You could always try a safire 2 :) They open very nice. I have put about 20 jumps on a sabre 2 135 and just hate the openings. I think PD has a great product but its not what i'm used to. Canuck, Skydance in Davis, CA has most of the below items. I don't know if they operate before Thursday however. I know they have been trying to do Pac loads on Thursday/Friday evenings. Don't get on the plane to begin with. In most circumstances there is not a significant difference in wind speeds between take off and landing. Did you know the winds were high when you got on the plane or did they pick up significantly during the climb to altitude? Hey all, Found a picture I took last year at the boogie. This year is going to be very tough. Joel was the first person I met up at lost prairie and he was responsible for the immediate warm and friendly vibe I got about LP. The road trip from Byron was with Tommy D. I have put about 150 jumps on a safire2 159 (loaded 1.3) and liked it alot. I am used to the flare (deeper in toggles than the sabre2). My buddy went from his sabre2 and jumped my safire and hated the openings and flare. I jumped a sabre2 and hated the openings and the flare. My safire 159 took a loooooong time to open. I was ok with that. The sabre2 opened quicker, but was by no means hard. I always had off heading openings with the sabre2. Only every once in a while with the safire2. I think if you jump both (10 jumps or so a piece) you'll get a feel for the different characteristics of each. I think canopy courses are fine to take...but I learned everything I was taught in my 1st canopy course during my FJC. I did a static line course for what its worth. The course in Elsinore was a great canopy course, but honestly, everything we did I had already done and knew about. I'm not sure if thats the norm or not, but some of the people in the class had over 200 jumps had never practiced flat turns or stalled their canopy. I do this as SOP for new canopies. I think education will surely help. But I don't understand why a BSR separately landings area's in space or time is horrible. This is a self governing sport. The SIM is a guide. Lets put this in there and word it such that DZO's can adapt it to there own specific DZ. Maybe the next to cool for school hot rod that swoops through canopy traffic will get a different reaction from us (skydiving community) if its an actual BSR thats being violated as opposed to a subjective claim of "i know what I'm doing" we hear to often. well i've been stuck in worse places without a rig I don't really want to have an issue. If it was easy to do I'd like to bring my rig, but not worth it if there is a lot of hassle. Hey all. Just got short notice of a two week trip to PR for work. Not sure that I'll have a bunch of free time but if I can get away for a day or so I'd like to jump at Extreme Skydivers. Does anyone have info on normal hours of operation? They open much during the week? Will be flying AA out there. Thinking of carrying rig on in a bag. Anyone been through this flying into San Juan? You were one of the first LP locals I met at the boogie last year and we kept talking about how we had to make a jump together. Between your tandem's and us just missing each other on the sunset load we never quite made it. It was great seeing you in Byron last year. And we STILL didn't get that jump in. I think in some cases education and having a tiered canopy progression will help. It will help the new generation of skydivers coming up. However, it would not have helped Bob, Danny, Tommy D or Cliff. All of them, best of my knowledge had 1000's of jumps, D licenses and KNEW how to fly canopies. With the exception of Bob- judgment was grossly lacking in all of these cases. Education in these cases would not help. This is where I believe the BSR thread discussion comes in. Without complete information from the recent accident at Taft it appears it MAY be a double malfunction. With the accident at Crosskeys in the past year and the accident in Colorado are double mal accidents on the rise? Maybe I'm just paying more attention. Thoughts?
