In my not so humble opinion, the PLF is obsolete. The slide landing is, I think, a better and more safe alternative. I have had several situations where I slid. I actually said that to someone. She looked at me as if I was evil itself. I said more or less the same thing to an inDUHvidual who called us out after her BIRD was "stuck" in a tree. Have you noticed this? How many in your station or company will to jump or in some cases, even fly? The reason I ask is that my fellow firefighters here in Baltimore County seem to have a serious contradiction in their bravery. They (we) will, without hesitation, respond through unpredictable and very dangerous vehicle traffic, to get to a scene where a hazard has occurred. They will then, again without hesitation, enter and try to control this scene. Keep in mind that, for example, in the case of a house or building fire, they know nothing about the stability of the structure, the degree of damage and the time frame of how long an operation might be able to be sustained in the hazard area. Yet these same people think skydiving, with its safety standards, planning and rehearsal, is a reckless endeavor. I can't quite reconcile this. What do you think? Yeah, Mike is a very cool guy. I was just at Jump Shack last week. Mike went wqay out of his way to show me, a very rookie rigger, the ins and outs of the Racer. He took the better part of a whole day to do this, hooked me up with a new tool they had been developing and gave me all the copies of the packing instructions. OK, I just got a new Cam Eye 2 via UPS. This was to replace the unit I was using (It didn't survive being dropped from a gear hook). So I start setting it up and discover that they have gone from a blue light to a red/green combination. The problem with this is that I am color-blind and can't differentiate between red a green lights. Is there a way to swap out the LED from the old unit or am I stuck with this? There is NOTHING in the world that is worse than being stuck i job you hate. I've been in that position for the better part of ten years now. The first time I heard the term "golden handcuffs", I was sure they were referring to me. Anyway, go back to school. But first, do some home work. Decide what degree you want (masters, PhD or second bachelors), then look at jobs in that field.
