  1. FCPX is faster, but a slightly steeper learning curve. Premiere is a tad slower, but a lesser learning curve, more of a traditional approach to editing video. Both allow for templated (but not automated) file processing. Me...I'm a Premiere fan on the Mac. No bullshit, just straight ahead work.
  2. Jack Guthrie (DPRE) Joel Allred Fish Faris Alaboudy (desertdevil here on DZ.com) All very good, current, trustworthy people. There are several riggers in SLC area, but not all of them are great.
  3. Klaus has kindly provided us with a free viewer for Flysight tracks. http://www.jumplog.net/ Just D&D a FS .csv file on the button or click the button for file selection. File will be uploaded automatically. The chart will open automatically on successful upload. 3D track viewing is available through the GE/Google Earth button in the upper right - same way to get back. The link to the track can be emailed via the button to the left. Tracks will be erased after 24 hours. If you want to keep a copy of the track from the viewer, simply make a screenshot. Thanks, Klaus/Paralog!
  4. I'd guess that makes you a Chinese person who has been flying WS for at least 3 years longer than the OP?
  5. WTF have the Texans done to you? Umm...you planning for a bazooka in there? Is that Lassi's old set up?
  6. Like I said, have twice seen kicks to the videographer. Also have a video of a very dear friend being hit in the back of the head by a lurker that got "sucked in" the trapdoor. There is a pic of a tens-of-thousands of jumps skydiver caught in the TD too...somewhere here on DZ.com. It can happen to anyone, and if you're in that "kill zone," you only have yourself to blame. Yeah, I cringed. I think we must all do that. Watching videographers watch other videos is like watching a bunch of puppies tracking a moth....their heads just involuntarily move to what they feel the shot should be, or at minimum, they mimic the moves of the camera guy.
  7. It's common sense to not be directly in front of, slightly below a tandem at deployment time. Twice have seen camera flyers kicked by a TD student at deployment. I'd much rather be quartered and drop with them, or quartered to the side, slightly above to catch the deployment and opening, rolling over on my back to catch the flyaway.
  8. The "letter" of the law is specific for USPA dropzones, and for any USPA rating holder on or off a USPA dropzone. No wingsuit before 200 jumps. Doesn't say that you get into a wingsuit at 25 jumps, show up at a USPA DZ with 160 WS jumps, and jump. It means 200 jumps, minimum. The "spirit" of the law is to protect people from themselves, and for instructors, S&TAs, and DZOs to protect themselves as well as protecting others. I'd be happy to make 40 coach jumps with him/her, in a tracking configuration. We'd celebrate their 201st jump in a wingsuit jump. FWIW, merely having an FFC doesn't cut it for many DZs that have active WS programs; we want to see that one was given a proper FFC. There is a lot more to WS than merely getting out of a plane without hitting the tail.
  9. The GP uses a codec based on mpeg. Not all systems have the proper software to read/decode the stream, but it is very easy to d/l from the GP website. Missing the codec won't give the user choppy video; it will give them audio w/out video. If the video is displaying and is choppy, it could be due to a wide variety of reasons, ranging from anti-virus to background app operations to slow CPU to slow/chunky drive.
  10. Funny you should mention that...I ran into one of those 60 jump wonders here; he wasn't happy that he couldn't fly a WS here, even though he has nearly 100 WS jumps.
  11. I'm not sure why it matters, but there have been at least four Chinese skydivers come through our school as far back as 3 years ago. We have a small group of Chinese that come here regularly. One of them came with his own Intro wingsuit before the IBird came out, so it's been quite a while back. In Spain, they have different rules; even though they are a USPA Group Member, they teach people to wingsuit at 100 jumps, so if he did his AFF in Spain, he easily could have hit 100 jumps within a months time if he has the money and good weather at his back.
  12. Never had it either ;) but I'm willing to try this for science, shits and giggles... Sunday, anyone at Elsinore can come dock at me and pull my arm release ;) see what happens... Game on! Kevlar, you take left, I'll take right. We'll see if we can make Tom wingless! I'll bet it's a lot harder than it sounds.
  13. Hey gang, get your competitive game on; The Second Artistic Comp is happening at Skydive Elsinore on May 18/19 2013. Last year, we saw some serious bad-ass flying from a number of teams. There were even a couple pickup teams that did very well.
  14. SM1-V4 are apples/oranges. What do you want to achieve in WS flight? Are you a social/flocker flyer? An aerobatic flyer? Solo person looking for speed? Solo person looking for float/hang time? There are dragsters and there are Cadillacs, there are drift cars and there are muscle cars. None are suited for the same tracks/roads.
  15. FWIW, over approx 300 Level 7 (Intro to docking) jumps, never once has this been even remotely close to an issue (newbie grabbing a cutaway). Never had a newb grab a gripper, either. I'm sure it's *possible* but highly unlikely. Has anyone ever experienced a newbie accidentally pull a cutaway cable on a dock?
  16. Having two school units in at SSK right now, I'm wondering if they'll do the repair while it's in for the 4 year? Also wondering if it will delay return. So..if you bought a new unit, either send in now for 'update' and spend how much? Or, check every jump for the next four years?
  17. It's a very good suit. It's not quite as smooth as the newer series suits, but it's also a little less twitchy, too. I have one and fly it from time to time. The SM1 is similar to a Ghost. Not all SM1 are the same, there was a period where they seemed to be constantly being adjusted. Can fly quite fast if you know how to use your body. I've never flown one of the EG suits, but they do appear to be well-made.
  18. It really doesn't matter one way or another what the USPA says. What matters is what a DZO wants. USPA doesn't own the dropzone, therefore anything they say is merely an endorsement.
  19. If you look closely at the field, you can see an irrigation ditch that is in the flight/landing path.
  20. Click on the chart. You can see his linetwists.
  21. Mounts are the same. Housings are different. Unless you buy a GP3/Black, it's not worth the extra vs buying a GP2, IMO. Most of the bugs are worked out, and if you're simply looking for video of skiiing, you'd be happy with either one.
  22. ... It's someone else' logbook I electronically signed for _them_. Here is the actual logbook.
  23. That's just BULLSHIT, I will defy ANYONE to show me where my "E" log does not cover the requirements of the USPA, BPA or APF. (dont know if any retarded organisation actually states PAPER is required) Squeak, find FAR or organizational rule that says you can't jump a rig with a tunnel cover over it when you exit the plane. But I'll bet no DZO would allow it. Many DZ's require paper. Some even have a photocopy of a logbook page under their counter that they'll hand you to fill out in front of them.
