  1. with the right sound card, he can route whatever sounds to wherever he wants. Skype could be configured to one output, movie to another, Windows to yet another (although i don't know if Skype can be separate from Windows, because they share the same library and prolly don't have drivers to support channeled outs), but... if you want surround sound AND separated audio outs... ferget it. Ain't gonna happen, even with a Rosetta.
  2. haven't experienced it myself, but have talked to a few former CamEye owners...it's not the most stable chipset in the world. Mine got zapped early on because it was stupidly mounted in a bad place on my helmet, so I ended up with a different brand indicator.
  3. Some options: Set an output on a 5.1 output to each of the two areas, and then mix in your Windows audio mixer to which ever set you want. Outside of that, you'd need to purchase an audio splitter, or bigger/more capable multiple channel sound card such as one of the M-Audio or Echo cards.
  4. He's wrong. There is a schedule for the cameras. Perhaps as a retailer, his buyer opted to not purchase more, but the CX7 is FAR from being discontinued. Costco just took delivery of 8,000 of them nationwide, and I'm told that seriously depleted warehouse stocks...dunno if that's so, but they're not discontinued
  5. I'm not an AFFI. Started down that road last season, and an incident caused me to re-think whether I'm mentally prepared to be in that slot but... One comment made to me by more than one I/E, is that as an instructor, you "absolutely, positively will find yourself in a position where you can't get to your student as quickly as you should..." etc, yet Bill's post implies that this may not be true. However, with another individual involved, gut response tells me that it's absurd to think you can be 100% on every jump with every student? It's because I can't truthfully answer myself with a satisfactory value, that I've decided to back off my initial goal for the time being. 6 hours of freefall isn't enough to know much, IMO, even if most of them are relative work jumps. So to the original point, maybe the program is too easy, but I don't know if I could pass it right now. but I consider myself relatively talented and exceptionally current.
  6. Last year, we tacked on $125.00 for HD delivery, and it was only on BD disc, because AVCHD wasn't supported in all the players, and BD discs are damned expensive. This year, we're offering a $100.00 surcharge on top of the $65.00 video/$90.00 video/stills package, and there is no additional charge if they want it on BD or DVD 5, even though the BD disc does cost triple a standard DVD 5 (blanks are $7.50 in bulk). The difference is whether they want an authored DVD or not, but given that I have templates for both, neither is any difference in creative time, difference is in burn speed. BD is 4X, AVCHD is 16X. As far as the split, that hasn't been worked out for the 08' season, since I'm the only one with a BD burner, but I allow others access to it. I'm sure we'll settle it out once the season gets rolling. Already have orders for 7 BD discs this season, and we're not jumping yet.
  7. We have sold BD discs, starting last season. ~Customer must request BD in advance ~Premium charge on top of normal video fees ~Customer has choice of BD disc or AVCHD burned to DVD 5 ~We have both BD burners in PC and standard DVD burners in PC, either of which may be used depending on the request of the student/customer ~We've sold more BD discs than expected, but not enough to recover investment. I do believe we're the first DZ world-wide to offer BD? I'd be stunned/knocked over if there is *any* tandem op in the world using a switcher for HD. There is no low-cost switcher for HD at this time. Based on the number of phone calls I've received from various DZ's across the country (and a few out of country) everyone is already figuring out that HD delivery is the "next big thing." Offering it as a premium for the next two years is a big deal, IMO. It's more than just having an HD camcorder, however. And...for the $$ the customer is spending for a BD disc, I can't imagine trying to schlock one together using a realtime switch anyway. Maybe in a couple years when HD switchers are cheap and common, but til then...not gonna happen, I don't think.
  8. Sorry Mircan, Chuck Norris will never be as cool as Steven Seagal, because Steven knows me, but Chuck doesn't. The infant tights don't look too bad. Certainly not as bad as a doo-rag.
  9. Isnt' that the BASE'r? A BASE container on a Racer harness?
  10. Well...you could always go for the "mullet from hell" look, it's BOD approved, whatever that means. Chuck Norris is a midget compared to Steven Seagal. But in his old age, Steven's knees are pretty well fried from carrying his weight and height. And he cut off his long hair. Now he's "respectable." Another thing that works, BTW, is to get a pair of infant tights, about the same color as your hair. Cut the legs off, and put your ponytail in one of the legs, and band it to your hair. I've done that for years on my motorcycle.

    Robert B. Cook

Already being discussed Of all the accounts I've read, this recent article seems to have been the most "real." I'm very sorry for the losses of those left behind, yet this is one of those rare situations where there is an inspiration behind the incident. Clearly it's an inspiration that has had a marked impact felt worldwide.

Thanks. Rub it in for those of us stuck in the snow.

    Old story, new angle

A friend in Oz sent me this story; it may be an old story, but this particular accounting is powerful. "Robert Cook receives post-humous award."

    Sorry girls...

Congratulations, John and Sue. Many happy returns, and I hope you have a magical life together
  15. Advanced Metal (Evaporated) II=Second Generation Newer tape particle format that allows for a +4dB greater carrier signal, it allows for 80% greater error correction for HD signal. Been around for roughly 3 years in video, almost 5 years in data archiving. tough stuff, has a long shelf life. Not sure what else to say about it. I did find [url "http://www.sony.ca/storage/data/Pedal_to_the_Metal_Piece.pdf"this article[/url] Googling around. HTH?
  16. hey, if you haven't tried it... Sh** on a shingle is my comfort food, but I also like it with hard-boiled eggs, remove the yolk, then cut up the egg white part. Try it. Then tell me how much you like or dislike it. Then again, I like ketchup/catsup on my scrambled eggs, too.... And I was never in the Army.
  17. I prefer it with chunks of hard-boiled egg in place of the beef, but still good comfort-food.
  18. yeah, Steven is my hero. I'd rather suggest Steven is going for the DSE look.
  19. Where did you hear this? There are several BASE jumpers at our DZ and at a DZ north of us, maybe it's just this region, but BASE jumpers are treated no differently around here than skydivers are. Two of our T/I and AFFI's are BASE jumpers, one of them spends a lot of time taking beginning BASE jumpers to the Perrine Bridge to learn/experience their first BASE. Either way, learn about skydiving, being stable, deploying, landings before you worry much about BASE. It'll all come together soon enough. The bridges, cliffs, and other objects will still be there after you've learned the important things to jumping, flying, and landing safely. I see you're in the UK. I know at least one AFFI there who also is into BASE. PM me if you want details.
  20. Anything that says "AME II" on it. Brand matters not.
  21. Sounds like a YouTube revenue partner account is in order with that headline. Looking forward to reading/seeing the excitement. Wish I was there.
  22. I sure hope you bought it from the DSE Powerhouse I'd imagine if you have this display connected via composite only, it would look like shit. We don't have that same model here in the states, I don't know the US model. One thing to be also clear on...I didn't talk you up to the Sony. I'm just a fan of the Samsung-built OEM panels that the Bravia happens to have, and I happen to own 6 Bravias for both business and home use. Good stuff, but I'm pretty careful to not endorse any one brand of display. Camcorders, software, and lighting...yes. Displays? No. Anyway, get HDMI, or at the least high quality component, you should see a very sexy picture. [edit] If it's the model I think it is, be sure you calibrate it. Pirates of the Caribbean has calibration software built in, if you have that DVD.
  23. you'll appreciate the 100Hz refresh for motion smoothing. Congrats!
