  1. The thing is sort of a slider/Sail in the shape of a bananna. It is attached with 4 rapide links to the top of the risers in a fixed position. It is supposed to act like a small parachute over your head until the main is totally inflated!!! Can you say "broken Neck or strangulation??!!! 2. I,ve seen it and it is! That is going to kill someone! He was at the PIA and it was a total joke! MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  3. I would have to say Tom Piras, Jack Jefferies, and Rickster Powell. They were the first ones To swoop as far as I know around 1989 -1990. The "ditch" in Deland was the place. They were flying the first Sabres with John Leblanc. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  4. Blindbrick, Please call me at the shop today! 864-429-8428 Cheers, MEL Skyworks Parachute Service "The Icarus Service Center" Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  5. Blindbrink, Do you have Spectra? (which is an option on the Safire 2) Is is very possible that the lines have shrunk out of tolerance in twenty jumps if the jumps were with fast, hard openings. It really depends on how fast and hard. Let' say the heat generated during a normal deployment is 100 degrees...if the heat genereated during your openings is five times the normal heat index (500 degrees) the shrinkage could be equal to as much as 100 jumps. The heat generated during a fast opening compared to a normal opening can cause the lines to shink as if they had many, many jumps on them. Spectra can look like new and not be in tolerance. We need to look at that canopy of yours. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service "The Icarus Service Center" Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  6. Actually It (Crossfire 2) only has 6 "D" lines total, 3 on each side. You can call me with the Serial Number and I can also give you further Info. BS, MEL Skyworks Parachute Service "The Icarus Service Center" Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  7. Actually 3/16, 1/4, 1/2, 5/8, and 3/4 are all used. 1/2 and above are usually found on Tandem and Military Canopies. 3/16 and 1/4 are by far the most common. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service "The Icarus Service Center" Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  8. Kevin, You are right! I should have said bartack. I was meaning it as a zigzag type stitch. Anyway....back to work while it's raining. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  9. Shlomo, You must have missed the previous post.. The PD stab pattern is a 72 stitch -308 Zig-Zag- Center Start-Center Stop. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  10. Chris, The sentence I wrote should have read "one of the Cheapest"... I was referring to the bigger places like manufacturers. Yes,you can find cheaper but it usally is from a "Bare Bones" loft. I would like to know who is cheaper and for what service. Blue ones, MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  11. Xdoctor, Jump Shack' prices are usally the cheapest in Deland. By my standards at today's rates: Remove the Cypres for Shipping $10.00 Shipping and insurance To SSK $15.00 4 Year Check up w/ Batteries $229.00 Return S/H with Insurance $15.00 Re-install Cypress $10.00 Repack Reserve $50.00 Patch Main Canopy $35.00 (small patch) That totals to #364.00 That is pretty close to the amount that you were charged. I do not think that is unreasonable! And if they shipped it to you it would be more. I would call Nancy at Jumpshack and talk to her on Monday about the payment thing. Also the banks usally will keep records on CC transactions for quite some time. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  12. Mark, Yes to all the questions. The PD "stab" stitch is a 72 stitch,308 type, center start-center stop. It is included in the chip(pattern 35) Pattern 36 is a 28 stitch type used at the nose tapes. You can also use pattern #12 already on your machine @ X=135% and Y=110%. I have 2 chips left if you need one. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  13. It is actually 2 1/4 inches on his canopy (90 Velo).I made him change it when we put a Technora line set on last year. The Veloicity Canopies are set too shallow and this causes a couple of different problems. I noticed the problem on a video of a cutaway (Gary Harbid Velo 84, It is on this site somewhere). He had claimed that he had a toggle fire. I slowed it down frame by frame and found it not to be true. It does look that way at first. If you watch the video, watch how the right side pressurizes first and then flies around the left side before it inflates and starts flying like the right did.The deeper brake setting keeps the canopy more stable while it is pressurizing. The bottom line is that when you put the velo's in a deeper setting, the spin-ups basically go away. When we reline Velo's, the brake setting is adjusted when you get it back. 14. Mark, What type of Bartack do you have? I have Chips already made up for the Juki 1900HS series. Also, the bartack is made up as follows: 1. The straight stich is called the running stitch. 2. The Zig-Zag is called the covering stitch. 3. The last 3 stitches are called the tying stitch(sometimes called the staying stitch). The most common is the 42 stitch(center start, center stop) with 7 running,32 covering, and 3 tying. The second most common 42 stitch is 11 running, 28 covering and 3 tying. This one is the standard tack that came on the Singer 269W11. The first one is better for line work because it has less running stitches and you can stretch it out a little on the length. 15. Hi, The Safire 2 was never designed to have dacron lines installed! It can be done but the canopy will not fly correctly with the current line trim. If you are having brutal openings on a Safire 2 , something is very wrong. It could be the canopy, packing or deployment problems. Please contact me at the shop(864-429-8428) and we will look at the canopy. Thanks, MEL The Icarus Service Center Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  16. Bodkin or "T" Bodkin? I think MoJo got .... did he not? MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  17. Invert the canopy on the floor. Use weights to anchor the nose and tail taught. With the stab lying flat, pull the line taught and measure up 1/2" from the edge of the stab and mark the line. about all PD canopies have 1/2" of slack in the stabs. 19. Use only "B" thread and a #16 needle. "E"thread is too thick for the smaller diameter line. It will prone to break in areas sewn with "E" thread. No more than 50% of the width. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com

  21. I was know what HMA is, I was the first to have CSR spin some up for me almost three years ago. It is the second time I have seen HMA 2 refered to. (no such animal....!!!!) MEL edited for SP Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  22. Rob, What in the world is HMA 2. I have never heard of it??? Also Vectran is still fashionable. We still put 500 + jumps on line sets even in the desert. HMA has been put on tandems.. Strong is looking at it now. MEL Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  23. Gus, You need to use lighter fluid (naptha). MEL edited to include the chemical name. Skyworks Parachute Service, LLC www.Skyworksparachuteservice.com
  24. Not entirely true. Prototypes of the canopy as well as early production versions from the New Zealand designer exhibited the same flaw. *** It is very true... The "flaw" that you speak off is not matching the "match marks" when sewn. There where 29 canopies included in the SB from NZ that where included as preventive measures only. The rest are not.
