how much would it cost to open a DZ?

That is a pretty broad question don't you think? How the heck would we know??!! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

If you have to ask, then you can't affoard it. That being said I have tossed around starting a *jumping centered business*. I figure I could sell landing photos to tandems that don't get video, pack here and there, and work towards a coach rating. Then I could capitalize my gear, and write off jumps as a training expense. I have to see what the other accountants in the office think of my crazy idea. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Here is my concern, and I will lay it out there so others with more real experince can pick it apart. I don't think additional lines are going to break. I do think conditions might change however as you get closer to the ground. The canopy is walking wounded, but it is flying ok, and practice stalls seem ok. I get down low and I hit some of the nasty turbulence my dz allways has. Is the parachute, which was functioning despite broken lines at 2500 feet, going to continue to function at 500 while getting bounced around. Maybe I am putting to much trust in my reserve to be trading a functioning, although damadged main, for it? That is worth considering. Incident reports quoteing newspaper reports
DougH replied to slug's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Would you rather a new jumper not post "what is a horseshoe malfunction" in an incident thread, because he had his head up his ass during his first jump course, instead of admiting he is missing some key knowledge? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
It may be there, square, and steerable. Do you trust it to remain the same all the way to final, 300 feet above the ground? If I have shit hanging down, and I am above my hard deck I am going to trust my rigger, and hope I recover my main and my freebag. That is my personal choice, and I would have to have enough altitude to do a long long controllability check to convince myself otherwise. I remember saying that... and I was on a smaller canopy to start. "I love this hornet 210, I don't even want to downsize, I just want to buy a cloan of this canopy" I am very happy with my current canopy, and I plan on hanging out under if for a couple hundred jumps, but that is what I said the first time around. I have had only one instance of line twists, and I was spinning like a mad man on my second aff when I whipped it out. (And now I am going to have 30 in a row) "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I was wondering if any one knew of any drop zones in the Caribbean besides the ones in Puerto Rico? My girlfriend has been giving me some grief about never planning trips, and if I am going to be some where nice and sunny for two weeks it would be nice to enjoy some free fall time. It was the first time I was ever in a tunnel, and at the time I only had 1 AFF jump and one tandem. I don't think it matter if I did 2 minute or 10 minute blocks. I was to busy fliping over, bouncing walls, and grabbing the net to notice. I am mostly kidding, but I felt 3 minute blocks were fine. I am going to call later this afternoon, but does any one know any more about this offer? I am very interested. I was wondering if you had to use the time in 1 hour blocks, and if there were black outs on the time of day you had to use the 5 hours, or days of the week. It sounds like a great deal to buy the *membership* and then take a couple of trips to the tunnel with a few people from the DZ. And it is such a sweet plane. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

1 minute warm up for every one in our group to clear basic skills, then two minute blocks. In the orlando tunnel I did 5 3 minute blocks. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I take it you would rather be speaking German, and driving through check points to get to the DZ. Not only is this absurd, it is also in the wrong forum. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I have the Altitrack, and I have about 25 jumps on it so far. It doesn't have canopy alarms, besides an audible with canopy alarms would be way better suited for that then a wrist mounted altimeter. It is nice to replay your jumps, either on the analog face, or in the jump long in the back. I wanted something with an analog face, and digital features, so it worked out great for me. It fits on your hand great, and the dial is offset for easier viewing. I give it 5 out of 5 so far. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

TSA Incident Report - ORD 10.10.2006

It is in their right to break out the screw drivers and take apart your business laptop, or your cell phone, because all the "wires raised suspicion". That doesn't mean that they should right? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
A lawyer will have to correct me, but unless you are an independent contractor, you are an agent of the DZ. If you are sued from conduct relating to your daily work conditions then they have to pay the legal fees and the judgement. If I am running errands for the partner of my accounting firm, and I get into a fender bender, the firm is liable. I may be named in the suit, but they are required to pay for my legal defense, and the judgement if I lose. If I am commuting to work, that is outside the scope of my job, and it is up to myself and my insurance company to deal with the suit. Questions regarding newbie RW and a purchasing a suit...
DougH replied to DougH's topic in Relative Work
Hey every one. I am starting to get into fun RW, and I am going to be competing in amateur two way in the collegiate nationals down in lake whales this winter. I am wondering what is a good base speed for relative work. I am a pretty stout in relation to my height, so I tend to fall fast in tight suits. I weight around 175, but I am only 5'6. Is there a good speed to be falling at neutral, so you can have a range, both slower and faster through body control? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Some DZ's you can still leave your stuff lying around, although if there are a lot of tandem students I am less likely to do so. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

My braked approach for my A license card was from half brakes. I didn't let up for the flare because I didn't want the surge, and I still had enough left for a decent landing. I guess it was more of an accuracy landing according to the above description? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

My DZ has a scale, with "Lie Detector" written on it in black sharpie marker. They have a 225 weight limit, and they don't charge a fat tax if they decide the conditions are ok for a couple of pounds over their normal limit. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
