  1. You can only do that with Tandems as one DZO would. Rag out the main then put it in as a reserve. Make sure your TI's dont find out. More towards your retirement fund
  2. 2478 on a Sabre I 1970 on a Manta 1300 ona Comet 300 1200 ona Unit 800 on Para -plane {no Syabilizers 450 0n PC's
  3. In the mid 70's the slider was stowed on the attaching point of your "C" line. Later I once had a three loop stow on my center tail the middle one heid the slider the right and left held the excess steering lines in place .Worked great for many years. That was side packing days, before pro packs let everything just hang Dont forget Strato-Stars had the thru canopy reefing slider and the jesus cord on the front riser to haul it down if needed
  4. I had 2478 on my Sabre 210 .now 1230 on mySabreII 210 plus 450 on a 190. I think I like them it seems. Get PD's lower steering line length on line . I have just replaced them a few times and got a lot more out of the line sets.I start get snivelly openings about 600 jumps . The line from the cascade to the break loop has been up to 2.5 inches shrunken. new lines good as new.But you have new lines and should be goo d for 600 more easy
  5. You got that right .It is an easy basis for a thermometer .Anywhere any time. Also if there wasnt water close you wouldnt be there for long. Fahrenheit has the same basis as Grandpa saying its as cold as the winter of 1958 or hot as the family reunion of 46 in Alabama.
  6. We started doing static line U-206 jumps in 1969. We had them feet out side forward as much as possible. Both hand on the bottom of the door frame. They would then try to raise themselves slightly pushing harder with their right hand to turn into the prop blast while raising both arms for an arch. It worked great since. A P-206 has a very short distance from the step to the inner door surface in flight and is longer strut to step than a C-182, and seemed to draw the square canopy nose towards the plane on opening. We had a guy that didnt take off his chest mount reservs and didnt route the static line under his knees as he jumpmastered. The girl left and the static line wiped down his front firing his reserve. It took him through the side of the plane dead under canopy. We never had jump doors then .
  7. Hey Jeff the only way that cpuld happen if you could really count to three . Besides your dog is etiil alive your not going to prison yet and you never had a wife leave you that we know of. In a few more months you and greg can get back into your go-low contest.
  8. Snowmobile shops have some nice ones. They are made to be under helmets. Someone mentioned the fabric on this post. It will stay tight with goggles too some people try knit ones in high visibility orange etc. etc .but they allow your hot breath to pass thru to your goggles and steam to frost. I used the nose and cheeks neoprene and with my beard it allowed the mask to flip around and go up over my eyes. I sewed a band front to back on the bottom to pass my chin strap thru .Problem solved
  9. Is the Blumax relative to the Blue Max Para -Commander. A friend sold one to my wife in 1974 or so. Just wondering
  10. I bought a square reserve from a guy that landed in the water at the Bridge in WV. The colors ran and it was now various shades of pink canopy. It was still airworthy but it affected his feminine side too much. The USPA training never brings up the depth perception problem. Kind of like the POPE giving lectures in labor pains. Kind of haved to be there done that to explain it better
  11. It appears to hold some kind if round cyndrical tank like a scuba one. Just a hint put something like a dollar bill in the picture, its six inches long for a comparison. there is no way to tell from picture itself.
  12. Freak Brothers was at Freeport so my guess 83or4. Masters of the Sky Skydive and Wings are Carl Boenish so it would be 71 t0 76 or so. The other 2 I am not familiar with. I hope its a start El Capitan76 or so
  13. Was it called a Hobbit? It was sometimes called a Hobbler too if I remember right. I did have a Comet 300 with 6or700on it only one cutaway the first jump on it, packed by the loft selling it,oops
  14. I got to jump with Jim in 1973-4 or so at the Para-Hawks DZ at Salem MI. Great guy then too
  15. One thing totally neglected is the base canopy doesnt have a TSO while the skydiving canopy does. BFD unless your the pilot and something happens his ass is grass and FAA is the lawn mower with brand new blades. Oh its cool to pull off stuff and not tell the poor pilot until something goes wrong. Then its your butt if the word gets out . Its hard to jump if no one will fly you.
  16. Was he from south Pittsburgh area. The kind of guy that would show up when others were buying , then disappear for his turn.
  17. 25 on Sept 15 1967, could have jumped Airborne in 1962.I was wearing green then and couldnt jump for fun on $113 a month
  18. The Notre Dame Foil had risers for Capewells that allowed you to change for nose up or down. It was early 70's There was a stubby riser about 4 inches long with a buckle system that allowed you to lower the nose and raise the tail for windy days. Then it could be reversed on the ground only for cross-countrys etc. You might be thinking of the trim tabs only .on the front risers for CREW. The brake loops on a baby plane and clouds were a treat, with the pull out lines for releasing them
  19. It was pretty common. If you checked your toggles in flight you would find full up one side might be 4 to 6 inche down to fly straight. most people moved that toggle up. In reality you could lower one and raise the other half. It looked funny when stowing the excess but worked. I was also told the only sewed front to back left to right. Anyone that sewed rip-stop knows the gather problems. Then your canopy would be smaller on one side at the finish. Seam pullers helped alot and laser cutting on panels
  20. I took my first 3rd class in 1969 . He handed me a cup and said bring mw a sample. If I took the cup my hearing was OK if I found the right door my vision was OK . If I set it down without spilling my depth perception was OK and if I didnt wipe my hands on my pants my aim was OK too. Here was my student card. Really no hops thats wierd that was normal for heart rate increases after stress. I was put in a chamber with a headset on and told to raise what hand I heard the first noise from in all pitches. As I said it was normal around the Detroit area
  21. Has any T.I. taken there third class physical as "Other " on the form. I always took mine as pilot SEL. I heard rumors its different than pilots , No jumping on one foot twent times etc. I sent this question to USPA naturally nu response.
  22. I had 120 on my Delta II's without any problema. I had my OSI shortened at the last wrap by Bill Keating along with other Red Devils mods. It was formerely owned by Big Bill Weber I would do stand ups in the peas to piss him of he only cut it away. I loved doing slack line stalls behind your back then let up for it to go over your head and dive below .you. I would do spins where it got below you to.. I still have mine reline shorter and no steering flap like the paradactyl. Never was as much fun the, wish I would have left it alone
  23. A few years ago like 1968 they tried a Mark II Para-commander {the drive panel opening in the back was closed off} They crashed into each other with great frequency. They got taken away . If everyone drifts off in the same direction to land with the grace and dignity of a clown falling out of a tree some where by gravity alone . The Army calls that a great day, they didnt have to lie to much about injuries.
  24. The only possibilities for MI. sometimes "Saggingballs" Saginaw I-75 exit 146 or Allegan by Grand Rapids the far west side.Or rarely Mt Pleasant. All sporadic at best.
