    F$&k@rs!

What did? Glitter pussy??? Yeah, it kinda rolls off your tongue and makes you giggle like a 12 year old. It kinda really does. A roll of duct tape will clean that glitter dust off of everything, including the cat. Better than the vacuum, I bet
  2. The videos to Youtube are poor for a variety of reasons, bulletcam being the biggest one. You're feeding a DV cam (or so it appears) with a very low resolution image and DV is scaling it. It then appears you're rendering to a low bitrate WMV file, which doesn't help either. Rendering to an iPod format at 640 x 480 is very good for YouTube. Adding a tiny bit of luminance, and shifting the gamma (your bullet cam isn't calibrated) will help darken the darks, provide detail in the whites, and get rid of the washed out look. Very cool technology in that overlay!
  3. If it's just stills for Average Joe, I use the CD burning utility in Windows. If it's anyone else, I use the burning tool and a few other tweaks in Lightroom. From my laptop. Yeah, I have a couple backup cameras too. My HC3 has 500 jumps on it, and when it gets really cold up there, the touch screen seems to lock up (new behavior for an old cam), so I'm jumping my CX7 in those situations. I love the look of the HC3 too.
  4. The timeline is beautiful. Thanks for the link.
  5. Saskia, why does wide vs 4:3 give you more work?
  6. it's a mostly plastic body, no external control, and old-generation encoder. That seems like a good price, but I don't know that I'd want to be jumping with one if you want it to last for a while.
  7. A friend built me a very cool mudflap mount similar to his, it's like the Bonehead but made of ABS vs CF. I believe it would break off if it were hard-hit. It's also flexible. FWIW, I have an Optima in my helmet, and a wrist mount in addition to the mudflap. Very soon, I'll have a light as well, simply because it's a free feature on a new video product.
  8. As long as the JVC has manual focus, you'll be just fine. Your image might be a little soft, because your camera at wide may not reach the edges of the "cone" or where the glass is fully resolved, but for AFF, it will be just fine. You won't see vignetting, or shouldn't. At that large of a step-up, it's possible the JVC is wide enough to catch it, but I doubt it.
  9. And you don't want to use the rubber band? Which version of Premiere? Depending on the version, an audio transition should be dropped on the clip, aligned to the Out point. Or, double‑click the applied transition in the Effect Controls panel and choose "end at cut"{ You can also split the clip and use the rubber band
  10. I'm really looking forward to the Scarlet. Chances are, based on my existing/previous experience with RED, I won't buy one, but it is certainly interesting. it WON'T be a tandem vid camera, no matter how it's sliced. But... Hey Brooke, I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours
  11. I can absolutely, 100% positively tell you that a replacement/upgrade to the CX7 will NOT be forthcoming in 2 weeks.
  12. I had the opposite problem on my Tonfly...it was too tight. Ended up using small amount of nose oil to smooth it out. However, I've heard from a couple of other guys that they have had loose Zkull mounts too. Perhaps there was a bad/loose batch? You might try putting a small strip of teflon tape on the threads?
  13. They're not pretty dim, nor are they hard to see. Your eye does become accustomed to it, however, and eventually you somewhat start to ignore it. The bigger problem, IMO, with the LED display is how fragile it is. I broke two before giving up. I'm looking forward to a flexible alternative.
  14. No. Motion blur and cadence would appear differently at an identical shutterspeed and framerate. The two go hand in hand. Then again, most people aren't able to comprehend the difference between 30p and 60i, either, particularly when shot at high shutterspeeds, which this likely was (appears to be).
  15. Would you agree that the DZ involved would be part of that practice? The larger, busier DZ's might not have quite the same sense of "family" that a smaller 182 operation might have, and it seems to me that this would make a significant difference in how the DZ might react to a fatality. Same could be said for a boogie; there isn't the same sense of intimate "family" that the small DZ might have. Do these factors come into play for you? Or do you feel operations should be suspended regardless of the DZ?

  17. I'll be there too...but you don't want me flying anywhere near the base yet.
  18. I don't pretend to know much about propellers and engines. I do know a lot about shutter stutter on high speed objects regardless of framerate. Therefore, I'll retract my statement of "clearly shut down" and say that one propeller clearly has very little movement compared to the other propeller. Were it shutter stutter (effects) then you'd see both propellers appearing to be in perfect sync, although potentially at different positions, as the camera only has one shutterspeed, exposing both propellers at the same time, for the same length of time, at the same framerate (almost assuredly 60i).
  19. Nope. When Apple more or less abandoned development of Applescript, it killed our ability to do this. We wish we did/could easily do it, but the API just isn't developed.

    Ethical Question

When the DZO sells the rig to the newbie, not only is he entitled to making a profit on his time to find the rig, make the phone call, check it out when it arrives, and then sell it to the newbie, I feel he's also warranting to the newbie that it's a jumpable rig, being paid for his experience and knowledge, which benefits the newbie as he/she knows they are getting something that won't be unsafe in the air. Additionally, the DZO will more or less be providing support for the rig until the newbie figures it out. That too, will take time. Shouldn't he get some small compensation for this? If you didn't want to sell the rig at a 200.00 discount, there is nothing wrong with that, either. Seems to me tho, the DZO was being *very* ethical in trying to sell the student a rig at it's value, and asking you if you'd mind discounting it. Have you never asked for a discount on anything? Were you being unethical when you did?
  21. At 2:13 of the YouTube vid, the prop is clearly shut down, and at 1:10 of the other vid, it's not as clear that it's shut down, but it's also not a shutter stutter.
  22. Just by the question, I'm curious how "the whole community may benefit." DV is dead. Mini DV *is* DV. LANC is effectively dead. Questions about HD, file-base, storage, Xfer of data, wireless video Xmission, form factor, encoder, glass would perhaps be more future-looking? My list? ~Low MTF ~High bitrate encoder (20Mbps or faster) MP4 ~High bitrate encoder (35Mbps or faster) MP2 ~High speed CF or MSDP ~Zoom wider than 28mm (based on 35mm comparison). ~Progressive imager ~Framerates of 60p @ 1920 x 1080 ~x.v. color ~HDMI output ~Port to digitally Xmit data when within 2' of the computer (automatic). Must be high speed. ~37 or 52mm lens mount threads ~Optical ND filterset ~EIS or better, user-selectable stabilization ~Large memory buffer for slow motion recording (at least 3600 frames vs current 360 frames) ~OLED screen ~profile memories (one-touch and everything about the camcorder is set for the jump, ie; zoom, focus, colorspace, framerate, exposure) ~Low profile -due to focal length/width of HD, it's unlikely we'll see narrow, but tall camcorders for a long time if ever. Making the camera more low profile for top mount would be my own next priority. ~14bit internal processing ~EVF in addition to LCD panel ~Dual-stream record to web-friendly size/format ~mxf containers ~powered I/O ~external mic input ~$1200.00 USD or less SD video? haven't shot a frame of SD in about 3+ years, and the manufacturers have developmentally phased it out....
  23. Ultimate S makes slideshows (among other things).
  24. I've never done a wedding video, I don't think you could pay me enough. Brides, mothers of brides, etc. videouniversity.com is a site I frequent though, and it seems the average wedding is between 2 and 3.5K, but that's also work done by low-end professionals using lights, shooting pre-wedding stuff, and sometimes SDE's (same-day edits). skydivers are experts at SDE's though. I'd figure on paying myself around 20.00 an hour if this isn' your normal gig, or if you love the guy and want to give him a deal. JT, next time you need a slide show...my company makes software that can build a 10,000 slide show timed to music in about 30 seconds...complete with motion, panning, etc. Next time, call me. I'll help ya out.
