  1. Congrats (again) Schlomo! I'd guess there aren't many in the world with 10K tandem jumps. Been a pleasure to share the air with you a coupla times. Now...get back here and set another milestone; FLY A WINGSUIT!
  2. Storm Silhouette Sabre 1/2 Spectre Pulse Pilot All great. I'd recommend against higher wingloading and elliptical canopies, although there are a few guys that manage them just fine. In a bigger suit...you're gonna spin up from time to time.
  3. Someone else picked up on this too; it was posted to a Facebook group earlier this month. If the police report and news stories are believable, there was plenty of time to pull the ad, but I'll bet Aerodyne had no idea.
  4. except for the rendering speed, and for the more efficient AVC decoder (not AVCHD) it's pretty much the same tool. Has some terrific optimizations and some sweet new tools (including some killer render engine stuff for the guys that have high end video display cards) and some new tools, but the basics of tandem vids won't benefit a lot from the new, higher end tools. It is scary faster tho, with a higher end card (spendy).
  5. That alone indicates the biggest part of your problem. You're compressing media and then recompressing it. Encode it for DVD straight from the timeline. The Vegas encoder is the same encoder (exactly, no mods at all) used by Sony Pictures Digital for commercial DVD encodes. Same one that comes in the BluPrint software, too (20K$ package) In other words, it's a very good encoder unless you spend $$ up for Cinemacraft. But...the templates aren't optimized for AVCHD to DVD, especially in PAL. Takes some customizing to make them great starting with project settings.
  6. If you hit up YouTube, you can find a bunch too. http://www.youtube.com/user/VASSTTraining
  7. I had a really witty response, but then realized you're probably serious in your question.
  8. we archive the raw, the project, and finished file. Much safer, faster, and easier. We don't say anyting about backups. We force the video flyers to format their cards before each jump.
  9. Yet I'll bet you don't advocate a student rear-float-with-coach-inside exit from an Otter or other aircraft, right? That's what spawned this conversation in the first place.
  10. we archive everything. And charge to access the archive. This year, I'd suppose we've had 10-15 call back about a lost DVD, dog ate it, can't find it, can you make me a new one?
  11. Gonna be a ball. Unfortunately, scheduled students mean I can't come this year, but am sending a couple suits with one of our coaches. Have a blast!
  12. there are a couple of DZ's out there looking at USB-only delivery. Cheaper, one mechanical device, customer gets a small bonus, speedy, and can be used as a playback device too.
  13. Could be myriad things. Any antivirus running (always first place to look) Other apps running in the background? Change the RAM thread to 0 unless you have a bunch of stills. Might be other buses doing other things, too.
  14. FWIW, both my CYPRESII-equipped rigs failed/would not post on a hot day when the temp of the room they were stored in exceeded 118 degrees. The Vigil-equipped rigs were fine. I don't know at what point heat has an impact on the Vigil units. One of my three Vigil rigs is older but has been updated. The others are brand new. Both CYPRES and Vigil claim an operating temp of around 70c; it was nowhere near 150+degrees in the teamroom when the AADs failed.
  15. Don't forget that it's around 4K in altitude, too. That super cool 120 flies a little faster there.
  16. Pulling in full flight is like RW in the mantis position. It's something you do after you learn to fly stable on your belly and learn to pull from a closed-up position. I'd doubt you had a flat spin, but more of an auger. Other than intentionals, never yet seen one in a small suit on the belly. Did you get video? That would be useful. Who did your FFC?
  17. Blu-ray players are the ONLY way to deliver HD on disc, whether on a standard DVD or a BD disc. You can burn HD to a standard disc (very easy in DVD Architect) but they cannot be played on anything but a Blu-ray compliant player, ie; PS3 or Blu-Ray set top player.
  18. nice stuff. I'd sure caution you guys to re-think putting smoke on the right foot tho.... Seen a go-pro foot entanglement that wasn't pretty.
  19. Spot focus on hard contrast from 6' away should make this problem go away from you. Using infinity doesn't work so well with the small HD cams because of the sensor size.
  20. Just drink the cool-aid and get an iPhone... I did. It doesn't work in most of the places I go, even on the same carrier. And I have a wrist band holder for my Droid so I can watch how-to videos during an AFF jump.
  21. This is my fave pic of Robyn; there is some private humor between she and I in this photo. It was a memorable day.
  22. If Jarno gets superknackered to where he's sick again, he'll be singing soprano.
  23. Peeps coming from Brazil, Japan, EU, and of course, the USA so far. Keep those cards and letters coming kids.
