to the seller.. If not, you give it back, they ship it to the seller, and you pay the shipping.. Most people won't have a problem doing it through a very well known, reputable DZ/gear store/rigger.. If they do.....well, there may be something wrong to begin with.. Have you looked around the local area? Deland, Titusville, Sebastian, Lake Wales, Z-Hills, etc.....with so many DZ's around, there's a lot of used gear for sale.. They're close enough that you can travel to them, see the gear, inspect it, have a rigger check it out, and jump it.. Myself and a few others here go to some of the DZ's I listed on a regular basis - say what you are looking for, and we'll keep our eyes open.. Mike

If a DZ will let you jump an elliptical at a 1.4 loading with less than 100 jumps.....they are negligent, plain and simple.. If you really are jumping a canopy like that, at that loading, I'd be willing to bet the DZO, S&TA, and most of the Instructors don't know what your jumping, or your experience level.. And the point that somebody made about the Stiletto was not regarding the size of the canopy - but the wing loading.. Your wing loading is higher than the guy that was killed on the Stiletto.. The Cobalt is certainly not as twitchy as a Stiletto, but it's still definitely a high performance canopy.. Don't fool yourself there.. Mike

Yea, I jump at Deland.. Also Titusville, and occasionally Sebastian.. Watch for me.. Black/Maroon freefly suit, rig is black with maroon trim and reserve flap(Mirage) or black with maroon trim and blue reserve flap(Talon).. Either a Sabre2(several different shades of blue) or a Nitro(overall red with black ribs).. Mindwarp helmet, or a side mount camera helmet that says "Follow me to certain death" on the back.. If I'm out there this weekend, it will only be in the evening for some adult beverages.. No jumping for me this weekend, doing some SCUBA diving.. Mike
-
Then again, if people would LOOK OUT THE DOOR before exiting, they will know where they are......and can call a go-around, if necessary.. Ever had the green light go on way early? I have.. Just recently I waited another 15 seconds after the light went on, and just BARELY made the edge of the DZ.. If we had exited on the green light, we would've been WAY short.. Oh, and EVERYBODY on that load landed on the DZ.. This is kind of a sore subject with me....people that don't know how to spot.. Mike

The only thing I have against Riddle is the price.. It's good training.. I work with many guys that went to Riddle.....but in the end, ratings are ratings, and most training is fairly equivalent.. Delta doesn't care where you did your training(unless you were military, that is) - they just care that you have the qualifications.. Only a very small amount of what you learn as a pilot comes from initial flight training.. I went to the school out in Tulsa, finished back in '95.. Ya know.....Spartan School of Narcotics.. http://www.flightoptions.com Hawker 800 Captain Mike

Naw....that's just the Democrats.. Plus.....at least WE show up when we say we will.. DOH! Mike

That's the third problem I've heard with a PISA main in the past month or so......very suprising.. When you find out what the problem with the canopy was, be sure to post it....I'm definitely interested in knowing.. The Stiletto is a well proven design, and as long as you get one without serious opening issues, you'll like it.. The Stiletto recovers from a dive a little too quickly for my taste(release the front riser, and it planes out immediately).. I'm waiting for delivery of a Nitro, myself.. Mike
-
Sounds good to me.. Deland, or maybe even someplace a bit further south if it would get more people out there.. Name the date and place, I'll be there(if you pick a date I'm not stuck working, that is).. Mike
-
Nope, not at all.....it's just that most people that live here in Daytona, while their family lives elsewhere, are here for Riddle.. I get questioned about it all the time......since I'm a pilot and live in Daytona, people automatically assume I go to - or did go to - Riddle.. But, naw......just live here, and happen to fly for a living....that's all.. Mike
-
Yea.......THE dropzone in the PHL area......Cross Keys.. Have fun jumping in the cold.....in the meantime, I'll be living the rough life right here at Deland.. Lemme guess.......Riddle? Mike
-
Well, Dave - with about 70 jumps on a Sabre2 so far, I have yet to have any bad openings.. A few off heading(maybe 4 or 5), yes, but never more than about 45 degrees, and probably due to sloppy packing on my part.. Mike
-
I have a Digitude and an Alti-3.. They are both excellent altimeters, with great customer service backing 'em.. They are both very accurate.. You can't go wrong with either one.. As for the jumpsuits....I use a freefly suit for everything.. I have an RW suit that I bought when I first started jumping, but rarely use it.....it's a fast suit - too fast for recreational RW.. My freefly suit gives me a good fall rate range.. The only thing people whine about when I do RW is that I don't have any grips on it.. Mike
-
I have this really weird superstition......whenever I jump out of an airplane, I make sure I have two canopies.. It's served me well so far.. If it's off a fixed location, however........... Mike
-
I ALWAYS double wrap rubber bands on Spectra, Vectran, or HMA line.....even on locking stows.. With Spectra or Vectran, I use large bands and double wrap.. With HMA, it seems that small bands, double wrapped, will be necessary on the locking stows.. Mike

Glad to hear it.. It's great to have medical people around the DZ, just in case something like this happens.. The EMT from Florida, Steve, took care of one of our local jumpers in DeLand last Wed, too.. Mike
-
Cool man, good choice.. One of my mains is a Sabre2 that I fly at about a 1.5 wing loading.. Sweet openings, builds up lots of speed in front risers, and swoops great.. It's forgiving even at my wing loading - I'm sure it is very forgiving at even lighter loadings.. You won't regret it.. Mike

Good call.. One day, we had to either ride the plane down or get out at 2,000ft due to some low clouds that had moved in during climb.. I was jumping a friends rig.. I had jumped it many times.. This time I forgot about the fact that it had a bungee PC.. It was a very tense few seconds while I was falling with a PC behind me, not pulling the pin.. Luckily, I knew what was happening since I realized it as soon as I pitched.. Canopy was open at 1200.. Mike
