Try setting the dive type to STU or SLO.. They both use reduced rates of descent for audible warnings and data logging.. I don't know the specific requirements, but mine caught 2-3 second hop&pop's(set on the SLO mode) while doing CRW.. The main reason I used it then is because, even if you do a hop&pop at 15k, it will still set off the altitude warning when you get to your highest set warning - even under canopy.. The rest are inhibited.. Mike

There are a few(understatement) shady operators out there that bring Sony cameras made for foreign markets back into the US and sell them on the 'gray market'.. Those cameras have no warranty(the paperwork may say they do, but according to Sony they don't), and many come with very limited accessories, if any.. Looks like you just found one of those dealers.. Please post the name, location, and website of the dealer so that the rest of us know NOT to deal with said company.. I use a couple local shops, and for the larger purchases normally http://www.cameraworld.com in Portland and http://www.bhphotovideo.com in NYC.. There are many other reputable mail order companies, and you will find the prices are pretty consistent among them.. Mike

1. 2,000ft 2. 1800ft 3. 5 way head down with 2 inexperienced freefliers(myself one of 'em) 4. Hook turn too low 5. Skydiving 6. For doing something stupid? Never. Just for injury. I am, however, banned from driving any motorized vehicles(such as a golf cart) at a couple DZ's.. 7. Several years due to injury 8. n/a 9. Self preservation is a very motivating factor. I don't pull low. 3,000-3500 normally, depending on breakoff altitude and formation size. We normally break off freefly dives at 4.5k, so I track and dump at 3 to 3.5. I like flying my canopy, and like to get a good set-up for landing. On big ways, I will plan to pull as low as 2.5k(my canopies open too slow for any lower), and not plan a hook. Mike

Damn.. I keep spare reserve parts on hand for both my rigs(reserve PC, freebag, handles), and it was around $220 for my Talon 2, and I think $240 for my Mirage.. PC and bridle alone were something like $180.. Mike

Well, I always have to fight the tendency of my Hawker to 'run with the wind' - especially when I get near the jet stream......then again, maybe I'm just fighting my tendency to want to see those higher groundspeeds.. Mike

Precision Aerodynamics' statement re: Crossfire
Aviatrr replied to precision's topic in Gear and Rigging
If the original post is, indeed, from George Galloway or an honest representative of Precision, then I believe it it just a way of each manufacturer trying to limit the hit they take to sales.. Think about it - if it were to come out that Precision was producing canopies way out of tolerance, who would want to buy ANYTHING they make? By the same token - if it were to come out that Icarus had a serious design flaw in the Crossfire, who would want to buy anything THEY make? Each company is trying to protect their own interest......who is right? Only time will tell.. Mike -
I, personally, did not lose my confidence after my canopy collapsed......but I CERTAINLY did lose it after I was told that my canopy was "on the list to be issued today" AFTER it collapsed.. I lost all confidence in Icarus at that point, and that's when I decided to get my money back for the canopy and purchase something else.. Just like you - I may decide to go back to Icarus at some point, but not until they prove themselves to me in the future.. I am now waiting on a Cobalt demo canopy.. I wanted a 135, but the wait on the 135 is a while, and the 150 should be shipped to me on Monday - so I decided to go with the 150, at least for a demo.. I'll let ya know what I think after I demo it.. Mike

[butthead voice] Huh, huh, huh....she said pitch a tent.. huh huh [/butthead voice] I'm game for the hotel room......I'd much rather sleep than be kept up all night listening to people have fun when I'm trying to sleep.. Without sleep, I don't function well for more than about 36 hours.. Mike

Hell yea! That'll be a blast.. I'll bring a raft, and Dutchboy has one, too.. It's always too cold for naked guys....but naked chicks don't feel the cold.. Andrea and Lisa volunteer for that position......who else?

That's ok, I guess.....as long as you show them to ME, I don't care about the pilot.. Come on, you know you want to.. Let's see.....another day of skydiving.. Hmm.. You need to come up with us on Thurs - that would solve all the problems! Ya know, you're sounding a little sick that Thurs......that's a nasty cough..

Call Kolla and ask her when you should expect your demo.. She's very cool - she won't mind.. Mike

Chances are they were "targeting" you for practice.. I used to fly through the Gladden and Bagdhad MOA's out west of PHX(near Luke AFB - the primary F16 training ground) all the time, and often saw things like that.. Every now and then they would ask if they could do a practice intercept.. Nothing like seeing an F16 show up on each side of the nose, 100ft away, and see 'em both flip you a middle finger(which I always returned, of course) then breaking high and away.. Mike

I am happy with mine.. I first jumped a friend's Mirage without Unisyn, and it was very comfortable.. Then, when I got my Mirage with Unisyn, it was great until deployment - then it was very uncomfortable(leg straps hurt like hell).. Well, after a couple jumps, I found the perfect place to have the leg straps tightened to and placed - and ever since, it's awesome.. Go for the Unisyn.. Mike

Actually, Icarus states that the problems they have seen are with the canopies made in the US AND New Zealand - but that they have not seen any problems with any canopies from Europe.. All the info that I have gotten from Icarus says that it is a manufacturing tolerance(not line trim) issue, but that the line trim is also very important.. I'm still waiting to find out what the deal is with my canopy that collapsed - I need to call Simon tomorrow to find out.. Mike

What was your loading on them? At a 1.5 wing loading, I can tell you there is definitely a very distinct difference between the two.. I was ALWAYS on rear risers on the Spectre to make it back unless I pulled right over the peas.. On the Sabre2, I don't have to hang on the rear risers nearly as much.. The Spectre had some very nice swoops, and I haven't really gone all out on the Sabre2, but it definitely has some nice swoops too.. The Spectre dived a lot more, and lost a lot more altitude, than I liked in front riser manuevers.. Then again, I'm used to 9 cells - so that's probably the primary difference.. Mike

Who's gonna be there, when are you showing up, and where are you staying(camping, hotel, twin otter)? I should be up there sometime Thurs afternoon, and staying until Sunday.. If he doesn't try to back out of it, Marc(Skymedic) will be riding up there with me..
