  3. Ian....I too would be interested in reasons for loosening the chest strap before popping toggles. I bring my slider down, pop the toggles, then loosen the chest strap with my toggles still in hand. Thanks for any input. 4. Thanks airtwardo! I was looking for just 1 hat for personal wear but i'll look into buying more. Everyone sells the adjustable hats but not my style. Thanks for the info. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  5. Yes reverse S-fold works well. Keep at it!!! Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  6. I'm thinking thats what I might have to do. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  7. Anyone know of a gear shop or other outlet that sells fitted skydiving hats? All anyone seems to have is adjustable. I've been trying to google it but not coming up with much. Flexfit requires 56 hats for custom embroidery...so not an option. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  8. My dad once said to me: "when I'm done getting butterflies in my stomach looking out the door of the plane, I'm done skydiving". That has always stuck with me for some reason. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  9. Fair point...and I don't think we have a habitual habit of pushing it to the limit. For the most part I see jumpers understanding the importance of opening higher. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  10. I think what you said is important to note for all newer jumpers. I jump a crossfire 2 and pulled at 2200 on a recent "hop n' pop" load (I use that term loosely as I had reached terminal). When my canopy was finally opened my Neptune read 1150. I didn't violate a BSR. I did violate common sense. Todays canopies need to be opened higher for a lot of reasons: 1. Some are "eliptical" - line twists become malfunctions 2. They take longer to open (800ft or more is not uncommon) 2. We have a lot more to deal with after opening: A) collapse slider, loosen chest strap, take off booties B) Figure out where the rest of the 23 people on the load are C) Fit yourself into a landing pattern (that begins immediately after opening - not at 1000ft.) D) Avoid swooper lanes, or get yourself over to a swoop lane [Feel free to add to the above list - these are just off the top of my head.] Put it all together and the BSR requirement of a container opening by 2000ft for C & D license holders is no longer valid and paradoxically is no longer safe. 11. Have you installed a beer bottle holder on the crutches yet? Monkey...don't forget about the orange stripe that makes the crutches faster We gave Brian all the belts and suspenders at the Byron Boogie this year. 12. Was this, perchance, a Wings? Yes it was. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  13. NewGuy - Here are a couple things i've seen since January; and maybe this should be a whole new thread but.. 1. An RSL was improperly routed. It was wraped around the cutaway cable housing. It may have worked but was not correct. Same jumper was jumping in jeans and a long sleeve tee. The tee was not tucked in and was long. Would suck to play hide and seek with the reserve handle if it was needed. 2. Closing loop to long. Bag fell out of the container at about 2000 ft in the plane. In fact, both of these issues happened on the same load. After I closed the container back up (handy to have a pull up cord in jumpsuit - thanks K!) I noticed the RSL on a different jumper. 3. And this one was strange to me...I was helping someone connect their main canopy after they demoed a reserve. After the three ring was assembled I was looking to put the excess cutaway cable into the hard housing. Only problem was - there was no hole in the fabric covering the hard housing. So the jumper had been jumping with the cutaway cable slid underneath the hard housing. I'd never seen/heard of that before and don't know that it would have been an issue, but again it was not correct. We put a small hole in the fabric and correctly routed the excess cable in the hard housing. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  14. jp - you have a very valid point about jumpers learning and knowing about their gear. In the last 2 months I've seen some things by "newish" jumpers in the plane that make me want to vomit. The overall lack of knowledge of gear is frightening. To the OP - Thank God you didn't have to use that mess. Take this as an opportunity to learn as much as possible. And to those of you who cut-away perfectly good mains for fun (no - not those of you with 3 canopies)....lets hope you don't have something like that for your reserve. There is nothing guaranteed about a reserve. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  15. You....bring beer.... Edited to add: There you go D! Much better. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  16. steinke...whats up buddy? We must do a jump this year. and if you quit drinking...that means I get your yaeger(sp?) bomb...or three. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  17. Jp, Does it matter? A legally certified rigger should not make this type of mistake. We all know mistakes can happen. At 100 jumps I doubt many jumpers have a "regular" rigger. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  18. Fair enough I should have put nightlife-ish Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  19. So I posted on the Skydive Alabama forum but wanted to double up here. In terms of nightlife and hanging out which city is better to stay in, Decatur or Cullman? Do you guys recommend anywhere else? Prefer a holiday inn...but i'm not paying so it doesn't really matter. I've been known to have a beer every now and then...and I don't like going to sleep before (Insert time bar closes here) on Friday or Saturday. Its not healthy. Thanks! 20. +1. I cant too I'm with you guys. I can't picture this. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  21. Yes...you need to go back next weekend. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  22. Thanks all! Are you guys really doing a 6:20am load next Saturday? I'd have to get in on that just to say I've done a sunrise load. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  23. sweet...just booked the tickets to Nashville. Work on Thursday, Friday...then jumping Saturday & Sunday. Back to work on Monday in Starksville, MS. Could have gone home for the weekend but I figured I'd meet some new cool people and skydive. now if I could only find a way to put all my skydives under the "airfare" portion of my expense report.... 24. Thanks Billy! I'll be staying in Decatur at the Holiday Inn so no problem with not having showers. Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
  25. Hey guys/gals- Work is brining me to Nashvile, TN and down to Starkville, MS. Figured I'd stay the weekend and jump at a new DZ. Anybody posting on here going to be at Skydive Alabama next weekend? What is the place like? Thanks! Marcel Losers make excuses, Winners make it happen God is Good Beer is Great Swoopers are crazy.
