  1. Unfortunately his main can't say the same thing. Nice little hole were the tent poles went through. That was something to watch from 5' away. He's super lucky he didn't hit one of the metal poles or when he rolled off landed on the grill. Pride is cheap to fix. Flesh wounds and burns are not.
  2. We still do at Wissota. When we are getting 4ish, its a launch and track. Fun stuff.
  3. Stephan, You did awesome this weekend!!! I don't know anyone that went from their first jump ever to their first four way in just over 24 hours!! (So much for having people say that AFF is a faster pace than S/L). Did you end up with 12 or 13 this weekend? Let me know that you made it home safely!
  4. I had a blast at Couch this year! The only thing that would have made it completely 100% perfect was if we would have got that Texas star built for the women's state record. Next year!!! Thanks to Fort Dodge, all the Des Moines Skydivers and the Skydive Arizona pilots (and everyone else that helped) for putting on a great boogie! See you next year! And Julie...the rides to altitude on Monday at Wissota seemed like the longest rides to 10k' in the history of the world!
  5. Julie, Is the "Shots for Boobs Program" at Wissota going to be valid at Couch too?
  6. Yep, next class is on the 8th at 8am sharp. There's always people around on Friday night so if you want, you can plan to get there Friday night and crash in the clubhouse with all the other non-local jumpers. If you're picky about cleanliness, might want to bring your own blanket/sleep bag and pillow.
  7. We only do S/L classes roughly every other Saturday and Wissota will be closed this Friday, Saturday and Sunday (open on Monday). There are too many of us going to Couch Freaks to have it open.
  8. You consider anything over a 4 way a big way. You get excited for the extra altitude on 8 and 12 ways because the 182 formation goes to 11,000' instead of 10,000'. You've never done a 5 way.
  9. You put peanut butter on both pieces of bread with jelly in the middle. The peanut butter prevents the jelly from making the bread soggie. Works especially well if your packing a lunch to eat later. Editted for clarification.
  10. You've gotten excited when the neighboring farmer decided to plant soy beans instead of corn. When someone yells "20 minute call for Cessna Load 10" and everyone looks dumbfounded.
  11. Ditto...I've been sick all week too. What did they give you? The doc prescribed Pseudovent for me, which makes me a little insomniatic, but its helped me stay awake through the work day and the 2 tylnol PM's I take at night more than enough compesate for the alertness. When I'm sick I always feel guilty that I take feeling well for granted.

    Do you smoke?

In a normal time, Renee's approach might not have been the most effective. However, Renee's is not in a normal time. She's in a difficult time right now and her approach, anger and frustration is or should be understandable. She's not only having to deal with this situation with her aunt, but I'm sure there are a lot of memories and emotions that are resurfacing from losing her mother in a similar situation. I say cut her some slack... Renee--Sorry its a rough time for you right now. Stay strong and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
  13. Question...Wouldn't some of these issues be solved if instead of an instructor trying to radio a student from the air while trying to fly their canopy, or having to wait until the instructor is on the ground to start giving radio assistance... Wouldn't it be easier and safer to have an instructor on the ground with the radio and as soon as the student pulls, they start receiving radio assistence immediately from someone whose full attention are students under canopy that are still on radio assistance?
  14. I wear NorthFace WindStopper gloves. I bought a pair of liners (the Michael Jackson look alike gloves) for when it got really cold, but never ended up using them. A couple of people at my dz got some like Bill described and they worked too. Another thing that helps is the "Winter Grip Rule" at our dz. I didn't ever think to not take grips but Mary says "In winter, if you're in your slot and within grip distance, the point counts".
  15. Ditto here. If its warm enough for the planes to start its warm enough to skydive, and the grass runway is take-off-able/landable. The days are much shorter so obviously you end up doing less jumps.
  16. I was about to reply with "Huh?" but then it dawned on me that I had tabs for Sara Lee and J&J open. They are for work (food broker). We rep J&J and Sara Lee.
  17. I just sent an email and after it sent, this is what popped up on my computer screen. I think its hilarious but wonder what sort of demons dz.com is putting on my computer. After all, it could "compromise my career and marriage".
  18. Right now from my driveway to the dz is 119.7 miles. With traffic (on Friday evenings) it takes me anywhere from 2 hours 15 minutes to 2 hours 45 minutes. The drive home (without traffic) is about 1 hour 45 minutes. I have driven that every weekend but three in the last 16 months. The house has been for sale for four months now, but when I finally sell it, my commute to the clubhouse will be about 60 yards, but only about 20 from the runway. And at night, there will be two planes in "my backyard"
  19. I think it's relavent to also include what type of jump plane and normal exit altitude. $15, 182, 10k (subtract $1 for every 1k' lower)
  20. If you're in the MN/WI area on a weekend (except we're only open Monday of Labor day weekend), head to Skydive Wissota in Chippewa Falls, WI. $15 rides to 10,000 (182 dz) (subtract $1 for every 1000 feet for hnps or lower altitude jumps). Feel free to crash in the clubhouse (pull out couches) and there is a shower. Plenty of skydiving during the day (mostly belly flying with a couple of World Teamers) and plenty of....umm...fun at night. Free beer (although if its your first time at Wissota you might think about bringing something to help refill the fridge). Let me know if you make your way there. I'll plan something special for dinner that night.
  21. I love it. I should try to figure out how to upload a video and get my team's very first competition launch. We barrell rolled a unipod and stayed together. Thanks for posting and sharing!!
  22. And really I wish that you would have know how windy it really was (or I would have know). It definitely was no fun flying backwards trying to avoid the block of woods that I was lined up to land backwards in, not to mention when my canopy started to collapse at 150' but thankfully reinflated fully in time to flare. Yes, I would ride the plane down. I hate airplanes and landing in the 182 is definitely not on my top 10 funnest things to do, but safety wise, if its a choice of winds like Saturday or landing in the airplane, I'll land with the plane. Skymama had it right...better to be on the ground wishing I was in the air than in the air wishing I was on the ground.
