don't forget rentalcars.com, too

Thanks. Got no pics of me in the air as usually no one at our dz apart from me flies a camera with a wing suit. I am headed to Lake Elsinore soon so maybe then. Would be my treat.

old news, law has always been in effect, a Senate bill has been introduced to find new ways of enforcing and supporting existing law. By allowing it for so long, it's effectively destroyed the value of the original law (If you make it illegal to do something but don't enforce it, it becomes selective enforcement, which is just as bad/worse than breaking the original law, IMO. Here is the actual proposal: "Amends the federal criminal code to provide for imprisonment for up to 5 years, a fine, or both, for criminal infringement of a copyright where the offense consists of 10 or more public performances by electronic means, during any 180-day period, of one or more copyrighted works and where: (1) the total retail value of the performances, or the total economic value of such performances to the infringer or to the copyright owner, would exceed $2,500; or (2) the total fair market value of licenses to offer performances of those works would exceed $5,000. Includes, within copyright provisions protecting works from criminal infringement, the public performance of a work being prepared for commercial distribution."

Opposite. Affects larger canopies less. The "I really felt it" comment had me thinking you liked it, and wondered why.

With post-processing, any camera can be made to look pretty darn good. Especially when shot at p60... Low light still sucks, but the improvements (due to stiff competition) are pretty nice.

Might as well go after the DPRE, too. Jumper should have checked for his own misrouted bridle. Jumper should have set his own brakes on the ground. Jumper should have opened the slider and cocked the PC on the ground. Packer should check that these things are done. Jumper should change out their own closing loop, provide a closing loop, or ask the packer to change it out and then not bitch when it's the wrong length. A packer that consistently packs chops, hard openings, or line twists will lose customers very fast.
-
Fully agree. With 5 rigs of my own often being used by wingsuit students, there have been a few chops over the years. The borrower/user know they'll be paying for any lost gear and repack. And have, in every instance. Yesterday, a visiting packer misrouted a bridle that resulted in a container lock. The jumper paid for his reserve re-pack, as (I believe) he should. Folks now know to avoid that packer in the future.

Mirko Buholzer, Ke-aloha Dime, Shane Sandler...super inspirational work, terrific job this week. Three new graduates of the Phoenix-fly Coach Course! Ke and Shane may be found at Eloy; Mirko is in the Bay area. [edited to add photo] Photo also shows Darren Burke (PFC) Jose Calderon (PFC) Joel Hindman (PFC) Matt Santa-Maria (PFC) Ed Cummings (Fast Ed here on DZ.com) and Bret Kistler. Fun weekend, especially the flying VJ with double rear entry and smoke.

Jim Hickey started after 60, he's got at least 3500 jumps...has even been BASEJumping and wingwalking. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4eYJH3bRnUg I'm looking forward to Pat Morehead's 80 jumps on his 80th birthday next month

you might have disabled FX in the Preview Window....look at the "half moon" icon in the preview window and see if it's enabled. BTW, if you're correcting for low light in aircraft, use Curves for better results. If you're correcting for gamma, then I'd use Levels.

an 11.5' bridle? Even with the 32' PC, it seems drag would be a worry. I've only seen one bridle longer than 10' (with 32") and somewhere here, I posted a photo of it knotted up. So you're suggesting that for small/high loaded canopies, the long bridle with bigger PC is preferable?

Is the Nationals something to go and watch?
DSE replied to guineapiggie101's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
it's a good extension of your DZ social life, folks at Nationals would enjoy meeting you and you'd certainly enjoy meeting them (plus seeing some of your local friends). I think you'd enjoy the atmosphere, and maybe do a tandem jump while you're there. Very cool DZ. -
Advice on removal of nail/rod from leg?
DSE replied to repcool's topic in Skydivers with Disabilities
Get it out if you can. Years later, you'll be very, very grateful for your wise decision. It's not meant to be inside you..., IMO. [just noticed you did get it removed. Wise call] -
Beautiful what those RED's can do, isn't it?

No longer than 9', because the bridle then becomes a big drag and introduces its own problems. Somewhere here I've posted photos of a 12' bridle and problem a visitor had. I use a 30" in three of my rigs, 27" in one, and 32" in another. All rigs have been jumped with Xbirds, Venoms, V4, Phantoms, Ghost 3. I don't find a significant diff between any of the various bridle sizes. In other words, 27" or larger, IMO. FWIW, coupled with the semi-stowless, dynamic corners/cut corners, 9' bridle, openings are generally beautiful. Unlike most WS, I don't pack grommet-up. I do put my lines to the "back" of the tray vs the bottom of the tray, but with the semi-stowless, I don't do that much any longer either. ~Gerhard, it's interesting that a collapsible is required in Switzerland for wingsuiting. Can you tell us more? Any other wingsuit-specific requirements/restrictions?

Two methods of similar variety are shown in this video.

Early reports on the price's are putting it in the $6800 range... you planning to pick one up? Where do you see the 5D line going? I was hoping that they might switch out sensors to the Foveon type sensors with this upgrade... but alas they just threw more horse power at it. Quite successfully from the looks of the specs though!

Matt, there are options. I have 9' with 31" on the shelf at S'nore, RI offers them pre-built, Eric Gallan offers them custom-made to order, and UPT has them too. I'm sure that Mirage offers them; shop around.

Just water? Have you jump to the water from a boat? Easy money..... Have you jump to the water from a boat going by 20+ knots? You got a nice chance to break your neck and drown. Read in context, it's pretty easy to understand that Jarno was saying "Chris upstaged Jeb and did it without a million$$ slide."

Yea...and the best way to assist in case of a heartattack is just for everyone to not have one. But still CPR is a vallueable thing to know. You're quite full of usefull information lately... I saw a drunken duck floating in the water fountain last week.

Stolen Re-Programmed Cypress AADs May Fire Unexpectedly
DSE replied to PWScottIV's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
http://www.jud2.ct.gov/crdockets/CaseDetail.aspx?source=Pending&Key=0debfa3c-7099-4152-b262-dd939dbc6af3 According to the courts page, it's still awaiting plea (set for November 8). -
We do get a lot of requests a year out. Additionally, archiving is so cheap...it's more expensive, IMO, to selectively archive. We use off-board SATA drives, backed up weekly (mondays) one drive for stills, one for video, until they're filled. Then the drive is locked, labeled with white gaffer tape labeled with the archival dates. BTW, with a media manager...we can look for those sorts of metatags when they're inserted (they occasionally are) but you're right...takes a lot of discipline and isn't valuable for tandem-only footage. We do archive the AFF footage with metatags tho. But...that doesn't mean there isn't a better way. Great discussion, keep those ideas flowing.

the helmet doesn't appear in the picture, but the right side mount is a bit of a concern.
