What if you fell out of an airplane without a parachute?
DougH replied to Vertifly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I am going to track for the thicket of pine trees... and kiss my ass good bye. No flailing, just a nice track till the end. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
I don't think about legal complications when I am in the plane, I think of three things only: how to dive the plan, how to keep every one else from killing me, and finally and most importantly how to keep from killing every one else. Fawk the legal aspect, the priority to live comes first. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I am not thinking too much, but I understand why you would think so. It was just an amusing, if slightly morbid, chain of events that popped into my head. I am not afraid this is going to happen, and this thread isn't my way of adding to my list of EP's. I practice my EP's every day, on alt, and touch handles in free fall. This was just a no shit what if thread. IE: What if you had a double total, what would you do. I would track for my riggers car. Right I agree, it would go from a slow speed Mal to a high speed one the second you start hacking. On the other hand if you are really high when things start going bad, and you reserve is in a hard spin, your main is most likely going to tangle up with all of it. If you only get through one set of risers you can still deploy the main as a last chance. I have never cut a set of reserve risers with a hook knife so this is really all conjecture. I think you are hosed either way. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

What if... premature reserve deployment, blown up cells... cut it off???

skydivings impact on your relationship
DougH replied to fpritchett64's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It just reminded me about how dissatisfied I was with my current situation. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
The thread about reserve handles brought up this thought. If you have a premature reserve deployment, and it is severally damaged, or not safe to land due to a bad line over, or tension knots, what do you do? My thought would be since the main is still there, in the bag, you can cut away the reserve risers with a hook knife, get belly to earth, and deploy the main. Or would it be better to pull the main and try and inflate it into a two out? I was just curious what other people would do in this what if situation (assuming you have enough time to even deal with it). Edit: Sorry I believe that this should be in the saftey and training forum. I must have been a little mixed up. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Guess why most swoopers are using digitals Because they are nutty? So does the accuracy come from the ease of reading, or from the mechanics of a digital unit? Right now I am torn between getting a new altitrac, or another altimiter that has logging features. I guess I could also get a regular altimeter, and an audible too. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Are the digital ones accurate down low? Say from 1000-300 feet. I use my alitimeter a good deal to setup my landing pattern. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Send your money to a neutral rigger; he does the same with the rig. Then when the rigger is satisfied with the rig he gives the guy the money, and you the rig. I bought mine sight unseen off ebay. It went well, but I had some moments where I was worried about the transaction. Dealing through a rigger would have saved me some worrisome moments. Either a real bargain of real dangerous

Looks like a f111 canopy that was abused by students like me, sans lines to me. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Not DEA, but I know some people in the IRS. It is a tiny drop zone, that is why I can state this with confidence!!! Hell our DZO doesn't even drink, not a drop. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Five "accuracy" landings for A license?? Stand ups only?
DougH replied to DougH's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
That is a good way of putting it. Like I said I don't mind the harder requirements... I was just wondering what the standard was. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Not at mine. No beer cans get opened until after the last load, and I have never even seen pot there period. I would be more concerned about the lives that could get hurt, than the people who could get in trouble. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Five "accuracy" landings for A license?? Stand ups only?
DougH replied to DougH's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I was hoping to get some clarification please. I am aware that on my journey to get my A license I need to have 5 jumps within 20 meters of preselected target. I am reading the two sided proficiency card and it seperately mentions: "demostrate a stand up landing". Originally my instructor has been telling me the accuracy landings also need to be stand ups. Which I am aiming for any way, I stand up more than a fall now, but it sounds like I don't need to stand up in the peas for them to count. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -
Were you eating cooked cat by diner time? I would have been!!!!!!!! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
-
I dunno but I thought it was funny. Thanks for clarifying every one. For some reason every time some one mentions "loops" I get a picture in my head of tinkerbell doing a lazy looping circle... not a picture of the tight fast tucked flips that I do when I do a front flip or back flip. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Because jumping out of airplanes, and the people that I have met who do the same, together are the one thing that has really been missing my whole life. I have never met better people, and I have never been as happy in life as I am now that I am jumping!!!! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Chris don't be embarrased, I freaked my radio operator way out on my first AFF jump. I caught thermals along the whole downwind leg of my pattern and I knew I was too high, I turned onto my cross wind and by the time I got to the spot for my 300 turn for final I was way way high. I should have turned onto final and done S turns, but instead I looped back on the corner, over the trees. So I do a toggle turn with the intention of doing a 360 and being at a better alt for the final. Almost at the end of the turn I get radio instructions to do a hard left... I guess they didn't know what I was doing (I was just making it up as I went)... and this put me even farther over the trees!!!! I landed fine, but my poor radio operator was grey by the time I landed. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
-
I don't disagree in the least bit, and of course "your mileage may vary", I just wanted to share how flying by the radio made me feel. Sorry if I sounded like I was totally against students on radio.
-
I finally decided I had enough of the radio, and now I can actually fly a pattern. The moment I was off the radio I landed my own pattern 3 feet from the peas. I just didn't find it to be helpful and it made the landing experince much more stressful on the first three jumps I did on radio, for myself, and the poor guy on the other end of the radio. Are front flips and front loops the same manuever...? I wasn't sure so I thought I would ask. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Lets all get together on a group buy, maybe we can save shipping that way. Sid sent me a RW suit that is too tight, but I definetly want to get a suit or two from these guys. The suit Sid sent me was very well built. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
