  1. me too. Was down there today hopin' to see whales. Be fun flying there with the P2 AirForce...Even with the guy that has a big red c**k on his butt.
  2. It has OIS, so no, not really. If you want to do any backflying, sitflying or wingsuiting forget about it. For bellyfly , mayyybe. But not ideal. The CX7 works just fine for wingsuiting and bellyflying. I use one still for tandems and sometimes for wingsuiting. To another question in the thread... Dave hit it spot-on. If the DZ is cool with GoPro 2 second snap quality, by all means...go that direction (if your self-esteem permits it). It's going to be quite a while before we see a camera that can do quality video and stills in the same unit, although everyone seems to be trying for that nirvana.
  3. Yeah Douglas - but you gotta admit that those peeps looked REALLY COOL, and without the camera there, there's absolutely no way they would have been anywhere even near as COOL. Period. It needs to therefore be argued FOR in absolutely every instance, and every opportunity possible - and for any sport / high-risk activity. I mean... why even bother doing the activity at all in the 1st place, if you can't capture it on your really cool (and totally safe - stop saying it's not! ) small-format camera. You just don't get it, and are trying to hold the newest, most totally cool generation back is all. Cut it out. [/sarcasm mode] Carry on. You're absolutely right. All those great adventurers, pilots, skydivers...they all suck compared to the newbies of today, and the newbies can prove their mad skillz because they have cameras to show their bad azz-nezz. And they'll argue how cool it is until they've seen a few incidents, and then magically, they mostly STFU about it. If nothing else, this topic is a terrific way to get attention when you're feeling alone on a cold winter day.
  4. You missed the point, just as you've conveniently missed it for the last 266 jumps. At some point, conveniently missing the point will likely catch up to you. The skiiing video shows a guy messing with a camera and losing track of his highly hazardous surroundings. In other words, the camera is a distraction. There are similar incidents in several sports activities. Skydiving is not "special." Distractions are distractions regardless of what box you put them in
  5. Only an idjit can't recognize that a camera adds additional tasks and distractions. Check out this guy. I'll bet he wishes he hadn't been messing with a camera... "hundreds of thousands and no incidents?" You meant "fatalities," right?
  6. have you contacted Bonehead yet? There might be some old liners there. Most upholstery shops should be able to help you out if you have the old one as a template.
  7. We've gone down this discussion road before, and a lot of people simply disagree. But...a flexible approach seems to be best.
  8. Both the Venom and the Vampire 4 prototypes were at PIA for sneak previews. A prototype Venom is at Skydive Elsinore for folks to see. The Venom is a very differently-flying suit for PF, it's a sweet add to the lineup. Fast, responsive, and a lot of fun to fly. http://a8.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/180912_1755338076582_1032868837_2002629_6228743_n.jpg Ahh....now that you've edited the post to include the photo... That's not a Venom.
  9. True. But it'll never work because: 1. They think are cool cats. 2. Their buddies think they are cool cats. 3. Young, impressionable jumpers think they are cool cats. 4. Spectators think they are cool cats. 5. S&TAs are quite often think of themselves as cool cats, too. 6. DZOs look the other way when it's one of the cool cat staffers doing it. Very reccent story: "Will you teach me to wingsuit? Can I see your logbook?....You only have 160jumps, so you've got some time and jumps to acheive. Hey, did I see you jumping a 109 XFire? "Yeah, I've been jumping it for the last 40 jumps" That's a little small for your experience, wingloading is higher than we'd like to see you jumping here. "I'm fine with it, I've been practicing my swoops and going really far." What does your DZO have to say about it? "Ask him, he's right there." (DZO says "he's one of my best students." XXX....you're gonna get hurt under that canopy... "Nah, man...I've been jumping it fine." very next day....damaged himself very badly on a botched swoop and high stall. DZO allowed it (visiting foreigners), DZ told him we didn't like it, End result, damaged jumper. You just can't get some guys to learn from the mistakes of others.
