  1. Skydive City in Z-Hills would be my choice with Sebastian a close second. Both are great DZ's. I think Skydive City is busier so you may be able to get through the program quicker especially of you are jumping during the week.
  2. Yes...here is what is says in Skydiving magazine: As of mid-November, the Starcrest Awards Program was struggling to recover control of it's website. Apparently the domain name was redirected to a search engine site. "I have no idea how long we will be down," program administrator Bill Newell said, but scr-awards.com may be up again by the time this magazine reaches its readers. ...if you go to http://www.scr-awards.com/ right now there is a blond skydiver chick...I don't recognize the rig though, and it appears to be missing a chest strap.
  3. We are actually just about middle of the pack now! Massachusetts' State/Local Tax Burden Slightly Below Average Estimated at 9.5% of income, Massachusetts' state/local tax burden percentage ranks 23rd nationally, just below the national average of 9.7%. Massachusetts taxpayers pay $5,377 per capita in state and local taxes. Massachusetts has dropped 17 places in the rankings since 1977 by imposing a property tax limitation and keeping a lid on its personal income tax rate, living down its "Taxachusetts" nickname.
  4. $249 is only $25 more than what many DZ's charge for a tandem....they definitely didn't "take" you for $1,000. Perhaps they charged extra for altitude you did not get so the "take" amount was probably $100 total ($25 X the 4 jumps). Did the $249 include the video? If so you got a great deal!!! If not....how much did you pay for the video. Props for not throwing the DZ under the bus before hearing their response. Hope you enjoyed your jumps!
  5. I just PM'd the OP asking him to come back to this thread and fill us in on the 411 about his jump. It would be nice to know where the heck he did the tandem....
  6. Skydive Santa Barbara? Did you pay $299 or $199? How many seconds did you get of free-fall? (time it from your video from the second you jumped until the time the canopy opens). If you paid for a high altitude jump, and have evidence to show that perhaps you didn't get it, I would call he DZ and ask them if they could explain. It is possible (although not likely) that there was a mix-up between the manifest staff and the pilot....I doubt it but perhaps there was an honest mistake. If so you should get the $100 back.
  7. If you go to the gym you are probably more than fit for most, if not all, skydiving activities. Concentrate on core muscles and you will be doing yourself a big favor. You will have no problems at all with the toggles.....Tandems are indeed a different beast than regular canopies.
  8. Probably a Nigerian scammer. Google that e-mail address.....it boggles the mind about how many message boards "she" has responded to. You have to click "repeat the search with the omitted results included" to show all the posts....because "she" has responded with the exact same test on most of the post the majority of them are omitted.
  9. I have done 5 or 6 balloon jumps (all different locations) and all have been between 5,000 and 7,000. 5,500 seems to be the norm.
  10. Jeff Nebelkopf was at Pepperell today and said he is expecting quite a few. Last year we had about 15 I think. I am going to try and make it but there are so many events this winter I need to decide which ones to go to. Clewiston was a blast last year though......the WS helicopter jump was kick-ass!
  11. God damn man! We almost had Douglas Splatted Eagle instead of Douglas Spotted Eagle!
  12. Nice. That is why it is much better to say "can you give me a gear check" than "can you check my pin". Finding thinks like mis-routed chest straps, as you found out, could save your life. At 8,000 on the way up I found the same thing on someone and he had not even asked for a gear or pin check
  13. We received an e-mail today from the organizers asking not to post the pic yet. The "grid" shot that was sent was very impressive.....by my count 65 people are 50%+ in their "box" with a large percentage of those almost completely in it. The remaining 6 are between 10-50% in their box. Pretty fucking awesome that the 12'th and 13'th rows have 11 of 12 flyers completely in their box.....awesome flying. Great organizing, dirt diving, and planning allowed this to come together. Happy Thanksgiving.....I am thankful for being part of this flock!
  14. Fly from any U.S. city to San Juan and then it is an hour or so drive to Arecibo. Here is some more info: http://www.xtremedivers.com/boogie.shtml
  15. I think I will get this one too seeing I found this on the USPA stpre website: Sorry, USPA will not be offering a 2009 Skydive Calendar. Please check back next year! ...anyone know if it was just a money issue that USPA did not publish one this year?
  16. It was a 35 way "diamond"...if Jeff had been born in 1970 it would have been a 36 way ;-) In the second pic Scotty flew in at break-off to make it a 36 way.
  17. Doug, get to Z-Hills and get some wingsuit jumps in. Chuck Blue has a ton of suits if you don't have one yet. Buy a suit and join the flock next summer!
  18. Don't you guys think it was kind of a toungue-in-cheek letter? I mean come on: "They bring us up and bring us down. They once even served us food" "so you look like big air mattresses or the Pokemon balloons they sell at parades" "have hit things with my sturdy American automobile at 20 miles per hour, and I have dented it, and I am not anywhere near as sturdy as it is." ....funny stuff. The guy (who by the way said "It seems to be the next big variation on skydiving") wrote a humor piece.....no need to get yer panties in a wad.
  19. I saw it is Elsinore as well.....when I got back to my hotel room after the first day of the 71 way attempts I turned on the TV and it was on. For a second I thought we were getting a little PR until I realized it was a commercial! It looked like the desert....maybe Eloy? Cool commercial....hope I see it again (not on YouTube yet)
  20. spot on Andreea, I think that is exactly how big flocks should be judged.
  21. ...and another in Daily Star: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/news/view/58560/The-day-the-world-went-record-crazy/ Underneath the picture of the "Largest Gathering Of People Wearing Underpants" there is this little gem: DIVE BUMS SKY divers carried out the largest V-formation jump ever over Lake Elsinore in California. Seventy-one daredevils jumped from four different planes and took just seven seconds to get into position. Highly impressive. ....damn, it sure seemed like it took us longer than 7 secs to build the formation! We must have kicked ass!
  22. Jeff, so we can all better remember these epic flocks can someone please post a diagram of the completed formation with everyone's name, where they are from and what suit they were flying? That would be pretty cool.
