I don't agree. I think they were both on the rag at the time. Oops, did I say that outloud? Chris Yawn... did someone say ban?
-
if it's weather, both Katie and I will be jumping tomorrow at Raeford. If they are not jumping there, we will go to John's place.

Another note: the USAPT Golden Knights FS team went to K series Odysseys last year and experienced QUITE A FEW pilot chutes in tow when they mistakenly rotated their bags. They were told, straight from the factory, not to rotate the bag.
-
You are not supposed to rotate the bag in the K series Javs. Stick your lines in toward the backpad and leave the grommet up. That is how many, many of us have been packing the smaller javs for years now.

Who's going to be at Mardi Gras Feb 21st and 22nd?
SkymonkeyONE replied to crawford's topic in Wing Suit Flying
Me with short hair. That was 2001 I think and yes, it was easter. I still have that GTi. -
It's my guess that it's already being tried in secret, regardless of regulations to the contrary.

Simply showing the lovely scar will be enough to quell any suspicion.

Likewise, if the spandex is frayed and it has been stretched out from use, this would be a good opportunity to take it in a bit and redo the entire seam. Very, very simple stuff here.
-
turn the suit inside out and re-sew the seam. If it's a surged seam, then you may need to take it to your local alteration shop to make it come out pretty, but generally that's something you can repair with a light duty machine.

While the alti is only a tool, it's quite important for checks and balances. It is also incredibly important for learning turns at altitude. Without a tool to judge altitude loss during turns at altitude, you will have no idea what your final turn altitude should be. Throwing turns too high, only to plane out too high, then working your way down on subsequent swoops is not the way to find your optimum height for making turns-to-hp-landings. Your "sight picture" simply does not work at 5000 feet when you are practicing four-second turns; you need your alti to do the math. Chuck

Yet Another Stupid Student question Level D
SkymonkeyONE replied to hawkflight's topic in Safety and Training
Where are you jumping that you are doing solo, no grip exits on Cat D? Cat D's are one JM release dives with turns. Cat E's are solo exits with aerobatics. -

I will be organizing all skill levels at the boogie. -
See, that is an entirely different scenario altogether. Yes, in a Cessna, you are going to put students out first assuming SL or IAD progression.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Cross-posting here, but I am offering a ride (you help with gas) to anyone (up to three, plus as much shit as you can carry) who wants a ride down there on the 20th if you are along my route. Augusta-ATL-Auburn-Montgomery, etc. I am leaving Augusta on the morning of the 20th and staying at the boogie for the duration. I will leave the evening of the 29th or the next morning. PM me if you are interested. Chuck

Do I need a B-License to get a C-License?
SkymonkeyONE replied to SullyFlyer's topic in Safety and Training
I got all my licenses as well and I am far from a dork, Denise. -

You must have forgotten the "SLIDER TRIX" thread. -
Yes, pilotdave's site.

Do I need a B-License to get a C-License?
SkymonkeyONE replied to SullyFlyer's topic in Safety and Training
A smart person would keep track of the "tasks" that must be completed as they go, that way they don't waste an inordinate amount of time trying to dig them up and "doctor" their logbook when the time comes to get that higher license. -
Raeford, unless this has just changed in the past couple of months, also puts Freefliers out first. I didn't agree with it, but hey, it never led to any problems that I saw. I have never been to a dropzone that puts out freefall students before experienced skydivers (I have been instructing since 1985), so I don't know where that came from.
-
You cannot get a higher license unless you provide USPA with either an A-license or a copy of your fully-completed/signed/stamped A-card. This is another PERFECT example of someone getting totally hosed because the school where they learned was/is not following USPA doctrine. Listen, you are a student until your card is filled out and until you have a minimum of 25 skydives. The A card has been in effect since 1 October 2001. There is no excuse for not providing the requisite training to your students in order for them to meet the checks on the card, nor are there any excuses for taking their money for 7 to 10 AFF skydives and telling them "you are qualified." I have lived in Dallas, Fort Worth, AND Arlington. Arlington was cool because I was in the first grade and most everybody in our apartment complex worked at Six Flags. Six Flags was a whopping 3/4 mile from our apartments, so it was freakishly cool as a kid. We had free passes all the time. As an adult, I have spent quite a bit of time in different places in the state: Laredo, El Paso, San Antonio. All very cool in their own right. The only shitty thing about Texas is how long it takes to get all the way across the state.
