Does pulling the release on this system actually open the container, or just release the drogue which is then supposed to open the container? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

When I broke my ankle the retail costs before discounts and adjustments for the ambulance ride, two days in hospital, two surgeries, and one ER visit when I thought I was stroking out was over 250k dollars. The health care industry can straight up go fuck themselves. They deserve what ever crushing regulations are dealt to the whole bunch, from the hospitals to the insurers. Be careful folks. It sounds like the models are starting to have a high level agreement that FL is going to get battered. https://www.wunderground.com/cat6/category-5-irma-5th-strongest-atlantic-hurricane-record "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Manifest Dilemma - What would you do?
DougH replied to Diogenes's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Guessing this isn't a serious team. No video slot? Not manifesting as a team plus video? Why would the team members individually manifest? "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

That is a terrible canopy in general, and an ever worse choice to start learning to swoop. You don't need to be hucking large amounts of rotation and making long swoops to bust yourself up, or worse. My best advice is to try to find a mentor that isn't over a web browser that can give you advice. Get a new one if they tell you it is a good idea to start self-teaching high performance landings with a Diablo! A Sabre II, a mentor, and coaching will get you a lot further. Forget about the civil war. Many haven't even gotten over desegregation yet. The outrage of sharing a lunch counter, and having your kids go to the same schools. Maybe they can start with that and work their way back. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

I hope so too. Wow! I don't have much of a dog in this fight, I am a weekender at a great dz with a great DZO and S&TA. If I ever find myself at a place where I can't ask pointers, and the instructors aren't comparing notes due to some misguided goal of keeping up appearances, then I won't be there for long!!! I have no qualms about shit talking their asking price, and their mentality on the Facebook buy and sell forums. I would also call bullshit if someone was trying to pull that locally and I caught wind of it. Some will say the market will pay what the market will pay. But I think that is bullshit when prices are up because you are getting unwitting new jumpers to buy your "new" shitty gear at inflated prices! They way I look at it, any rated Tandem instructors should have the common sense, and professionalism, to ask other experienced instructors for guidance in new situations. New airplane, ask others. Student with physical impairments, ask others. New drop-zone, ask others. You should have the skill set already, you just need to know the differences when approaching new situations. Unless there is a rigger in Boston he may be looking 1 hour plus anyway. Several riggers at my home DZ, Skydive Danielson, which is about 1 hour 20 from Boston. It is located in North east CT. Brian Grady is the master rigger that runs the loft at Jumptown, in Orange mass. Also 1 1/2 hours away. Maybe check Brian, I can't remember if he lives near Jumptown. He may end up being closer than the actual DZ. The DZ could help connect you with him. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Not really the place for this question. There is a considerable difference in how to approach a 182 tandem jump versus a turbine jump with a door big enough for a crouched or stand up poised exit. Differences on how to get a good exit, different snag hazards, different approaches to hooking up. That being said any rated tandem instructor should have the skill set to transition from one to the other by getting a quick briefing on the ins and outs. My ex-wife dealt with a bunch of unprofessional ridiculous behavior as a waitress, and she worked at Chili's. That is a national chain with a corporate HR department that should limit that sort of shit. My take is that even these chain restaurants have this mix of young untrained workers in the kitchen and waitstaff that need adequate management, and horribly unprofessional (or worse) management that aren't capable or don't care about keeping a professional work environment. I was kind of blown away that corporate would be willing to bear the risk of having such poor managers. It was a lawsuit landmine, but I think most of the employees just quit when faced with unfair and or illegal treatment. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

KJU biggest risk doesn't come from the US, the west, or the outside world. His risk is that he will be overthrown. The nuke program, the crazy rhetoric, is all about pandering to his base. Kind of like another man with small hands and a bad haircut. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P

Coffin Nail - the ultimate in main closing pin technology.
DougH replied to DougH's topic in Gear and Rigging
Your assumption would be wrong, unfortunately. It was not tested in any sense. A prototype of was sloppily machined, it was sloppily tied on to an existing bridle with a curved pin, and was jumped a handful of times. In my mind testing requires set criteria, data points that you are evaluating, and an objective review of the results. They require repetition and enough quantity to allow statistical patterns to arise. If you count those jumps as test jumps then I would assume would number no more than 100-150 life to date, and no more that 50 before it was held out for sale. The designer has shown other patterns of inconsistent data, like coming back from an injury and time away from the sport with the enough jumps to get a D license. So I personally wouldn't take any test data you could get your hands on with a grain of salt, and a heavy dose of professional skepticism. It doesn't really solve any problems, real or otherwise. It was a stupid fucking idea when I first saw it, and everyone gave advice to that point. Multiple riggers gave similar feedback. It was a stupid idea, but now that it is being sold AND PURCHASED it is a really stupid flat out dangerous idea. Hence my motivation for my post. The same shit that is on the website. One of the arguments for example was "tandem students can't push your pin out now while they are messing with your gear". Thank god, because that has happened to me every weekend for the past 11 years. Goddamn tandem students! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

I can only speak to how it performs as a grommet damager, it does that part very well. Anecdotally we can assume that it functions at keeping a container closed, and usually will let it open. But there is already a time tested part that does that without nearly a many trade-offs. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

Practically; yes. Actually, no; you could pull-out a curved pin. It would be more difficult, but possible. I'm of the: A specific tool for a specific task school of thought. I do not use my bartacker to sew on binding tape. Jerry Baumchen Thanks Jerry! But it was a joke! Kind of like the original product under debate. It sort of becomes a pull out after you tow your pilot chute on a hop and pop, Pull outs have to be straight pins, right??! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

Just round bar stock with a notch ground in to it, presumably for loop retention, and a machined slot to allow a rigger to sew it on a bridle. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

DougH replied to DougH's topic in Gear and Rigging
Do you really think that thing has been thought through properly. It was a hack job concocted by someone whose only experience with gear is putting it on his back. The only people who objectively evaluated the product and all of the potential risks told the "designer" that the idea had major flaws. I think it is pretty safe to say that no fucks were given. Read that product description in the context that it isn't a joke. That is seriously the marketing spin this guy is putting on this. Then stop and consider that this person has instructor ratings and is interacting with student skydivers!!! "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

DougH replied to DougH's topic in Gear and Rigging
I never saw it jumped because we wouldn't let that shit get in our airplanes. The prototype had already started damaging the top grommet after only a handful of claimed jumps. It was tied on the bridle because the designer has no rigging experience and couldn't sew at the time. The original curved pin was still there, it may have been tied on there. The prototype was sawing through the line that tied it on due to sharp edges. Yeah it has been "tested". But not in a gear manufacturer sense. A handful of jumps. Not thousands, and with no objective evaluation of the "test results". "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P -

No it isn't a joke. I saw the prototype in person a few years back. I told the "designer" that it was a horrible idea, and broke down a number of the issues. No fucks were given. It really is for sale, and there really have been a few chuckleheads that have purchased it. "The restraining order says you're only allowed to touch me in freefall" =P
