  1. That is a fantastic opportunity for the right kind of enthusiastic instructor to get that wingsuit-specific rig I keep harping about. Fantastic. Chuck
  2. I was particularly fond of the idiot who just couldn't resist stopping and getting his BP checked at that little machine while the zombies were running loose. It was incredibly funny when he got killed and only his arm was left in the machine (which showed no BP, obviously).
  3. April 7-12, but I am sure most of the jumping will be done over the weekend.
  4. Old, used, original Sabres can be had for a song. Setting up a wingsuit-specific rig, or simply having a wingsuit-specific main already setup in it's own bag, on it's own risers with a longer wingsuit bridle is incredibly smart.
  5. I had a good time flying main-side Instructor on your boyfriend's Level I AFF. He was a fantastic student. Chuck
  6. Looks like I will be in Dublin at the Roaming DZ boogie on the 19th -21st of March. I will have demo suits and Pantz and will be doing first flight instruction for those interested. Chuck BMCI
  7. Tony and Kate Thacker's house nearly burned down. I forget what he said was the cause of ignition, but the flames blew all across his property and surrounded his house. He and another person fought the flames with water hoses.
  8. That's where I'll be!!! Katie and I will be there as well. Me competing and she boogieing.
  9. You just figured that out???
  10. There will be no expanding that operation. The landing area will not accomodate more canopy traffic.
  11. I would expect nothing less. Failing to "represent" is cause for disavowment from the ranks.
  12. Yeah, if you don't break yourself again, fool!
  13. weak bone structure! Hoo hoo ha ha!
  14. You absolutely have medical benefits as a retiree. If you are near a military base and need emergency care, you will be triaged and treated just like any other person who walks in the ER of a military hospital. When you retire you automatically drop from TriCare Prime to TriCare Standard. Even with Standard, you have a TON of civilian care options. All that means is that you pay a higher deductible. For a very-small fee you can upgrade back up to Prime. If you are retired military and have not yet registered for TriCare, then you need to get off your butt and register. As a retiree you are also elibible for all VA healthcare services; I know plenty of people who use both systems regularly. edited to add that retiree ID cards are blue these days Chuck
  15. One of my best friends down in Alabama still has my old Vector I and still uses it as his primary rig. It's in great shape, he replaces the velcro when needed, and just can't quantify buying a new container at the frequency he gets to jump. There is nothing wrong with older equipment so long as it is properly maintained. Chuck
  16. Do not respond to this thread unless you are a TM with over 1500 tandems. It was a straight-forward question, so lets not dilute the thread with posts to the contrary. These are the types of threads which become instructional/research tools for current and future TM's. Chuck
  17. It is absolutely not my fault that Talkback has degraded into an almost rec.skydiving malae and that it's hard to find the signal through the noise. Blame that on all the people who choose to post the political/religious/anti-whatever threads and those who propagate them. I don't know about the rest of you, but at the boogies I go to and the dropzones I hang out at those are not the subjects of discussion. Blame those threads on your not being able to find the skydiving chit-chat discussions which have merit. We already have enough forums on this site; we just need to do a better job of preventing fluff overload in the one place where a majority of members spend the most of their time (talkback). We moderators moving posts to that forum ought to be enough of a prompt to effect a change, but instead we get people demanding that we change the rules. The guidelines of this forum have only become "fuzzy" because we have not been able to keep up with all the fluff that has been seeping into it. Let enough people see a forum in a diluted state for long enough and all of a sudden they get irate when we step in and cull out the tumor. This forum was added some time ago to give people who had genuine skydiving discussions (which didn't fit into the other specified forums) a place to put their posts which were clearly a bit more serious than "talkback". If we created a new forum called "skydiving talkback", then the current talkback forum would become absolutely useless (as far as a skydiving site goes) and simply a tax on the bandwidth of this privately owned site. There would be no "value added" in doing so. We do the best we can to keep the tone of the forums inline with the descriptions. We try our best to prevent complete anarchy, as allowing it would simply lower the hard-earned credibility the site has earned over the years. It's this type of moderation that separates this site from ALL of the other skydiving related sites. Chuck PS: I will leave this thread here for a bit, then probably move it to talkback at the end of the day after everyone gets a chance to read it here.
  18. Is that the jump aircraft featured in "The Gypsy Moths?" The Howard in "The Gypsy Moths" was a tail dragger. I just watched that movie again for the first time in about 20 years when I was at the Mardi Gras Boogie. Chuck
  19. Incorrect assumption and clearly taking your definition out of context. This forum is for general discussions on the physical act of skydiving which do not fit into the other "specified" forums. Talkback is exactly where other philosophical skydiving discussions go, along with everything else people care to post. Talkback would be a much better place if people would use it as a place to shoot the shit about skydiving stuff. For some time now, though, it has just been used as place to argue about politics and religion. Just because you see that stuff there is no reason to not post your skydiving/dropzone related stuff. Re-read the sticky post at the top of this forum. Read it as many times as it takes to understand it. Chuck
  20. Six years old on an old-school mini bike. Next was a Yamaha 80 at age 10, etc, etc, etc, etc, up to my current 1987 FXLR.
  21. It depends. If they are doing a good job of following commands under canopy (I always let them steer at altitude), then I will allow them to assist with landing. If they are sketchy and not following my instructions, then I will land un-assisted. That's the beauty of decent tandem mains; I never really need help to land them.
  22. I do a mix between simply unhooking then and getting them behind the passenger's legs (if they are taller than me); or unhooking, loosening, re-hooking (if they are my size or smaller). In the event of a canopy collision and the need to cutaway, I can going to wrap the passenger up with my legs and force them into an arch while chopping. Chuck
