"use student loans..." hehehehe.....student loans for jumps, student loans for jumpsuit/helmet/etc., student loans for rig....thank god for student loans....

"Take for instance "Behind Enenmy Lines", the pilot lands with a ram air..." haha, funny you say that. I saw that movie last night and was just going to bring that up in here- I kinda got a chuckle when I saw it. Oh well- cool movie anyways....
-
I saw a guy get on a plane with a jumpsuit that his girlfriend made him. Unfortunately, it wasnt quite as in tact when he landed. In fact, it was in pretty bad shape. I'd hate to have to explain that one to her, lol- "Uh, well, the jumpsuit you made me looked really great, until I jumped with it....." Guess it just depends on your sewing ability.... Blue skies, Marshall

Gee, don't I feel RETARDED. lol, I thought it was something they put in there for effect. Oh well.

Yikes, if thats sand that'd be a little scary. Sand has a nice way of destroying things. Anyways...it looks a little more "powdery" than sand. But, I also could also be wrong....
-
Hey all, I'm not sure how to describe this...but how is the "powder" effect created when a main opens up? It looks like someone just sprinkled some kind of powder in the main while packing it, so when it opens it goes everywhere. Looks pretty cool. If I remember right someone (not sure who) does it in Crosswind. Looks like maybe Talcum powder or something? Not really planning on doing it, just wondering what they use. Also, does it have any adverse effect on the canopy? Its the first time I'd ever seen it, so I was just curious.... Blue skies, Marshall

"...also a horse shoe, wouldn't be a horse shoe with the pilot chute out of the pouch..." Correct me if I'm misreading what you're saying (I think I might be...), but thats not true. I think someone already said it, but a horseshoe is where something (the D-bag) is out, but something between there and the P/C is attached to your body/gear in some way. The pilot chute CAN be out of the pouch and you can still have a horseshoe (i.e. P/C or bridle wrapped around wrist/ankle).

Hehehehe....I did the same thing- sold a bunch of last semesters books just this morning and made $126.25 (pathetic considering what i paid for them) which is about $1 shy of 8 jumps worth

"...Mooney M-20..." Mooney!?!?!?!? Nah, just kidding...Mooneys are sweet, if you know a good mechanic.....

"...the guy that owned the airport..." I was referring to the airlines, they're very strict about that sort of thing. Incidentally, the guy I spoke of above was also one of the best PILOTS (read: not instructors) I've ever flown with in my life.

Thats true, Dutchboy, but career instructors are hard to come by when it comes to early flight training. Its one thing to be a career instructor in, say a jet- but I know very few people who do primary (meaning Pvt, Inst., Comm.) flight training because its what they want to do for a living. Granted, there are some, and thats excellent, we need more- but I think its safe to say that the majority of CFI's are doing it to build time. If you do come across a CFI that does it for a living, you might want to take a closer look at why. I once had an instructor who had been doing it for a quite a few years, had a few thousand hours and just didnt give a shit about instructing. Come to find out, he had had some problems (1 DWI and a few other minor traffic violations) and the airlines didnt want him (despite having way more than the minimum req. hours and a B.S. in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle). I guess the moral to all those considering learning to fly is to just be careful on who you choose to teach you to fly. There are plenty of CFI's lurking around out there, so take your time and find a good one. Blue skies, Marshall

I started flying before I started jumping. I used to look at a plane and think to myself, "hmm, that'd be a cool plane to fly..."- now I still think the same thing, but then I think to myself, "I wonder if its possible to jump out of that..." Lately I've been pondering (only half-seriously) trying to build up enough jumps to make skydiving my career and flying charter/flight instructing a side job. Hehehe, you shoulda seen the look on my parents faces after I mentioned that one day when the subject came up. Looked a little like this----> So what if I'm almost done with a $90,000+ education? hehehe....

And another thing... a week or two ago, I was sitting up in the front of the Otter with the pilot- and I sorta got screwed out of a pin check. Make sure if you sit up there, you get someone to check it for you before you get out... Be safe, blue skies! -Marshall

"And I'm starting to think I'm the only person in the world that didn't like The Matrix. Maybe if I understood it, I would've liked it." Nope, dont worry- I didnt care much for the Matrix either. I dont really have one absolute favorite movie though....

Yeah, theres other websites that are totally devoted to skydiving too, but they arent as good as this one...

A young punk with spiked green, purple and orange hair gets on a bus. His face is riddled with piercings and his earrings are big, bright feather-like things. He sits down next to an old man, who just stares at him. Finally, the punk barks at the old man, "What are you looking at you old fart...didnt you ever do anything wild when you were young?" Without missing a beat, the old man replies, "Yeah. Back when I was in the Navy, I got really drunk one night in Singapore, and had sex with a parrot. I thought maybe you were my son."

I'd have to agree with Zennie- a BASE jumping site would be pretty sweet....

Yep...I jump at DeLand a lot too. Black (w/ some red) freefly suit, red Z1....lately a gray Javelin. Look for me out there sometime...I'll be out there quite a bit probaby between now and the 13th- gotta get some jumps in before I go up to Siberia (western NY) for Christmas. Blue skies, Marshall
-
Eh...nobody really consistently... Did a few jumps with Chris Ash a few weeks ago- I played his "student"...he's working on his AFF-I. Other than that, usually other people from Riddle. I havent been out there in a couple weeks...been busy flying, but I am going to go out there either this week, or next, or maybe both and get a bunch of jumps in before I go home to NY for christmas. Look for me out there- Tall, skinny, short brown hair and a mostly black with some red freefly suit and a red Z1- lately the rig I've been jumping is a gray Javelin with a Sabre 190 (green, yellow and blue canopy). I'm sure we'll run into each other out there sometime- let me know next time you're gonna be jumping... Blue skies, Marshall
-
Geez....I thought you were talking about me for a second there...haha. Seriously though, I think I might know him- definitely if I saw him- I go to Riddle and jump at DeLand all the time. Last name doesnt sound too familiar, but I've been known to forget those...

Is the size of the container based more on height or weight? I'm looking at a used rig, and it says fits someone from 5'8 - 6'2 and 175 - 215 pounds or something like that. I'm 6'1, but less than 175 (tall and skinny), so I'm just wondering if that would be too big, or would it be OK because I'm tall? Any help would be great, thanks!!! -Marshall

"There is a palatble sense of desperation in the air. The girlz come in looking to drink with their friends, and in their wake, a parade of slobbering geeks with one hand on their crotches, and the other on their wallets." That describes every club in Daytona Beach to a tee. Wouldnt you think it'd be just the opposite?
