I recieved a call from Bob Monroe about the passing of Nick Rouskey . He was electrocuted 750 feet up on a radio antennae in Florida. He with Harry Zeckman {RIP} and the Webber boys Billy and Lucky were the last owners of the DZ in Gregory MI at Richmond field. He had a DZ in FL for a while with around 1500 jumps. He did a base jump of an antennae there and was worried on the way down. People came out of the building and surronded him. "Going to jail for sure" he thought. They asked him if he was scared being up there. He replied "No" they then said "Do you want a job". Needless to say that started his carrier in the repair business. If anyone can get in touch with the Webber Boys please do for me as I had a phone stolen and lost their numbers

I started jumping in 1967 and a phrase going around then was "No sky to high ,no muff to tuff". That would answer your question about eating one. while not actually swallowing it.Never got my nymber wish I did though

The 1969 movie was "Gypsy Moths". It refered to the moth having an uncontrolable urge to fly into the flames . As the jumpers of the Bat-Wings didnt want to pull and self destruct.

I lift things up I put things down

If it was a turbine plane that is the usual procedure. If a turbine its a 20 minute cool down time before a restart. All staris are recorded for the overhaul. Why waste a restart if no one is close anyway.

Figure a twin otter door as $10,000 and a C-182 at $5000 that will ball park the C-206

Canopy collision? anyone seen this one?
lekstrom10k replied to AlexDias's topic in Safety and Training
After checking a map It was at Seven Hills in Wisconsin still dont know what year. -
If McGyver was so smart why would he lean on a prop of a twin in the opening sequence . The producers were so stupid to let him too. We had a jump airplane land at Detroit City Airport . The girl passenger whose dad owned a plane ran around the strut after taxiing in to tiedown before the prop stopped because she had to pee. Needless to say she soiled herself in blood instead. There is another part of the story never told too.

I saw this yesterday.WOW . If you listen at the end for the 911 directions its around Columbus Ohio . Or another Columbus. -
I remember staying in that building in Dec.1969. There were places to get sheets and blankets ,then make your own bunk for $0,25 but be sure to return the bedding ti the right places. I also remember a sign on the shower door stating "If your a jumper this water is not cold". Even being from Michigan it was a taste towards the chilly side, after Lake Superior and such. Sporting Tuna signed my log book after a C-195-6 jump.

What is the hardest plane to jump out of for AFF?
lekstrom10k replied to Amyr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
By your response you jump a passenger C-206. The gear is low style and after a jump step you room up and down is quite limited. Also step to wing strut distance fore aft is quite longer than a C-182 . We have had dope ropers fall betweem the strut and step. .Changed instructors and that went away.Good luck again -
What is the hardest plane to jump out of for AFF?
lekstrom10k replied to Amyr's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Is it a U-206 [big back double door} or a P-206 exiting under the wing? Do you sit or climb out ? if so is there a decent floater bar? A C-206 has always been a fairly useless jump plane . We taught static line jumps from them in the early 70's it was OK if that was all you had but you always wanted something easier.Good luck it will get better. -

I totally agree so does Billy Webers family DZ . They had to go to court and eventually lost their DZ because of WDI's in cows. The original length was judged for a non-steerable 24' reserve to drift back safely.I have told people at Tecumseh MI that we got out over the "Big Boy Resturant" in the rag and PC days. Usual answer "WOW thats way out there "Yup

I jumped ther a few times. Iwas told about the peison's no landing zone. I got to jumps Sweets lodestar in Indiantown Fl at Pop's place and then again there. I also jumped the Beaver left side exit Malone NY. Senneca Falls club?. On the same trip Turner Falls MA Taunton MA . Then of course Orange and Pepperell with a C-206 and water gear. The guy running it was old style and accuracy buff.

As far as the cutting goes It was the military's answer to the problem. If you cut 4 lines at the bottom it became 8 to replace as it was a continous lto the upper lateral band then down the other side to the front riser. It was the same reason they went to capewells. The main lift web became the riser then a solid link . Then the line was sewn to the link the the skirt ,up and over down the othersid repeat. Bad container scrap it all , bad canpoy scrap it all. That 4 line release system came out after metal release with a pin froze in Canada eventually causing a death. Seems to me it was some initials ?&? in red aluminum housing.

USFET Movies from the 70's
lekstrom10k replied to markd_nscr986's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Charley Greenfield is alive and well in the detroit Michigan area. Vickie is married to Mike Johnston in Deland Florida . I can talk to Charley to see if he knows of any movies left. How about asking Jeanne Boenish. There might be some left from the Gulch days -
There were a couple of other posts about the hard cover 150 jump books. I had one at Rantual at breakfast time Lew Sanborn came over to where I was sitting and said it was nice to see them still being used. He also told me it was his design from long ago . I have used them from my first jump in 1967. Of the 87 log books I have all but three are the blue hard cover. He then signed a few jumps for. Then he and I were the only ones to stand be quite for our national anthem. As far as the 500 jump books a friend once told me if you loose it 500 gone forever. 150 is all you can loose the other way. Still doing it that way
