Effects of leaning forward/backwards in harness
stayhigh replied to HUPRA's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
It will make you look cooler if you lean forward when landing. Try it, and have someone video you. and do a next jump without leaning forward. so there, leaning forward does significant things. Bernie Sanders for President 2016 -

IP may very, due to turn rate, air density, how much fronts are you pulling. Telling someone to turn higher and not seeing how they land is typically wrong answer. Almost 900 ft for a 270 on a katana sounds little too much, but than again, I haven't seen you landing this thing yet, so I'll shut up. Katana does dive hard tho. I feel like I turn my 120 almsot same height as my velo 96. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

Yeah, couple of my friends started freestyle moves with crossfire and katana, way before they started to jump x-braced canopy. Once they moved to vx and velos. they found it much eaiser to do freestyle moves. They started freestyle simply the same reason, they had about 500 jumps, they wanted to fly x-braced but so many people gave them shit about it. So they just simply turned things around on landing. People had bounce bingo going on with this two, but they never bounced, and hopefully never will. Some can downsize super quick and yet be perfectly fine, if others give you shit about what you fly, simply turn that shit all the way around, stand up, and give them a middle finger. After doing this for a while, the haters came up with the new rule of "the harness has to be facing same direction and lines can not be twisted while work jump landing." So they started their journey on ghost rider and switchblades, which I think they are more dangerous than blindman or miracle man. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

If your jump number is accurate, at 600 jumps. I'd say do another lineset on ka 120 and move to velo 96 or 90. Consistant 270 and learning how to do blindman, and switchblade, ect. ie freestyle move is much easier to learn with mellow canopy vs trying to learn how to do it on a crossbraced. That's how I know if i did a solid turn. Nothing like dytter screaming and telling me to pull my parachute in the mid turn. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

Which downsize first scared you?
stayhigh replied to NeonLights's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
When I went from Katana 120 to Fx 99. I had to turn lower on a smaller canopy so that scared me. alot. Bernie Sanders for President 2016 -
There are ton of katana 150 out there. Even with the katana, if you turn it right it will almost level itself off on 270's... That was using KA150 at 1.45 wingload. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

But why do we make it harder on ourselves when canopy that is going to "sink in" is out there?? Bernie Sanders for President 2016

Problem with super short recovery arc canopy is that, it almsot makes the swooper to turn lower to the ground, and they all expect that canopy itself will pull it out of the dive. and sometimes that same canopy will not come out of the dive like used to and if you are still waiting for your canopy to do its thing, you are too late. With short recovery arc canopy you need to be super precise. with canopy that can sink in, it is much easier and safer imo. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

Safire, Sabre, Stilleto, Pilot. Sigma 340, Sigma 370. All of those will climb back up after 270 as well. Change your canopy. If you aren't fan of pop ups. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

I get nervous if I don't jump for over 2 weeks, and I jump almost everyday. I get scared if I don't fly my velo for over a month. Bernie Sanders for President 2016

You don't wanna stall the wing when you land. you just want the wing to be flying almost at the stall speed. once it stalls wing doesn't carry your weight and you will have harder landing. most of the student canopy are set with lengthy control line so that they don't stall. If the wing stalls on you, you simply let your hand back up and wing will start to fly again, givien enough altitude. I have long arms, so I tune my canopy so I can't reach stall point accidentally when I hold in full break. There is two processes to land, first stage levels off your canopy and the wing will travel across the ground, second stage is when you give little sharper input to stop that forward speed. If the second stage is too early/input too sharp the wing will climb back up even, if second stage is too late/ intputing too mushy the wing will just sink into the ground, and plow you in. If you know how the wing works it will be relatively easier than the most people out there. Pilots do well in skydving, atleast the canopy part. They already know how to set the pattern. In light of the Velo Guy thread...
stayhigh replied to peregrinerose's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
i sold my velo to someone without ANY experience. Why bother even asking someone who can actually fly it. Chances are if you are to ask for experience, it will be very hard to sell something smaller than 84. If you are 18+ and can sign a check, you are old enought to make a decision. If volt's MSRP was at 30000. It might have done so much better. Right now it is at 40000. People who can afford 40000 car aren't looking for gas saving or a shitty car. Interior sucks, there are no space for cargo. It is practicaly Chevy cruze that has electric motor, and chevy cruze starts at 16k. I much rather wanna buy 15k worth of 86 octane gasoline. Lady Tandem Masters that shoot handycam
stayhigh replied to scooterskydives's topic in Tandem Skydiving
that should be the standard for the handycam video. let them shoot whatever they want to. while we can freely fly our arm, especially on exit and pull time. and that gopro does get in the way during EP. handycam on ti should be outlawed. and bring back the era of real aerial photographer. The "45 degree rule" for exit separation DOES NOT WORK
stayhigh replied to kallend's topic in Safety and Training
45 degree does not work. but I tell my students. if there is no information available, and pilot just tells you fuck off, when you ask him for the upper wind. only then apply 45 degree rule because it is better than none. Bernie Sanders for President 2016
