  1. if you need one to borrow, I've got one you can take.
  2. Haven't jumped the Blue Hole, but with a lot of recent experience in water...I'd recommend ditching the camera helmet and just dealing with a GoPro. For 300.00, it's a lot of peace of mind, IMO.
  3. I wouldn't dispute that statement. What I'm questioning is the "safest track record..." statement. Safest track record would be determined by number of units sold averaged against number of rig-related incidents. Who keeps an objective database of same, and does their database support the claim of "best safety record?" "Most comfortable, easiest to pack, prettiest colors are all subjective, but "safest record" would suggest there is a record of some kind, and said record would be objective, right?
  4. According to whom? Nancy, I have a *tremendous* amount of respect for you, but as you know...there was a major fkup with a Racer in my world this week. That alone raises an eyebrow. Add the very specious claims in this post alone...I'd like to know who rates the containers, and adjudicates which ones have the best safety record vs sales. ie; Javs are very popular, so its expected to have a higher number of known issues. If the Racer isn't popular, it merely means that the fewer sold have had proportionally fewer issues.
  5. Odd that the sport is "dying." Active USPA Membership is up. Overall tandem jumps are up. AFFs are not declining. Maybe outside the USA?
  6. IMO a Racer is all about bulk management. Getting it into the freebag is no different that any other container. The way Nykolas packs in the video works well to distribute the bulk. I personally have no problem with bulk in the bottom. I would much rather it be there than have it in the shoulders. Knowing how to distribute the bulk helps with all pack jobs but it is really needed for a Racer to look good. Is a packing paddle required to put the main in the bag with a Racer?

really fun stuff, Ralph! TY for sharing
  8. AVCHD does use network rendering, this is so. Sorry...I was assuming SD, which doesn't (in Vegas 8/9) Vegas 10 uses network access for mpeg of any flavor. Yeah...I know what PAL is :-) Hopefully you're rendering to not higher than 8.5mpbs. Although new DVD players can manage the higher bitrate, many older DVD players and home computers can't manage the higher bitrate.
  9. I put a fairly heavy guy in a Shadow over the weekend, on his second jump he was flying very well and proximate. Video is on FB. Look at yesterday

As long as I'm the front...
  11. Me. Anyone engaged in the process of learning. Students can teach too, y'know? I learn wingsuit tricks from a lot of people, but I teach more people than I learn from. I know nothing about CRW, but currently undergoing CRW training from a couple guys here in S'nore. I don't think there is a box to put "students" in.
  12. Just as an FYI...distributed rendering in mpg formats doesn't gain you speed. Any other format...yes.
  13. you'll find that Vegas 10 boots MUCH faster, and mpeg-source/destination render times are silly faster. rendering to progressive from interlaced source should cost next to nothing in time, and makes sense for a lot of reasons
  14. Picasa has some terrific integration tools both front and back end.
  15. for PAL, your times are very impressive. I'll assume that's Vegas 10 you're running?

Multiple epi's would be easy to build out in 22 minute slots. Some dude in SoCal is merely bringing this forum to an LCD display near you and hoping to make a buck off it. This forum has practically written his scripts. Cmon...you've seen worst. Check out "The Human Centipede" as one example.
  17. The compression made it more green than it actually is, but the green slime that was on his face when he hit the ground looked like he'd been snorting hay.

Believe me, I feel what you're saying. I work in this industry, and how they're marketing the show demonstrates the lack of professionalism. However....Berry Gordy said it best, "all publicity is good publicity so long as they spell my name right." ANYTHING that promotes skydiving is a good thing, regardless of how you or I feel about the content quality. Without funding going into the show, they're not going to attract quality talent. Getting funding requires someone stepping up and doing their bit. Yes, this promo is horribly, terribly badly edited, and it could have been so much better. Even with the shit iPhone footage, etc, it could have been better by a long, long shot. most any of us here could have done a better job. But...it's getting eyeballs, and who knows? Maybe Donald Trump will see the value in the concept and fund it with more interesting, appealing talent and a production team that has skills beyond basic iMovie. Criticize all you want...an effort is being made, people are trying to achieve something, and while it does look offensively cheap, it's a promo puff piece. Kinda like putting a beat-up Volkwagen Beetle on display when you're trying to sell a Porsche, but...I think the effort being made is commendable. That said, the editor that put this together should hide his head in shame. There are some golden moments in there, but they're lost in the schlock, IMO.

It may be bad...but if it brings more eyeballs to the sport, it can't hurt... It was really stupid of the producers to put this online, IMO. If they're trying to find funding, this is not the industry-standard way to do it, and not a terribly effective way to find funding. But...If it can get eyeballs, that's more people who will want to jump, and the more that want to jump, the more people we have to jump with.
  20. so you've withdrawn THIS offer? "Tell ya what...you can ride my back like a pony, that'll be close to the unicorns Labrys wants. Try to hang on during a flat spin. Would be a new experience for me, too. Never done an intentional with someone on my back before. Might be kinda fun in a butterfly/pony way." That was never an "offer," Robin. Twas a joke that many folks in the wingsuit community understood. S'ok. I understand why you won't/can't get down on the offer I made. No shame in being afraid of a flatspin. Most intelligent people are.
  21. You should care; the moment some dumbfuck hurts a whuffo, it'll likely have a big impact on wingsuits (who are already on FAA radar). That said, you're right, Ed...flatspins are incredibly easy to start and not easy to stop, even if you're experienced. Does the irony of Robin's last posts stymie anyone else? Robin demands 10 jumps to figure out what is required for a TI and whuffo to figure out in one jump. Yo DWE, maybe you should borrow Ron's remedial reading books if he ever finishes them. I demanded nothing; I accepted both of your invitations: one, exactly as you made it; the other, with a counter-offer that expanded one component of said invitation. I'll be in Elsinore next week. Are we on for one or both of your invitations -- or not? You're on for one jump on my dime in a suit of my choosing, with an induced spin, exactly as originally offered and thus declined on your part. Can't WAIT to see you use a "delta" to get out of a spin
  22. I'll be doing a couple presentations on Wingsuiting at PIA, hope to see some of you there. The bigger reason to attend is that the Phoenix-fly Venom and V4 will make their US Debut at the PIA symposium in Reno. Ya wanna be the first to see it; you know where to go. The suits will travel to Elsinore for a while following PIA.

  24. My point was, if you're a visiting skydiver...you will want to have experience. If you learned to skydive in Hawaii, you can skydive just about anywhere. People that come from DZs with lots of outs, low winds, no powerlines, and low experience are likely to have some troubles. It has nothing to do with Pacific vs SDH. I'm pretty partial to SDH, always will be after an experience at PS. However...my opinion is that visiting skydivers need to have their heads on right. Just because SDH has a rule that Pacific hasn't got doesn't mean the rule is without merit.
