  1. >In Thailand, we spent a lot of time racing through traffic in tuk-tuks, probably the most dangerous passenger vehicles in the world. < I have done the same, and a friend of mine from Asia who lives in the US now said that most Asian countries, despite their "no wasted space in the yin-yang" appraoch to traffic, have motor vehicle fatality rates quite similar to those in the US. In the US, he said, we drive slower and inside the lines, but we make up for it by not paying attention to WTF we are doing. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

  3. Since you have a good number of jumps and can probably fly much better than the typicl student, you will probably be able to do tons of that stuff on a single skydive, and lots of the stuff on the card does not require a skydive at all. Before a skydive, do all the ground stuff about turbulence, emergency procedures, etc. and get those signed off. Pack your rig, making sure to adjust the closing loop. Check your coach's gear before you board the plane, explaining how the components (particularly the RSL and AAD) work as you go. Then do a jump where you spot the plane, send your coach out first and then dive down to the coach. Dock, back off, do a frontloop, backloop, and barrel roll, then wave your coach off, track, and deploy at the correct altitude. Make some front and rear riser turns, and some maximum performance toggle turns. Fly your pattern in half brakes. Now land on the target. That will get about half your card done. Sit down with the card and think about what you can do in just a couple of skydives. I neglected my own A card for a long time, so I had to do the same thing. I think it only took a couple of jumps. 4. It does not REQUIRE a bunch of EAS products, but the whole book contains snippets of marketing info about them, and they are promoted a good bit. Many EAS products make it much easier to stay on the diet. It is hard to balance the number of grams of carbs you eat with the number of grams of protien without using the EAS low carb shakes some. 5. I did it and had very good results, also. I could not stick it out the whole time, though. I fell off the wagon at about 10 weeks. That is actually why I started skydiving. A bunch of my friends and I went to do tandems in college, and the dz would not take me because I was too big (probably 240 at that time, but I got as big as 265). I did not ever think about it again until years later. My goal was to lose to 225, and when I got there, it made me remember that the weight limit at that dz in college was 225. I decided I had to do it. So I went out and did a tandem, and the rest is history. For all you "You'll just gain it back" people out there, I weigh 195 now, about 3 years later. Oh, and DW, if you think you can't gain it back, I know a couple of people who had great results from BFL, then quit. They were left with the six meal a day appetite, but no longer controlled what or how much they ate and no longer worked out. It wasn't pretty. Brent EDITED: See this thread http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=319437#319437 for more on dz.commers doing bfl and other stuff. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

  9. I did Body for Life and lost a bunch of weight, but it was incredibly difficult. BFL is very hard to stick to. I then did Atkins (real Atkins, not what you hear on the news - read the book) and lost a bunch more. I lost a total of about 70 pounds over two years. I am now doing something that I will call a cross between South Beach and Atkins as a maintenance diet. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

  11. I bet Ron would talk really bad about the jerk that pulled from the center when he chickened out at 2 grand, causing everyone else to go in. Or maybe he would talk bad about everyone else for being such giant morons that they went in trying to land a formation. 12. 2001 Liberty School Chardonnay is a safe choice for the white at about $15 a bottle. I will go with the Yellow Tail advice for the reds - in my opinion, you do not get any more for your money until you spend a good bit more. Another choice is to go with the stuff they sell at Trader Joe's - it is called Charles Smith, I think, but it is really good cheap wine distributed by Franzia. It is only about $3 per bottle, and it is honestly pretty good. If your guests don't see the label (or if they do and have never heard of "two buck chuck") then you will be fine. At a chicken/pork wedding dinner, I would count on serving three or more bottles of white for every bottle of red. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  13. You will have to get at this backwards, by looking at position data in the x and y axes over time. Note that the only real force we have is the result of air movement caused by our motion through the air in the z axis, so all other acceleration is the result of drag that is not acting on our center of gravity - I can think of no way that acceleration in any axis could exceed g, since acceleration in the x and y axes is really just borrowing some energy from the z axis. 16. The clamp would go on the part that had been cut in the past, and then the system would just release the clamp to cut the loop. Finding the small end of the riser loop that had been cut off would become the most challenging part of finding all your components, though. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  17. Will future versions of the system include a clamping system to hold a cut 3-ring loop? That way you would be able to reuse your risers. I must say, I am very much looking forward to seeing the system. Can you send a demo to West Tennessee Skydiving? ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com

  19. Judy - Even when it is cold I don't like to sit up there. Too much responsibility not knocking the knobs off the transponder with my rig. And besides, if I sit up there, you might be spotting. Dave - Two words: TAIL GATE. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  20. Your instructors must have been quite impressed with you canopy skills. Your wingload is higher than mine. I have 20x as many jumps as you. ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
  21. I have not had one, but I've seen one. It was far more violent than I ever would have imagined. The jumper cut it away, and it certainly never occurred to me while watching it that he should try to fix it. On the ground he said that when he looked up at his canopy and saw the landing area in the background, it became clear that he needed to try a different one. My advice: follow the advice of your instructors. Brent ---------------------------------- www.jumpelvis.com
