Hmm, while I agree that deficit spending and debt are bad, the economic effects are that deficit spending stimulates the economy. Rising debt crowds out private investment and manifests itself in higher interest rates, which in the long term will depress the economy. That hasn't happened. The higher interest rates are the result of problems in the mortgage industry and the Fed's fear of inflation. The Air Force and our Guard and Reserve components who have the air defense tasking have always been focused on thwarting an attack from outside the US. Identifying an attack that originated within the US, using comercial airliners, was not part of the military mission. Yes, I understand the difference between surface area and volume, that's why I asked the question. What you're saying validates the question. If the ice is thicker at the poles, and it is, then you can lose say, 20% of the surface area at the southern edges, and be losing only a small percentage of the total volume.
