The larger the canopy, the longer the extension you will probably need to pack it "easily". On a Hornet 190, I had about a 6" extension - on a 150 it was only about 4....maybe a bit less.. On the 'ole Sabre 150, I didn't use one.. Mike

Well, as for the crew......that is included in the hourly rate, I'm sure....they won't let just anybody fly the things.. As for the jumpers.....we can fill it.. Let's see....in an hour(flight time), we could make 4 loads, easily.. Say 150 people per load, conservatively.. Sounds like $3 per jump ticket.......hmmmmm.....you sure it didn't say eighteen THOUSAND, not eighteen HUNDRED dollars per hour? My jet is 1800 per hour, and it's nowhere near the size of a 727........but, hey, even if it is 18,000 an hour, that means $30 jump tickets.... Set it up man......if you schedule it, they will come.. Congrats on getting back in the sky, Lisa.. I'll be out that way in about 2 weeks, maybe we can get a jump in.. Mike

What, are you gonna start licking an ash tray hoping that it REALLY is like kissing a chick that smokes? Mike

Sounds to me like they didn't mix up some of the things on your rig.....sounds like they sent you somebody elses rig.. There are way too many discrepancies there.. I'd say stick with the soft handle.....much better, IMHO.. Pros - reduced chance of snagging it on something/having an unintentional reserve deployment.. Cons - slightly harder to grip(most people that refuse to jump with one say that the pull will be too hard with a soft handle - but they don't stop to think that they have a soft handle on their cutaway, and a hard cutaway is much more likely than a hard reserve pull), pillow can get tucked under main lift web(check it after donning rig and before exit - at least - and it won't be a problem if your harness is properly sized).. I feel that the benefits far outweigh the drawbacks.. I have soft reserve handles on both of my rigs......and I KNOW from experience that they are not hard to pull when you need 'em.. Mike

It's been hovering between .60 and .75 lately.. I bought it at .25 and dumped it at .76.........made a nice chunk of change on that one.. Mike

What have you seen on cutaway or reserve handles?
Aviatrr replied to LawnDart21's topic in The Bonfire
It has to be embroidered before the handle is built.. After it's built, it's too late - gotta buy another if you want it embroidered.. Mike -
I have had the first warning on my Pro-Track go off(as it is supposed to) while under canopy.. From what I understand, it's supposed to do that in case it is not correctly sensing your fall rate it will at least give you one warning - the highest you have set.. I've used it to set breakoff altitude on CRW jumps.. Mike

At first I thought you were referring to a "human slingshot" in the air.......there's an interesting jump that I've done a few times that kinda resembles that.. Some call it a "whip", some call it "fling the cat".. Mike

Damn, dude......didn't anybody tell you you're supposed to wear the patches, not smoke 'em?! Mike

Same here - but I had to set mine about 5" past factory specs for it to not deflect the tail during aggressive front riser maneuvers.. The factory setting would have been fine had I not used front risers.....but since I do, it was too tight.. Mike

Actually, it would be more like 80-90......but still not much for the cost.. On the bright side, those guys are damn good, and from what I hear they can teach well too.. I've jumped with 2 of the guys that teach there on fun jumps, and they were both damn impressive... Mike

Wow....I knew that HMA had a longer life expectancy than Vectran, but I had no idea it was that long.. It'll take me a few years to get that many jumps on the canopy, especially since I jump two separate rigs.. I'm pretty sure that all the lines except for the brake lines are 346.. The brake lines are much thicker up to the point that it cascades to the 4 individual lines, then they appear to be the same as the rest of the canopys lines.. The only thing I've noticed so far that I don't like is that the rubber bands don't seem to grip the HMA lines as well as Spectra or Vectran......so I'm more careful with my line stows.. Looking forward to the technical info.. Mike

I've read everything of his except his most recent book.....they are definitely awesome.. The Winner and The Simple Truth are my favorites of his.. Mike

I have a Mirage sized for a PD160R and 120ZP main.. The 160 is not a tight fit, either.. Rumor has it that Sunpath is considering doing something similar.. I've tried to talk Sandy into offering such a combination in the Voodoo(and I would be the first to buy one), but no luck.. Mike

That scene goes through my mind EVERY time I read Clay's sig line.......funny as shit!! Mike

Hey, I saw part of your last jump in Titusville on video this past weekend......freaky looking shit.. Mike

It goes away eventually.. Some people take 20 jumps, some take 500.. I guess for me there is really nothing on my mind while at the door except for spotting and flying the exit right.. Remember - jumping out of an airplane is not a natural thing - it WILL take a while for your brain to let you do it without trying to make you think you're doing something wrong.. Mike

Get together with a freeflyer that can fly perfectly stable and straight down the pipe head down.. Have said freeflyer fly stable with an arm out in front of them, and make a fist.. Use the fist as a skyball.. When you can fly all around that person, dock, do transitions and dock again......THEN consider a skyball.. Mike

Short recovery arc as opposed to what? Seems to me that the recovery arc is much longer than a Stiletto, and about the same as a Vengeance at the same loading.. What are you loading your Nitro at? What size is it? I'm on a 135 loaded almost 1.6.. I would prefer that the canopy continue to dive a bit longer after a riser turn(I really like the way the Samurai dives), but overall I'm definitely happy with it.. On a 180 hook the Nitro does not dive very long after a front riser maneuver, but after a 270 or 360 it seems to dive for a decent amount of time - much longer than a Stiletto.. Mike

My first solo(in powered aircraft) was not until mid '94.......at the ripe old age of 18.. Since then I've amassed 5500 hours, 4 type ratings(1 TP, 3 jet), and over 5000 hours of PIC time......and I STILL get that first flight feeling everytime I go up.. God, I love my job.. Mike

As Paul said....do NOT try this without proper approval from the DZO and a competent "ball master"! I thought that jumping with a skyball would be easy, and did it a few times.. Twice I was able to get the skyball in my possesion before deployment, but once the ballmaster had to get it when we passed through 5000.. This is a VERY serious issue.. If you cannot regain control of the skyball before pull time, it could seriously injure or kill somebody on the ground.....or cause serious damage to property on the ground.. If you want to use a skyball, getting approval from your DZO, S&TA, and pilot would be the first thing to do.. Mike

I know a couple people that have gone there, and both were very happy.. Sandy Reid is the man! Ask "riggerrob" what he thinks about the place......he used to work at Rigging Innovations(owned by Sandy Reid, who also owns USAPR).. If you are going to go to a Rigger's training course, that is the one I would recommend.. Mike

Actually, you couldn't be more wrong....that pic was taken after Clay had gone through part of his sex change.. He should be damn near a woman by now.... Hey, wait a second......he already whines like a woman......maybe it's already complete! Mike
