Not a first unfortunately. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I thought suicide when I heard the accounts of the crash this morning. Rapid straight descent, no distress call, no deviation from flight path just a rapid dive. Sad. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Can I get any Job in skydiving world?
DougH replied to srikanth_1980m's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
What is any job? Scrubbing toilets, washing tandem harnesses, packing sport rigs, packing tandems? Are you talking about work jumps? No offense but I hope you don't get work jumps most places unless you are heading off to the NZ school with a few hundred jumps under your belt already. I wouldn't want you to have more experience before trying to film myself and a tandem passenger. You wouldn't have enough experience for an AFF rating, and you could do coach jumps but that really isn't a full time thing. I know my DZO would give coach jumps to our aspiring local jumpers first, and it should be that way. [Quote] Given that I am Indian will employer be willing to sponsor work visa for me. Work visa's for skydiving in the US are extremely hard to come by. It normally isn't even possible, even if there is a willingness for a DZ to do so. There won't be willingness, work visa are expensive and difficult, and they aren't going to do this for a coach rated jumper, or a tandem packer. Good luck. If I was you I would try to get a placement in the US doing computer programming, and go to the DZ on the weekends. You can gain experience, still visit the US, and you will be able to feed and shelter yourself during the trip. Do that for a few times and you will have the experience for ratings. I know people want to cutaway, I get it I am a tax accountant that works 70 hours a week some parts of the year, and is a tandem instructor on the weekends. It is tempting at times, but when it rains all week I don't go broke. If I ever break myself I can still earn money as long as I can wheel myself into work in front of my PC. Best defense is actually through a credit monitoring service. I use two, one through myfico.com, which is part of fair isiac, the company the comes up with the logirythem for the actual FICO scores. The other is through my citibank credit card. Both report in real time if there is any credit applications, balance changes, new accounts, etc. Well worth the small cost. I can stop things cold before they turn into bigger problems. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Maybe I am thinking Pilot sizes. Crazy Aerodyne sizing, I have owned 168's, 132, 117's, 104's. The only normal Aerodyne size I have ever owned was a 140 pilot, and I guess now a 135. Thanks for the information. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Are these things at all compatible with lightenings for CRW? I have a CRW Triathlon 132 that has been sitting in a tub in my basement shelves for a few years. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Bought one for this season, mainly because I would procrastinate on getting my Cypress two serviced, so I lost use of it. Stupid, but if it needed to get sent out in the middle of a busy time at work I didn't get around to it. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I remember seeing this one a TV show. The jumper was hanging from the wheel strut, below the step. The took several passes down the runway with people in the pickup truck trying the free the jumper. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Tandem instructor here, but certainly not the most experienced, but I will share my thoughts. Your wife didn't have a mishap but for sure there was real danger the second she decided to strap herself in to an airplane with the eventual goal of jumping out of it. Skydiving is managed risk, jumpers die, and yes with less frequency sometimes tandem pairs die. Your wife experienced a scenario outside of a perfect dive flow which posed a potential hazard, but I hesitate when using the word experienced because outside of her instructor mentioning it she wouldn't have noticed anything. My guess on what happened, the drogue got stuck in the dead air above the pair, and inflation was delayed compared to a typical tandem jump. A tandem pair has a big burble, basically dead air above them. That is why tandem instructors are trained to make positive drogue throws while stable, out and away, into clean air. A bad drogue throw can get the drogue stuck in the burble, often plastered against the instructors rig and back, or dancing in the unclean air of the burble before finally deploying. It increases the risk of a high speed deployment. It also increases the risk of entanglement between the pair and the drogue bridle. An instructor can go a whole season, or multiple years, without a single bad drogue toss, but they are human and can mess up, and they can be caught off guard when a student suddenly changes their body position. It happens, the instructor deals with it. Her instructor dealt with the problem appropriately, they got an open main parachute. My biggest wonder here, is why he informed your wife. It didn't add to her experience. Why bother mentioning it when the issue was dealt with, the student didn't notice, and you weren't going to take the time to fully explain what happened. I would have given her a high five, welcome to skydiving, and kept my mouth shut. Tell you wife congratulations on her jump. If she enjoyed the experience before Mr. Flappy Lips planted that seed of doubt then she should consider jumping again. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I started using an XSi with the kit lens about 7 years ago. At the time I thought it took amazing shots. I am sure there is better out there now, but I still think the shots look great. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Question for USPA instructional rating holders
DougH replied to peek's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I open mine 95% of the time and read through it. My guess is that most people don't open it for the same reason they don't open many emails, communication overload. It isn't that the USPA email unimportant, it is that it is sitting in an inbox that gets 300 emails a day! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Blurred vision - Go for a full face helmet?
DougH replied to frontloop33's topic in Gear and Rigging
Did you try Sorz. They have a foam gasket that seals out almost all airflow. I jump with contacts with zero issues. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Why do we have to endure this guy's presence. Please mods, enough is enough, ban him from the topical forums. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I have plenty of time to fiddle with covers in the 182, lol. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Have you had a unit in your hands to inspect? I think it is well designed, the pivot is recessed and has virtually no gap. I don't think you are any more likely to snag a bridle than any other of the other purpose built gloves on the market. It is much more snag resistant that earlier gloves like the Cookie glove that uses the standard housing. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Backpacking Round The World.. How Do I take my rig?
DougH replied to TWPalmer's topic in Gear and Rigging
Crowd source? Locate jumpers with quality gear in each location that would be willing to lend/rent to you. You could know for each drop zone what you are going to jump. I wouldn't want my rig for backpacking personally. I would rather do any legwork it required to keep it safely at home, and allow packing space for more useful items. How would you spend 13,5K on skydiving?

I know that, and you know I didn't say that. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

25 hours of tunnel time in a compressed time frame would result in an impressive flyer. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Jerry, what size canopies is the demo bag built for? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Mine fits in a carry-on sized roller. I wouldn't carry it loose. At some point you have to stow it, either under the seat, or in the overhead. Without a cover you are just asking for the snot nose kid in the seat above you to dump his apple juice all over it. You also have to run it through the x-ray, and they filed with all types of grease and grime, another reason for a bag or cover of some sort. I found that it didn't increase the battery life at all, and if the battery back pack was dead, the camera wouldn't turn on even with a fully charged internal battery. Maybe defective? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

That is pretty awesome. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I put about 300 on mine this summer. I have the back which allows the battery backpack on the lower camera. Unfortunately I have found the go-pro 3+ battery back pack to be absolutely useless, but that is unrelated to the handicam setup. I think the setup is awesome. I like the protection for the cameras, and their lenses. I like the button, instead of being forced to use one-button. The value is way better than other gloves that offer finicky velcro, force your to use one-button, and don't protect the camera lenses. My only issue was that the screws for the pivot would sometimes loosen up, but it that happened over many jumps, and a quick tighten once a week was fine. Just talking out of my ass here, but Netflix is a subscription which allows you to stream content, I don't know if that extends to a third party service to record it. I don't see how that would be any different from getting a DVD from Redbox and ripping a copy of it. Your rental covers person use, not person retention. I think we lucked out. I got 3 feet, and drifts much larger, in North East CT. But the snow was light and fluffy, and there wasn't much in the way of power outages. Most of CT got much less than forecasted. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
