  1. It is a poor investment for society to burden their youth with getting an education and spending their first 10 years of working to pay it off. Just looking for responsibility - which believe it or not, does not generally happen when the $$ is the bottom lineQuote Sure it happens. The best way to vote is with your dollars. A lot of folks stop buying at WalMart when they get bad press for employee practices, etc. People also quit those jobs and get better ones, if they can. Believe me, the BoD takes note. TK, you are an economic entity. You charge for your time and skill. Would you be willing to cut your repack fee in half for a year to promote our general welfare? Your DZ is also an economic entity. Can I come jump for free? I mean, once you cover your costs, there's really no need to make a profit and put more money in your pocket, is there? Or, could it be that you work hard to make your DZ more exciting, more attractive, more fun, more safe, and all that effort deserves the profit it makes? When it comes to product or service, you have price, availability, and quality. Pick two. That's all you get. Healthcare is no different. The best way to ration it is with the dollars of individuals making an informed choice in a free market. Yes, when you promote "from each according to their ability, to each according to their need" you sound like a communist. As a matter of fact, just like Karl Marx himself. God bless his misguided soul. And Bill - "promote" does not equal provide. Another question. TK. If you break your leg jumping, would you come to me with a gun in your hand, or send someone else, point it at me and force me to pay Dr. Mudd? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  2. Hmmm. I disagree pretty much all year 'round. But, I know what you mean. Trouble for me is, there is no candidate for me to disagree with. That is, for me to agree with so I can disagree with you ... with. Education is not a right, nor is healthcare, nor food. And yes, I know what communism is, and it is my opinion that you think like a communist. Yeah, you and I are on total opposite ends of the geo-political-universe. I prefer to be free to take care of my family and my community through my church, rather than be forced to provide "charity" at gunpoint by a faceless government. My solution rewards success, reliance on family, and brings people closer to God. The feds want you to rely on them more than family or God. I am afraid you are right about November. Myself, Mike, Scooby, we may become the minority. Ben Franklin: "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety." I can't find the exact quote, but it goes something like "When the people find that they can vote themselves large portions of the public treasure, the end of the Union is near." That's what most politicians, and most definately Obama, are leading us toward. More "safety", less freedom. Just remember that freedom isn't free. For Americans, it has been paid for in blood before, and may have to be yet again. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  3. Sure you can. There are different hospitals, and different insurance plans. Our healthcare system is not broken, except to the extent that the federal and state governments already dictate too much. It's not perfect, it's not part of the communist Utopia. Sure they do. You just don't like it. The "solution" is to keep the Feds as far away from it as possible. Why should I pay for your healthcare? Why should someone else pay for mine? Healthcare is another consumer service, not a "right" and should be available on the open market like anything else. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  4. A major victory for those of us who still believe in the United States Constitution. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  5. Here's just a couple of reasons I fear a federal government run by the current flock of democrats. In their own words they tell it far better than I can. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KN6s1KVFBNg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpSDBu35K-8 The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  6. Well said, a very concise way to put it. That's the most accurate post I've seen on SC. In these critical times, though, if the dems can push through their entire agenda unchecked, we may be in for more than just an incremental movement. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  7. Yes, I was, but I do forsee a possibility where we create such a large, inefficient federal government that taxes and restricts our economy to the point that it totally collapses. I don't believe that would be the fault of just one of the parties. The Republicans squandered their political capital and haven't reduced the size of the beast at all. Thanks for your question. I appreciate your approach to debate. I'm going to try and answer it soon. For now I must get back to tending the bar-b-q. Enjoy your Memorial Day! On THAT topic, here's a salute to my old college friend, Capt Steve Phillis. Shot down and killed over Kuwait on 15 February, 1991, in an A-10, while flying cover for his downed wingman. Blue skies Syph, we miss ya. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  8. Weak. To answer your PA's, I'm not in a right wing militia. If being a gun owner and a conservative implies that to you, ok, but I think it is an unreasonable and inflamatory assumption. But you know that. The "stockpiling food and ammunition" comment was half humor. My level of intelligence fluctuates and is highly suspect most of the time. You hit that one on the head, but for the wrong reason. Not in a right wing militia. Why do you reference a race war? This ain't about race, sweetie. It's about a congress with a socialist agenda unchecked by a socialist president. I can list several people much more qualified to be president than any of the three running. Herman Cain, Condoleeza Rice, Gen Colin Powell. All black. So, you guys know why I dislike the idea of the Obama presidency. Back to Tbrown's question. What do you think? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  9. Reasonable. But so obvious and devoid of wit! C'mon - you Obamanites can do better. