Applause, Bill. I don't think that works for all of the country, but you are doing your part. And you can be CP #2. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Come on Bill, she said it first. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Switch to alternatives. SciAm has a good article on how we could switch to solar and have it supply 69 percent of the U.S.’s electricity and 35 percent of its total energy by 2050. That would eliminate foreign imports completely and greatly stretch our remaining oil supplies. Obviously not cost effective for most of the country or some capitalist pig (like myself) would be trying to make money by doing it. I bike to work, and often get around on an electric bicycle that I built. I generate my own power from a solar array. I generate about twice what I use in my house and donate the rest to the grid. Our hot water is heated by a solar collector. We use recycled water to irrigate our trees and garden. We grow about 10% of our food and get about 30% from a local organic farm. Fantastic, if we could all live in southern California. BTW how big is the solar array, and what was are the aquisition and maintenance costs? How do you generate the income to be able to aford to generate power in this manner? When I do drive I use a Prius that I run on ethanol (E50.) We get 45-48mpg with it.In a new study, David Tilman, a professor of ecology at the University of Minnesota, calculates the amount of carbon-dioxide that is released into the atmosphere by the production of grain for ethanol use. He calculates that “it will take 93 years for the carbon losses from plowing one acre of healthy grassland to equal the carbon savings from corn-based ethanol produced on that land.” In other words, don’t expect ethanol to have any positive impact before the theorized global warming catastrophe has already happened At Otay, I installed an independent solar power system. It has a propane generator that they use for running the air conditioners etc. The solar power component runs the DZ the rest of the time and saves them about 10 gallons of propane a week. I've badgered people at my company to install solar, and as a result of that badgering (and the badgering of many other people) they recently installed half a megawatt of solar power on their main campus. They now have Gold-LEED certification. I'm confused a bit about campus/company. Where is this specifically? What company/university? Again, at what cost vs expected return? At work I am currently working on energy harvesting, basically using environmental energy (sound, light, motion, vibration etc) to keep portable devices charged so they do not need to be plugged in. My watch works like this. Is there another comercially viable product out there that I'm not aware of? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

OK, let me ignore the typical liberal response of "when you don't have an argument start name-calling." I'll respond to your post. Plus the savings from the other efforts.. are applied to having fun.. its all about the economics for me. So what you're saying is, as long as you are maintaining the status quo (global warming) - a few more CFC bulbs = a bigger boat or more skydives, it makes you feel better, though, AND you will get the new world you richly deserve... and a whole lot less land to pollute and breed your misguided offspring in Oh, and try not to end a sentence with a preposition. No television. Really? ok good for you. I tend to walk instead of drive. But when you do drive, what do you drive? I use a laptop with an energy efficient dual core processor instead of a desktop computer. Additionally, I keep the Bluetooth and WiFi turned off unless I actually need them Hey great! IF EVERYONE in the world did THIS one, it would amount to .0000000000000000000000000001 degrees (Celcius) over the next 27 millenium. And I'm guessing you still ride a King Air to altitude. (although your profile is so incomplete, you might not even be a skydiver) Next please. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Hmm lets see... All CFC bulbs in the house.. The CFC's contain mercury - you are screwing the planet. Thermostat turend down to 65 degrees in the house( electric furnace) but I do build a nice little fire in the evenings in my wood fireplace. The fire emits CO2 - you are screwing the planet. Diesel Beetle that gets 45 MPG around town for commuting.. ok, but if you are really serious you would ride a bike. You are screwing the planet. All the appliances are new and green models. Green is a terrible color, esp. for a kitchen. Water heater has its little blankie to maintain temps. If you were really serious you'd take cold showers. My house has good winterization and doors are nicely sealed. All the walls are insulated.. and there is good insulation in the roof/cieling. Good, but I'm sure you could live in a smaller house. That is my way of offsetting my nice little toys like my 25' cabin cruiser that gets 1.5 MPG at 35 MPH that I use to catch salmon. Obviously you are not serious about countering global warming, or this would have been given up for a rowboat long ago. Also, I assume you are still skydiving. This will NOT be approved by the New World Government. Please, someone who is SERIOUS about climate change. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

OK, let's take the thread in a slightly different direction. Let's assume that EVERY US citizen has pulled their head out and Let's say EVERY scientist agrees the climate is warming, and EVERY scientist agrees that it's the result of human habitation. What do we do about it? What are YOU doing about it? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

