  7. setting up a PST-type diamond would be smart if you ever plan on hosting an event, but the new pond at Z-hills is nice as well. At any rate, here is what I consider to be "worth building" nowadays: -200 feet long minimum -30 feet wide minimum so that you can get some semblance of carve course set up -2.5 to 3 feet deep so that you don't soak your rig if you chow "on your feet."   8. Felix is a tool. That said, he DOES pull his ripcord when he flies his copycat SkyRay. He uses a spring-loaded pilot chute and ripcord on that rig.
  9. Military smoke is very hard on a rig. The slag from the canister often burns the bottom of your container and flies up into your canopy if it is still burning when you open. The Canadian "cold" smoke is much easier on equipment, but not as spectacular as the military variety. If you are going to jump "hot" smoke, you had damn well better get/make you a decent bracket with a quick release. Your best source of info on smoke is a PRO rated skydiver. Don't go out and half-ass any attempt at bracket making or you will probably regret it. Chuck Blue D-12501, PRO
  10. Wow. Totally unbelievable and tragic.....You know, this is one of at least five "storage unit" fires I have heard about this season. Most "stuff ease" units I know of are bonded and insured, so hopefully this will work out for you guys. I hope you had a current inventory of the contents. Best wishes, Chuck Blue

  13. You might see 25 percent of pro competitors at some meets using some combination of removable system, but that is a high average. I see absolutely no practical use whatsoever for use of a system like this on anything other than the most critical attempt at actually winning a distance meet. Some will argue that that it's also beneficial in the PST speed rounds as well, but then, in my opinion, the extra potential speed afforded might make you .01'ths of a second faster though the course.

  17. Sonic was the first one that was doing that. The system that he uses (occasionaly) leaves only metal rings (in place of traditional grommets) at the base of your risers after you pull on a central cord to release all the material from the rings. The latest combination systems use a slider such as this. Still, you don't even want to hear about how many chops I have seen due to either system, just the removable slider, or a combination of both. It's simply not worth my effort and the system grates on my nerves. Very, very few competitors actually use these systems, and then most who do only use them on distance runs. Personally, when I bother at all, I simply use a disposable system with an old d-bag, standard non-collapsible PC and bridle. I have never had one that was not recovered.

  19. Almost every single thing I like to do, or have to do while instructing, is best accomplished with a bigger door. Cheap tickets are second, but not so important to me because I don't pay for a lot of jumps.
  20. Your original post reeked of petty local dropzone politics; that was Tim's point. As to your statement about it being more convenient: would you rather drive to Orlando to fly in a tunnel? Which option is more convenient to you in that scenario. Raeford is 22 miles from John's place. The only thing that makes me nuts is that all this happened after I leave NC. Bummer.