  10. Vegas Pro does the job flawlessly, excepting with certain codecs. You can do up to 12x in one pass with Pro.
  11. my first response is that you probably haven't installed DVD Architect yet. Second response is that you're perhaps using a pirate version? (MPEG is disabled due to separate authorization that is hard to find) Be sure you have Quicktime installed on your machine as well. Quicktime is the decoder used by both Sony and Adobe software.
  12. speeding up means each frame has to be resampled. Using a GOP source means it also has to be converted, so that all takes time. Were it a one-off deal, I'd download the trial version of Vegas 10.
  13. This. A lateral-mount, springloaded PC may be the only option due to reach combined with stability, not strength.
  14. Shouldn't take anywhere near that length of time...unless it's a slow, old 'puter. Render to QT animation codec, sequential png, tga then. Even mp4 is gonna hold together better, but nothing of greater compression than DV is gonna hold together past 2 recompresses, especially if the source is AVCHD. Or...download a trial of Pro.
  15. this same comp will occur at Skydive Elsinore on June 18/19. Hopefully we'll have the details on the wingsuitcompetition.com website soon? L&B are providing some gear to help move this event forward.
  16. eeek! I missed the Platinum in your title....sorry! Render to uncompressed if that's what you gotta do. Yes, it's the Xvid codec that is creating black frames. Even rendering to an AVI is better. Is it HD or SD? SD...you'll do better with a DV file. Still sucky compression, but at least it's all intraframe compression (each frame stands on its own).
  17. XVID is gonna look like shit sped up....and it will likely drop out post I-frames. CTRL+Cursor to shrink. Then right click to INSERT VELOCITY ENVELOPE. This will give you a time of 12x. Recompression (especially of a crap codec like Xvid) is a bad avenue if you have to compress more than once. Errors are cumulative.
  18. While you are as correct as Jarno is, we're getting triple your referred scale in DC, for non-PBS work. In Final Cut. Avid commands about the same value these days, although an Avid editor used to be able to demand more. However...you're right. Find out what the house pay is before getting too excited about the gig. Jarno and I work full-time in this industry, so it's quite likely we're coming from what we command vs what the rest of the world may be doing.
  19. to add to Jarno's input... PBS has an exceptionally stringent submission policy. Generally, houses that meet those submission requirements are able to charge a bit more for the service.
  20. Next time, sit so that I can see what's happening in the rearview mirror.
  21. k guys...this has turned into a "sales" thread, specifically against the rules and TOS. ergo; locked thread. Thank you for your participation and cooperation.
  22. Bit if the hipmount/lateral mount can be used for student training, it's much more close to what the student will have should they continue in the sport and have a custom rig built, that would potentially have a BOC deployment. In the couple of unusual circumstances I've worked with, the lateral mount worked well.
  23. There is a hidden video to teach you the secret skydivers handshake, but its URL will not be revealed to you until you undergo being pied and have a special sponsor. And you have to lick whiskey out of Remi's bellybutton.
  24. Rigging Innovations makes a rig cover for tunnel use. You'll want to talk to management @ the tunnel in advance, of course. Their cover covers all hardware and hackey, etc.
  25. For whatever reason, Icarus never had anyone free to do an interview. Stopped by their booth more than once. This year's show was significantly more busy than other years, so some vendors were unable to take the time to do an interview. You won't see CYPRES or Sunpath being interviewed either. We did our best to grab everyone we could. In fact, Jeffro ended up being L&B's spokesman because of how busy Mads and Stefan were, too. The banquet last night was awe-inspiring. Not awesome, inspiring. Colonel Joe Kittinger showed some film, told some amazing stories, and announced he'll be back skydiving in March, 2011, because he's "goddamn sick and tired of people asking 'when was your last jump.' My last jump is gonna be in 2011, so SCREW YOU." The food was great too, filet mignon and shrimp...Howard White did a killer job with the slideshows, live switching of media, and keeping the screens rolling (6 large screens throughout the room). Howard is single now too, ladies...