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  10. Rather than make a post which is totally devoid of intellect or wit, why don't you answer the question of the thread? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  11. Shootin' up commies and getting to camp out in the Rockies for several months with Lea Thompson and Jennifer Grey! It doesn't get any better than that! The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  12. McCain didn't attend Hagee's church for 20 years, if at all. Hagee certainly isn't McCain's "preacher" as much as Wright is Obama's. Obama didn't "learn" about Wright's comments. Wright is his pastor, and "mentor" in Obama's own words. He's known, and agreed with it all along. You can't equate the two situations. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  13. We take one more huge step closer to becoming the United Socialist States Republic. Half the country is in love with that idea. The rest of us are stockpiling food and ammunition. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  14. Our cold war movies must have been better than your cold war movies. We won! The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  15. Looks like their lawmakers are just as delusional and paranoid as ours. BTW, Red Dawn was one of the greates movies ever made! And Billy - you are right on. What a bunch of wussies. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  16. Anybody know where I can get one of those talking houses? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  17. I thought you were making a joke. I think sometimes around here we take this stuff too seriously. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  18. >>Is is "socialist" if you take the tax money from the middle class and funnel it upward to the wealthiest of the wealthy? That's certainly not the principal that our country was founded upon but it's what we have now. How is this being done? Is Oprah or Bill Gates getting a welfare check that I don't know about? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  19. Herman Cain is a conservative who has authored several books, is a wonderful speaker, and has served as CEO of some large companies, and even headed up one of the Federal Reserve Banks. He's a man of great intellect and courage. He also has black skin. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  20. Marxist is a strong word, but I still use it. Socialist is definitely an accurate word. If it is proven (and it is) that revenue decreases when CG rate is raised, and the only reason he would raise it is to "punish" someone for knowing how to make money - that is a Marxist position in my mind, and definitely not a principal our country was founded on. Most likely though - he won't raise capital gains - he was only pandering to an increasingly large block of voters who suffer from wealth envy. Re Imus, he said "he wouldn't be working for me." Well, at that time, his wonderful reverand was. I won't convince you, you certainly won't convince me. I am a man without a candidate. I don't trust Mr. O and I abhor his politics. But - this discussion is better than one centered on his skin. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  21. What we're dealing with here in this thread is more bigotry than racism. If someone doesn't vote for Obama because he's black, that's bigotry. If someone says they'll vote for him because it's time we had a black president - that's bigotry, because it means they're not voting for the other two because they're not black. No better, and certainly an unwise way to make the decision in these critical times. Foreign policy, economic policy, ethical standards, statesmanship. That's what we should focus on. Unfortunately, bigots abound, on both sides of the race coin. I personally wish Herman Cain would run for president. He'd beat the living snot out of these three clowns. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  22. No, I didn't, for which I owe an apology. Even in this bastion of journalistic accuracy. But - it was sent to me by a typical white person. I don't believe Obama is a racist. Racist is usually defined as one who believes their race is superior to all or another race. Obama is an opportunist, and he uses racial issues in what ever way suits the political moment. I think he is a typical hypocritical politician, but one with a black militant agenda that will only divide the country, not unite it. Here are some links where he speaks his own Marxist / hypocritical words. These reasons, and others, are why I don't want him to be president. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioYrNYsNUfY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpSDBu35K-8 The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  23. From Dreams of My Father: "I ceased to advertise my mother's race at the age of 12 or 13, when I began to suspect that by doing so I was ingratiating myself to whites." From Dreams of My Father : "I found a solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against my mothers race." The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  24. Doesn't sound much different from: … draw them out of their caves and kill em. Kill em all. OK, point well made, but there is one, not so subtle differnce. I believe in live and let live. The peaceful Muslims - they get to live. The ones who attack us or our troops? Kill em. Kill em all. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
  25. I've faced their bullets. Not in this war but the first one. War is far from a perfect little shooting gallery. Soldiers, like everyone else, are subject to lapses in judgement. I think most people, even your rank and file Iraqi, understand that. By the way - these extremists don't simply act out of revenge. If you read their writings they want to destroy us simply because we exist. I disagree with your assesment of the situation. I jump with a lot of active military and keep in touch with old service buddies who are now making General rank. They deal with these people every day, and the real story is that our presence there is appreciated and welcomed by most. I really don't know if the Iraqi's are able to govern themselves without a dictator, but they need to step up to the plate - soon. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
