One of our sayings was "If its to windy to pack its to windy to jump, so just pack inside", Like yours just get a bigger stone or a brick, usually does the job.

Daft question (hey shoot me)
lekstrom10k replied to shropshire's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
We used to do it a Napoleon as the plane was descending home to Pontiac. We could put one in front and on in back, nod after closing and gone BFD. People are so stuck on themselves these days. Keep your pilot happy and he will do more for you. -
Alot of people did the real "Trash Pack" . We would "S" fold the lines in the tray stack the canopy no bag. The bridle still to the normal topcenter attachment. it worked OK. Nick had the pud on the center cell of his strato- star 5 cell. That made it the pilot chute. He said he made about 250 jumps that way. I think they were still "Beech-nuts" then from Austin lake MI. They merged to become "Exitus".The "Jump Shack" started in John Shermans basement in Farmington. They looked all over for a basement 40 feet wide to become an official loft. you had to pack on a table then with tension for reserves

My manta had over 2000 with no line sets my first Sabre had 2478 when it was retired Comet 300 over 2000 all Para-planes no stabalzsers 800 each. Sometimes new lower steering line are enough between line sets. Alot more depends on the economy then the jumps. I would rather have a higher number and jump. Then have a new canopy in the trunk when gas hits over $4.00 again.

In regards to the bambulance driver ,they have an uncontrollable urge to slice and dice riga. B-12's and friends at the scene unsnapping you could be a benifit. Your friends might have you free from your rig but they would find it 10 feet away because their book said they had too. maybe thats why they could make more money at Mickey Dees.

That was the whole point. How many times does a video man let a guy jump ,then leave after him ,go around the front for a face to face shot then watch him pull, alll this on a base jump. In freefall he was never totally exposed, had all the making of a photo-shop. Pity those who thought it was real. Also "The Pretender" did a tandem out of the left door of a C-177 ,no main risers LARGE woman no top attachment no lower connectors no goggles for either. very funny too

I saw a sport shoe ad on tv last week with a guy doing a base jump he is in it about 3 times. After stopping it via tivo I saw where his cutaway cable housing were attached. I havent laughed that much since viewing. Raquel Welch in Phatom with her double shots taped over. I would still love her internally inspite of her flaw today

Cazar Paralot ~ Strong Pop-top Copy

The pure white handle snapped off for a Canadian jumper that died from no pull. It was winter up there , so figure the coldest you have ever been then triple that and you have a mild jump day for them. -
Cross connector straps on round mains?
lekstrom10k replied to SEREJumper's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I agree we had them on PC's fot students. It was from 1974 up to 1980. We kinda told them not to try to watch the handle come out "Keep your head back once you locate it and pull your shot and 1/2's. A Sentinal handlecan hurt -
The AN-2 was the Russian Bi-Plane with the 1000 horse power Radial engine At the time it was the most widely produced airplane in the world , built in 8 countries even above C-172. Its definitely a Lodestar . The only one of that era I didnt jump was the Hudson. They were used as Light Bombers and trainers for the big boys

My musical innocence had been shattered

How about Jimi Hendrix "Excuse me while I kiss the sky". He also jumped "Airborne" in 1961 or 62 -
Paul I also jumped Sweets lodestar early 70's at your place. You had a meet going on for accuracy. We jumped the C-170's with the beer bouys for the pilots.Dave Sauve was there too . I talkto him still if you want his number I have it
-
Without side or rear shots its hard to say. By the looks of the belly so low I would go Lode star for sure . A 10-E and 12 had straight bellys. From the side 10-e had 5 windows while the 12 had only 3 ." Amelia" the recent movie swapped them around as there werent enough flying ones available. I was part owner of the one that burned up in Yankee Air Force Museum in Ypsalanti Michigan. Steve Fellows was the first owner after buying it from his Aero- mechanic school. I have jumped all three mentioned plus the Connie from WFFC.

I worked for "Dirty Dan the Parachute Man" in 1974 . Tom Campau and I were supposed to buy Latchford out , but I couldnt get a loan while on un employment. Dan gave me an all white Navy 28 foot 5tu all silk from April 1942. It was 3 months older than me . I did one hop and pop on it in 1973 at Salem MI. I thought I was going to kiss my ankles on landing It was as the saying goes "Abrupt".Never jumped it again. When a rig was ordered with shot &1/2's we drilled out the rivet and reriveted in the new covers.

She moved to Texas and so did my fun. I still love her internally or eternally
-
Yes she has 38DDand I got to hold to hold them when she tipped forward to trim my beard. She would be top heavy and might fall. She said I was the most considerate customer she had looking out for her safety and everything. Still have the beard and mammeries , memories but not Karen.

As I remember the 440... means its 44 inches long if itwere 445 it would be 44 1/2 inches. If the new pulleys make tha belt to long you can hack saw it to fit.Measure the old belt OD before cutting. remeasure it and subtract that from the 44 .That should be the new size. The belts are a size theoretical mid point median length. .BFD.Any auto parts store has a measuring device as long as you hold your cut ends close. Ihad my 1923 owners manual It listed Gingham and other non-nylon fabrics pretty funny to us I use a #20 needle for "E" or 69 thread

I fail to feel sorry for the numb nuts that did it. Half the fun of the jump was the ride to altitude. He was doing normal take offs . The Bozo was wrong and and after that no more chopper jumps. The legal and insurance costs were outrageous besides new rotorblades. The pilot was a great guy and didnt deserve that bastards stupidity.
-
Sounds like my first one . It was #40 but I didnt the reserve with it in 1968,
-
The original belt was a 1/4 inch or so round leather one with a glorified uphostery clip holding it together. Yours with a full loop meant there was a slot cut between the holes for it. Alot of people used to finger trap 1000 lbs suspension line to make the belt. How much slack is in the belt . ? does it run better if you flip the bobbin winder in to take up the slack? Just for grins mine has a letter "G" in the serial number . According to Singer that made it a 1923. If you see any old movies about the sweat houses in Boston from that era they all had 31-15's in front of them sewing shirts and stuff

Trying to get on the bottom of the list. I was told last Sunday there was a TV show that stated DB Cooper landed in his own back yard. Then depositeded $172,000 in his personal bank account two weeks after his jump. He was an unhappy employee of the airlines in Ohio and wanted revenge. He was interviewed as a suspect but determined to be to short to be DB. So all this post is for nothing. The guy didnt remember the name of the show but it was on the 12 or 13 Februrary
