I'm with Clay on this one. Right about the time I was ready to buy my first gear, I happened to chat with Ralph Hatley (Call Ralph) to get some ideas for a starter kit. His first question was if I wanted to grow to be an old skydiver. Because otherwise I'd be a statistic. -

I'm with Remster, except that I do it simpler: Relax in a boxman for about 2 secs. Wave Dump I've had 2 or 3 hard openings and they are due to pulling while not having bled off my forward momentum. But pull time is pull time.

There's a good reason to cut out early - The smart ones skydive! The rest go to meetings.

Don't stare into the ground to guage your height. Look straight ahead instead. When you are about 10-15 feet, flare. It comes with practice. And in order to practice, you need to be safe.

How many times do you look at your altimeter during a jump?

I don't keep count. I look at it anytime I need to know how high I am. In the plane, exit, freefall, canopy, all the time. Even with my audible. -

I think that's the real problem. And it can happen on any canopy with any pack job. You need to bleed off the momentum before pulling. This usually happens to me when I don't have enough time after tracking, and pull time is pull time.