An editorial like this might cost you your job

So, Billy, lemme see if I got this. Cheney grabbed Spitzer's penis and placed it in that pro's vagina? Is that what happened? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer. -
And/or, maybe you voted for this guy, who just can't seem to remember which side of an issue he was on yesterday. My favorite is the assault weapons ban. He loved it, he voted for it, he brags about his involvement, and HE OWNS A CHINESE AK-47! Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, over. http://www.sportsmenforkerry.com/flipflop.htm The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Wright & Obama: when does "angry" become "hateful"?
TankBuster replied to likearock's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't see the equivalency. Hagee endorsed McCain for his pro Israel and pro life stance. McCain has accepted, but emphasized he doesn't agree with all that Hagee stands for. I hope he will specify, he may have already. unlike Obama, McCain's statement is credible -he hasn't supported Hagee with money and church attendance for 20 years. Nerdgirl is right on. Disagree with policy all you want, but I think it's a little juvenile to call the president a moron. He's worth quite a bit of humor at times, but he's no moron. And the other thing I don't get is how all of the frustration and anger and insecurity gets targeted at one person. He gets blamed for everything from the economy to Katrina. A lot of conservatives did that to Slick Willie. To me, that's moronic. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Wright & Obama: when does "angry" become "hateful"?
TankBuster replied to likearock's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't listen to Jerry Falwell or Pat Robertson, so like I said, I've never heard a man of the cloth speak like that to his congregation. And it IS an issue. Either Obama condones and participates in the politics of division, or he doesn't have the balls to stand up to it. Either way, I don't want him in the oval office. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer. -
I'm sure you did. Most of the country, however, felt differently. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:ElectoralCollege2004.svg#file The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Wright & Obama: when does "angry" become "hateful"?
TankBuster replied to likearock's topic in Speakers Corner
That's because people like Wright, Sharpton, and Jackson continually take the spotlight as their cultural leaders. They capitalize politically and financially on the hate and division, and the media loves it - because bad news sells. And Obama, unfortunately, is either of the same mold, or didn't have the balls to rebuke his "pastor". If folks like Bill Cosby, Herman Cain, Condoleeza Rice and Alan Keyes - could get more of the spotlight, I believe they could make a difference. But you know what they get called when they talk about personal responsibility and family values. I put "pastor" in quotes for a reason. I've never heard any man of the cloth use such reprehensible speech. In my opinion he is merely a hateful megalomaniac dressed as a preacher. And for Obama to deny knowledge of that is ludicrous. Yeah, those American people. They're so stupid. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Just a thought - I wonder if Mayor Adrian Fenty gets to walk around DC with an armed bodyguard? I'll answer it. Yes, he does. Hmmm. Does that strike anyone as odd? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Quote[The SCOTUS will probably find that there is an individual right subject to reasonable limitations placed on them by the government. the court will then find that the outright banning of all private possession of a handguns is "overbroad."Quote I so hope you are correct. I don't see how the court could find any other way. Quote The district of Columbia, and other localities, would then be free to draft a statute that provides exceptions to the ban, but said exceptions being incapable of compliance for the general population, thus being not a facial ban, but a ban nonetheless. Quote And then more money will have to be wasted to overturn that one. Freedom sure isn't free. You just shouldn't have to fight your own countrymen for it. Hello Wendy. I thought for sure I was a gun nut, but not based on those qualifications. How would you characterize someone who just wants to be able to carry or keep a weapon in their home in DC (or whatever major city) just in case someone does threaten their life - or that of their family? Can I at least be a gun lunatic? Is there room for someone who just wants #2 left alone? The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Can someone please define for me the term "gun nut?" The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.

Racism & Obama's Speech on March 18th, 2008
TankBuster replied to PLFXpert's topic in Speakers Corner
He did hit the issue head on today, but he lacks credibility. If he truly believed in repairing racial divides and denouncing hate speech, he should have started 20 years ago. If you are going to be CINC, you must have the courage to stand up be counted from DAY ONE. He didn't- he was beyond passive, he was complicit. Fact is, he needed the votes from southside Chicago to win his election to the Illinois state senate, and being a part of that congregation probably helped him get elected to the US Senate. Ahhhhh, but now that the entire country is looking at him, his support of rev Wright is a political liability, and he did a poor job of spinning it. I don't buy it. He is a masterful orator, but he can't mezmerize all of us. The content of his speech - as well as the content of his character - is lacking. The forecast is mostly sunny with occasional beer.
