  1. What do you mean "it'll take me a while til I learn this??" You did GREAT w/the balloon vid, Ozzy. In that, you could have made you title screen after you'd set up your project, and that way the edges would n't be seen... Split screen: Track 2 has first video, use Track Motion (in the track header) to slide to left or right. Track 3 has second video, use Track Motion to slide to opposite side of above track. Track 1 has titles or whatever else. Very easy, very fast. Congrats!
  2. Naw, my "account" is still on a "firm" foundation and it would be "hard" to find fault with its "long" term health. This would suggest you've made some 'deep' investments, exercising careful judgement in 'flow' and market 'penetration.' However, as the 'account' matures, expect some 'significant shrinkage' in mutual value appreciation. You may need to 'prop' up your 'account value' with external 'stock.' Besides, 'diversifying' your investment account is a good thing, or so I'm told.
  3. Dave, I've looked at those pages in the past, but never the cameras. What an incredible resource! Thanks for providing it!
  4. Thanks for the pix, Scott. Sandy Reid's field rigging kit is sure sweet, I got a sneak-peek the day before he left for Spain. Makes me wish I wore camo pants just for the cool factor. Anything new from PD other than the GL canopies? Any word on how long the battery charge in the new Alti lasts?
  5. They did stop offering the wide plate, although it is on their website. I pretty much begged Linda for one, but I guess they're a PITA for them.
  6. Haven't used one, and can't really see how it's of use in freefall. Put into auto mode, it's shooting one frame a second, or 60 frames a minute at 1.5MP stored, although it has a 3MP sensor. No remote control. The mounting system looks like a very scary snag point, but if you were to build a mount that would accept it and protect it, it might work for casual shots between friends, but to use it for anything outside of that...my cell phone takes higher quality pix. Could be a fun thing though, if you're just looking for something cheap, and aren't looking for quality images. They're probably OK for the web, so long as they're small.
  7. Ebay Seriously, I found a LOT of options and opportunities on Ebay. Between Dragon, Bonehead, and various Ebay sources, plus a few other suppliers, I've burned through about 400.00 in CF this year, experimenting with different options. but a 9.5 x 10, allowing 1.5" on each side, rounded off, makes for a very nice helmet setup, IMO. One of the tops I made curves to the back so the rear half of the plate is matched perfectly to the helmet, but the front is wider.
  8. How many DVD standards do you currently have available? Just one, right? Everyone from consumers to content creators lose when there isn't a standard. I see this topic in the avsforums and can only laugh at it. It's an argument that is attributed to Sony-haters, but the truth is, 19 companies hold parts of the Blu-ray patent. Sony happens to be the biggest dog in the list, but Philips isn't too small, either. To use your analogy, you don't have much of a choice when it comes to the spigot in your car. But you can choose Mobil, Chevron, Phillips 66...but you don't get to choose the access to the gas tank. BD isn't a "no competition" format any more than DVD currently is. As a matter of fact, BD is even more competitive at the licensing end than any other format in history. MPEG LA still hasn't worked out all the licenses. And probably won't for some years. Standard DVD licensing took about 4 years, I imagine BD will take the same or longer. Honest, the sky didn't fall. HD DVD died 2 years ago, just that most people don't know that. Bill Gates saved it for any number of reasons, not one of which (IMO) had anything to do with Toshiba. The competition isn't in the kind of disc you put media on, it's the media that's on the disc that's competitive. Universal, Paramount, Columbia, Morgan Creek, and all the other entertainment companies will continue to compete for your dollar via those shiny round discs, just like they always have. One last thought...Imagine the nightmare you'd have trying to deliver tandem videos if there were more than one SD DVD format? "Which player do you have maa'm? The Widget? Or the Tweeter?" "Or is it...?" Standards are a good thing, I believe. Notice that once Toshiba stepped out of the game, stock prices for BOTH camps went up? That's because the rest of the market knows one standard is a good thing. BTW, you probably were already aware that Toshiba is a BD licensee? For those that may not have known, Toshiba will be launching BD players soon.
  9. There is currently a free license available. Dunno if it's so or not, but have heard the free license may go away for the use of the BD logo on your DVD's. In other words, putting the logo on DVDs without the license can get you nailed for trademark violation. If you get the free license (only available for small productions such as wedding, event (tandem) videos, then you have no worry, and you even get to have a cool BD logo on your website. http://www.blu-raydisc.info/license_app/lla_apps.php
  10. Not only felt it, but could see my coffee vibrating. At first I thought it was an avalanche in the hills behind me (like that's gonna happen) and then decided it was a monster truck going down the road.
  11. I think users here are probably divided between Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere. I use both, I personally prefer Sony Vegas. So much so that I wrote a book on Vegas and a separate book on Vegas Movie Studio. IMO, the learning curve of Vegas is very small. And it supports AVCHD, which currently, premiere does not.
  12. I don't know what Roxio has in terms of editing support, but Roxio does support BURNING of AVCHD files. Windows Movie Maker didn't have support for AVCHD as of Xmas, but I haven't looked since that time. Sony Vegas Pinnacle Studio Canopus Edius Final Cut Express/iMovie Ulead Movie Studio All support AVCHD
  13. Terry Schumacher has announced a box for the CX7
  14. I have all three (PC, MacBook Pro, Dual Quad desktop). I agree, the Apple side of the MacBook Pro isn't up to snuff for serious editing speed, but it's not the 'puter, it's the software. Opening native HDV and MXF files on the Bootcamp side, I get rock-solid preview speeds, and great editing experience. AIC and ProRes just ain't what they could be. Cineform is a better, albeit more costly alternative, and offers tremendous performance gains, not to mention easy sharing between PC and Apple side media.
  15. If you're more or less starting new and cost is a major factor, I'd recommend the new Sony HCr-52 or HCR-96 Cheap, small, and offers LANC. they start shipping in a couple weeks, and should be less than 200.00 on the street (HCR-52).
  16. This picture and this quote: has me worried about what effect wingsuiting may have on my sexual preferences. Or maybe that crew just swings that way? Jarno, I deserve a "Fly like Brick" membership, if for no reason other than I truly fly like a brick. working on changing that, however. Looking forward to Lodi and Eloy in May, but hoping to find some significant improvement between now and then, if the weather will allow for it.
  17. Hmm...might be hard with the zippers on there, but I'll give it my best. This sounds like the best advice so far. ~Flock with it on the ground. ~Work on flocking in the air. Gotcha

  20. Couldn't agree more with Billy's post. One small add; if you're doing the Road to Seven Pools, either DO tell the car rental place you're doing it, and expect an extra fee, or DON'T tel them, and hope you don't damage the car. It's a rough road. This is one place I know very well, visited at least twice a year. You can go and do nothing and feel great, or go and have a full day and feel great. Halekalea is a "gotta do" thing, IMO. They'll have cold beer and softdrinks at the bottom. There is a great luau to be found at all the hotels, and there is often some great entertainment at the MACC. Walk the beaches at night, you'll often see manta rays right up near the shoreline.
  21. Any ground work needed? Should I be looking for any missed seams or other inspection probs? Other than practicing deployment with the bigger wing, what (if anything) should I be doing before the suit's initial jump? Never have owned a new suit before, and the manual doesn't have a lot to say about it. Or am I just having meaningless but hopeful thoughts that it'll arrive tomorrow like the "receive by" date says, even though the "ship date" still says "waiting to ship?"
  22. Beautiful display of talent, Matt. Sweet stuff as always~! thanks for sharing.
