  1. AFAIK, there isn't anything that you can edit M2T without a licensed copy of the software (Premiere, Canopus, Pinnacle, etc) because the MPEGLA group requires a paid license for use of the MPEG decoder. Therefore, no one I'm aware of, puts a decoder in their trialware. Tools like Womble, etc can do cuts-only, but nothing that is an NLE as far as I'm aware.
  2. Are you running a demo/trial version of Vegas Pro 8? Cuz you need a key to open MPEG media.
  3. Within the next 30 days, you will see a control for the CX7, selling for less than 100.00, that has features that skydivers have never dreamed of. Or maybe only dreamed of, but will have access to for the first time. You'll realize how weak the LANC protocol is (and it's for tape-based systems only).
  4. Love your comics in there each month, Steve!
  5. An awesome musical soul, and a wonderful, gentle person...was very sad to hear of his passing.

OIS is more a problem for freeflyers than for belly flyers. I have no issues with OIS when flying for tandems or the comparitively little four-way work, but if I'm freeflying, the burble, particularly on a flat-top, can be a problem. However, most of that problem is me, not the camera. EIS offers a loss in resolution but is smoother for high-vibration situations.
  7. not only do I use the Raynox .5, but moving away from any wide-angle. I'd just as soon have no wide if possible for tandems. The jump (IMO) is about the student, and I'd like to hand them a video with zero perspective distortion. Been playing with that a lot lately. There are a couple of photographers whose work I tremendously admire, and they're not using wides for tandems nor for a lot of other work. Problem without using a wide is keeping smooth motion, and for me, that's the killer at the moment, that prevents me from jumping without a wide on a paid jump.
  8. You will obliviate all value of HD using a standard SD lens. Depending on the lens, you could be seeing as little as 180 lines of res at the center, and half that at the edges! If you're shooting tandems, the Century .6 or the Raynox 5050 are my picks for quality images. they're bigger, particularly the Raynox, but you're getting 600 lines, which is impressive. I have an article on this subject coming up, FWIW. VCL-HG0737C is a pretty poor lens, although it's better than their SD lens in the same accessory selection.
  9. I mostly work from home (offices in basement), so do I get the two points? yeah, Jarno, suit is baggy. I'll put it on with my rig when I arrive at the DZ, and see if that makes a difference, but right now, I can fit two fists inside the neck, and the sleeves cover my hands past my knuckles.
  10. This question is one for Sangiro, I haven't checked to see if the YouTube code will work, but imagine it will, or you can upload to YouTube, or better yet, upload it here. Regarding copyrighted music; most folks here know where I stand on the subject, but this is Sangiro's contest, and I'm not going to be paying attention to copyrighted vs non-copyrighted music for this contest, as it's not part of the rules. Regarding BASE content vs skydiving, this is an amateur skydiving film festival, not a BASE film fest. Perhaps basejumper.com needs a film fest?
  11. Was able to chase down the UPS package today, glad to receive my Blade.
  12. Looks like next weekend, weather permitting. We would have been jumping this weekend, had we known the weather was holding at 50. Me? I'm heading south for the weekend.
  13. A super broad answer: Wide aperture=shallow depth of field Narrow aperture=broad depth of field. You can download many free DOF (Depth Of Field) calculators based on Java. Google circle of confusion, or better still, come see me at the DZ. Bring your camera. http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/dof2.shtml has a good picture set on the subject.
  14. You likely couldn't find anything because Sony calls Firewire "i-Link." Yes, both cams are i-Link/Firewire/1394 capable. If the camcorder has the "DV" logo on it, it's required to have a 1304 port on the camcorder.
  15. CHECK IT OUT Yeah, I'm yelling, wanna be sure it gets heard. Send the word. Great prizes, hoping to see some monster masterpieces from y'all!
  16. knock yer self out, JP! Hope it's as great as it sounds.
  17. Based on that song selection, I've gotta ask if you're *sure* you're ready for marriage?
  18. I don't have the EXIF plug, but it should show the file info properly in both Pshop and Aperture, and you guys are getting it...I can see it on the PC side of my MacBook, but can't see it on the Apple side. Very strange. Thanks for the point to EXIFViewer. Wasn't familiar with that one.
  19. A B-roll camera is secondary imaging for shots that can be cut to from an interview or primary source shot. Think of it as a "second camera" shooting whatever is going on around the subject. True... But, another equally valid B-roll is when the primary camera is used to pick up "b-roll" video, which typically is not the primary action. Which is why I said "secondary imaging" and not "secondary camera." B-roll, by SMPTE definition, is "B-roll or B roll is supplemental or alternate footage intercut with the main shot in an interview or documentary." At one moment, Jeff's cam may be primary, ground cam B-roll, and at other times, ground cam is primary, Jeff's cam is B-roll, and during a live shoot, any cam that isn't designated primary, is a B-roll camera whether it is cut to or not. In most of those situations, tape, HDD, or BD is rolled to capture the images for later use. Now that we've thoroughly confused everyone with the technical jargon There were at least 3 XDCAM HD cams rolling on the ground, and I believe at least one XDCAM EX. I don't know what else was there, but I'm fairly certain the producer would have called for at least two subjective angles in addition to the primary stack, all of that in addition to Jeff's live feed. They sure had a budget for this one. I hope Jeb gets his $$, cuz he sure is earning it.
  20. Only gonna cost that much if you make it yourself.
  21. Howard, how did you grab the cam settings? File info wasn't showing up on my PShop or Aperture?

  23. I may be making a bad assumption that if Mark knows about aperture, shutter speed, white balance, etc, then he likely knows as well that the LCD brightness can be changed/off/inaccurate. both images have been modified and had the data stripped out, so can't tell how each was taken. Mark, Dave's right; if you're judging ONLY by the screen on your camera, and you're not really familiar with exposure, shoot a few in auto modes, get the feel of it, and see how close those shots match what your computer screen is. From there, you should easily know if you need to calibrate or not.
  24. they had several B-roll cams going, hopefully they'll release, or allow others to access, some of the B-roll content.
