  1. Mine took just a few days longer than a month. About 35-38 days.
  2. Wonder if there is a running mate story in there?
  3. For me personally, I can't *stand* to look at anything 4:3 any more. Yeah, I know skydiving lends itself better to 4:3, but... I don't have any experience with the 350, and very little with the 1000, so can't offer any input on the longevity of either one. You can always create widescreen in post by either cropping or stretching, but you do lose resolution using either method. Wish I could give you more intelligent feedback on this one.
  4. Gotcha. I misunderstood earlier. The nice thing about the Tonfly system (and apparently the German system too) is that you can pitch the camera at different angles for tandem or freefly, and it's flush when you remove the camera. You could *easily* build your own system to do this, if you're into DIY stuff. It's just a pivoted centerpoint with a secondary lock. Making it perfectly flush might be a bit of a challenge, however.
  5. Helmet entanglements are not limited to tandem camera flyers. IMO, a cutaway is imperative for anyone flying a camera.
  6. We exclusively use large Kensington trackballs on all our editing systems. We replace the ball that comes with the Kensington with a billiard ball. My personal choice is the 8 ball. Not only does it allow for very tight precision and speed in a small/fixed area, it also greatly reduces risk of carpal tunnel. We have at least 50 Kensington Expert Mouse Pro's, I get a little frustrated when I'm traveling with my laptop and don't have my trackball.
  7. Lightweight, multiple mounting options, sturdy, solid connection between chin and back of skull, dual audible pockets, trustworthy cutaway, wide enough to mount multiple devices on top, flush mounting system, easy removal of gear, tight fit without discomfort, smooth enough to avoid/deflect snags, narrow enough to help avoid riser strike, cheaper than a laptop. I don't think anyone has every feature I'd like to see, outside of the custom jobs like Matt Hoover and others have made ala Wes Rich. Even then, I can think of things I wish were different.
  8. Had they not changed the card, I'd have been much more interested. I understand why they did, but geez...how many cards do I gotta carry?
  9. Then she'll have garlic breath for Valentine's Day. That's not very romantic! Nah...it's not heavy, it just adds a touch of bite. Just as easy to put peppermint in place of garlic. Peppermint is romantic, no?
  10. IMO, if you haven't cooked lobster before...it might be a tough one. Easy to cook the second time, but not so easy the first. I'm a huge lover of lobster, but they're better sent in from Maine rather than bought at Walmart/Costco/big box (IMO). If seafood is the theme, King crab legs are super easy, and can be served cold or hot with drawn butter, and it's kinda fun to serve your partner with dripping clarified butter on the fingers, warm crab meat..and it won't make your house smell the way boiled lobster will (I prefer my lobster boiled, starting with live lobster into salted boiling water). Small red potatoes go really well with crab, and those are also hard to mess up, as is asparagus, which also compliments king crab. You can have the crab split at the store if it isn't already split (most are). Crab cooked with lemon wedges are great. Dipping them in cheap white wine before cooking adds another tang that I really like. Poke holes in large potatoes, and soak em' in garlic and butter water, then rolled in almonds and bacon before baking are one of my faves. Prawns also go well with warm crab. Can you tell I'm a crab fan?
  11. Be certain you count Jan as staying on the board in the process of making change. She is a voice desperately needed on the board, IMO. A few of the board members you meet online or through the printed word of Parachutist are not the same board members you meet in person. Jan is the same online, in print, and in person. That's rare, and we're fortunate to have her voice.
  12. Do they need a license to Xfer weapons to a destructive facility or Xfer firearms to another facility that might be responsible for detailing serials prior to destruction or other administrative use??
  13. Nope. Spent time on kill floors as a young person, and have butchered dozens of my own animals, at least one or two sheep or calves a year.
  14. I don't disagree, the bigger point (badly made) was that she's claiming he was influenced by a corporation who benefitted from her co-sponsorship of the legislation. Incidentally, check out this picture. Notice the guy on the far right. Either Hillary just broke wind, or he's not buying what she's saying.
  15. Interesting that she still won't give up her tax returns and then calls Obama on the carpet for his nuclear legislation (that she also sponsored).
  16. You're right, of course, I guess I meant valid USPA membership #. I always forget that number when I go to DZ's, but always remember my license number. I guess I put em' (mentally) in the same category. Either way, there is a "tracking number" that USPA has for use to prevent paper napkins vs photocopied ballots vs actual printed ballots.
  17. Sounds like a good plan, working the ground, learning how the camera functions, understanding shutter, aperture, composition are all things many camera people don't seem to understand. Learning those things on the ground is the best way to figure it out, IMO. I'd also suggest that when you do put the camera on your head, you start with video, then work stills into your jump later on, or vice versa, but don't attempt to do both at the same time. That was the advice I received early on, and it was good advice, IMO.
  18. I understand the "why" of it, but for all these years that a paper ballot accompanied by a valid license number, I still feel a paper napkin should be allowed as a ballot. In the very rare (if it's ever existed) situation of two ballots coming in with the same license number, then either the Elections committee could toss the ballot, or better yet, make an inquiry about the ballot(s) that. Our organization isn't so large that it would be a common occurrence, but I can imagine that with all the license numbers posted here on DZ.com and elsewhere, it wouldn't be that hard to fake a ballot. Then again, it still isn't that hard to fake a ballot, just grab a few parachutists laying around the DZ, and look up license numbers in the back of Parachutist from the past year.
  19. Were it mine...I probably would have cropped more so that the viewer knows the subject is the kitty. If the intent is to show the kitty in an environment, another option is to get closer to the subject, leaving the aperture cranked down with a slow shutter, and the background will be in focus along with the subject. As Squeak mentioned, the Rule of Thirds or Diagonals would help your kitty show off a bit better. Colors are really nice and saturated. What settings did you use, I can't tell in the resized image.
  20. That's wild. Last I'd heard, he'd become a basketball coach.
  21. I would have liked to have been. Between fighting with the airline about my return ticket, and being needed for a camera problem elsewhere...it sort of ate my day. It was terrific sitting with you, Krissanne, JP, everyone else for lunch (and seeing you guys at Zhills), I wish I'd arranged my Sunday better. Overall, I've got to say that I was mildly disappointed in the board process, having attended a lot of these in the past, but also understand that this session was likely quite different from others.
  22. You'd probably do better starting another thread... My experiences are on my skydiving blog if you care to read them, but the short answer is that if I didn't pay attention to what I was doing, line twists were part of 4-6 jumps. Once I started paying attention...I haven't had line twists in a long time. Strange, same thing happened with my first rig, I had probably a dozen jumps in a row with line twists. Turned out to be the way I was packing. In other words, the wingsuit won't cause problems, IMO, it's your body position IN the wingsuit that might cause problems. Yet another reason (IMO) that you should: ~wait til you have the recommended # of jumps ~wait til you can get a solid, well-informed first jump course from a qualified instructor.
  23. Then let me be the first to congratulate you! Did you celebrate with pie and beer?
