  1. WRONG!!! I am sitting here with L.O. and we jump all winter long in Wisconsin. Not all of us suffer from sandivaginitis.
  2. You're just getting picked on! We are the ones that suffer!

    Crocs shoes

Have you looked at Keen's? I LOVE my Keen's. They have a tennis shoe type sole which makes them comfy but the sandle like top keeps them airy. The secure heel strap and the toe covers are great for skydiving. They even fit under my booties like shoes. They are expensive but hold up great and aren't fugly like crocs. Keens
  4. Oh, this is not so true about Todd. His ass funk is worth getting the door early or cracking the window on a brisk, cold winter day. But the fact that he thinks his shit don't stink is because he no longer has a sense of smell, literally. He has to go by "how moist the air" feels coming out and the expressions on our faces. But I'm sure you were talking figuratively, not literally.
  5. And let me be sure everyone knows that this attitude is being passed on to us newbies. I got my coach rating a little over a week ago and I am so excited to start paying it back! Andy--I wish that that we could move south! Then maybe I would have more than 9 jumps for the year! And this offer is open to anyone: Anyone that wants to come visit Wissota, get in contact with me. I'll arrange to have you picked up/dropped off at the aiport (Minneapolis or Eau Claire) and get you to the dz. You can stay at the clubhouse for free and you'll almost eat for free and the beer fridge is always fully stocked! Cheap weekend skydiving getaway!
  6. If you just want a log book and cover, if you paypal me the money, I'll grab a book and log book cover from my dz and mail it to you. Of course if you're just getting the log book cover to help you get to your $25 minimum, I can just send you a log book too. Give me a call at the dz this weekend (715-726-1616) if you're interested. Also, I would suggest maybe waiting. Your dz should have log books to sell and you could just get one when you go back to jump.
  7. Me, me, me!!! I HATE airplanes. I hate, hate, hate them. I won't go on the first load of the day because in my head, if something is going to go wrong it's going to be on the first load. Of course, I have forgone my semi-irrational first load fear on occasion (hard to say not to doing a four way with three other people that have a combined total of 40,000 jumps). I know exactly the switch from "I'm landing with the plane" to "I'm going silver" and the exact switch from "I'm going silver" to "I'm on my main" on the ride up. I hate turbulance. A lot of people tell me that my fear is irrational. I some what agree. Everyone says, "Riding in a plane is safer than in a car" but when's the last time you heard someone say "So I was in a car accident one time" and when's the last time you heard 'So I was in a plane crash one time"? So, no, you are not alone. As for advice, I like to look at it as "risk vs. reward". I am willing to risk riding in a plane for the wonderful reward of skydiving. The reward far out weights the risk. Just my $0.02.
  8. I am lucky enough to come from a small dz, and we do s/l. By the time someone is on their 10-20 second delay and starting to learn about turning and tracking, we coaches*** and instructors take note that they are returning and usually one of us regulars take them under our wing so they are getting consistant info. Our students really are priority and now that I'm beyond student status, I'm jealous. Its easy to ask questions such as "What did you do on your last dive?" "Ok, turns. How did you do them?" "Ok, and how did it go?". You can then reinforce good responses or maybe give them another way to try if it didn't work out. It works for us, but again, we are a small dz and do not face the challenges of larger dz's. ***I have to admit that part of the reason why I responded to this thread was because I got my coach rating this weekend and was dying to be able to say "We coaches and instructors" someplace. But the info above is 100% accurate.
  9. I live in Plymouth, MN and its 120.7 miles to my dz in Chippewa Falls, WI.

    Chilly!

Thanks for starting this thread. I was just about to post my current conditions and ask for other to beat is so I'd feel better. Currently in the Twin Cities its -6F with -30F windchill. Winds are 22mph gusting to 35mph. That makes the "Real Feel" temp -38F. Yesterday's high temp was 42F. That's a swing of 80 degrees (using the real feel temp) in less than 24 hours. I love Minnesota!
  11. Wait until you go to try to sell your house. You'll find that buying a house is waaaayyyyy easier, especially in this market. My house has been on the market since last April and is currently listed for $2000 LESS than I bought it for 3 1/2 years ago and a few grand less than what the last couple of townhomes in my complex sold for. Yep, I'm taking one up the ass so I can relocate and quite honestly if someone offered me $15,000 under my asking price I'd tell them go to take a hike too but your situation could be different than mine. Good luck and I truely, honestly mean that!!!!! The market sucks right now, very much more so for the sellers than buyers.
  12. Nick, You could give Todd a call, or if you come out to Wissota this weekend, you could talk to him then. He's a Wings dealer. And yeah, you're a [fill in the blank with your own creative explitive] if you don't come out soon!!! Lynn
  13. I applaud you for doing that. I've pretty much spent every weekend at the dz for the last 20 months (since I started skydiving) regarldess rain, shine or snow. I have learned an incredible amount in during the non-jumpable time, which can be almost just as valuable. I still learn an incredible amount and I hope that never stops.
  14. Big weekend for me so I thought I'd start us off.
  15. I work for the foodservice broker for White Wave (parent company of Horizon). Billvon's got it. We also represent Organic Valley. Try some of their milk to compare. Organic Valley truely supports the small family farmers. Farmers need to be "organic" for (I think) 7 years (or around there) before their products can be certified organic. They really take it up the arse those 7 years during transition. Also, everything is regional. So the Organic Valley products in your grocery store are produced in your region. If you lived in New York, you're not buying milk that was produced in Minnesota. That could be why it tends to last longer. On a side note, if you want to give Silk organic soymilk a try, let me know. I'll mail you a bunch of $1.00 off coupons.
  16. Wow. I stayed there in Dec. of 2005 for a friend's wedding.
  17. Yes, the gear can get stinky and yes, bruises are a part of having pucks flung at you. You need to learn to work as one with your gear and most will be avoided. I'm sure you fit right in height wise with the kids so don't be embarressed that you lost. Welcome to the dark side.
  18. No, because Edina stands for Every Day I Need Attention. Suck it up, Cake Eater.
  19. You have no idea. My boyfriend and I have a deal. Either one of us can sleep with him and its not considered cheating. I don't know about him but I've never had to "cash" in yet.
  20. We have 3 182's. The $30,000 was mostly to pay for new engines for two of them. We only go to 10,000' because it takes so long to go higher than that (not economical) unless we are doing formation loads (we aim for 11,000' for 8 ways and 12,000' for the very, very rare 12 ways). We pay $15 to go to 10,000' and the +/- $1 for every 1,000' up or down
  21. He's been doing it for the last 25 years so it shouldn't be long now.
  22. We actually don't pay enough to pay for the fuel and maintenence of the airplanes. In the last two years, the plane's owner has taken about $30,000 out of his pocket to keep them running. I'm very appreciative that he's worked hard his entire life to be in the position to be able to do that for us, and continues to give to the sport instead of taking from it.
  23. You'd then be really shocked to hear that my dz doesn't pay our pilots at all. Heck, we don't even pay our "coaches", we don't pay our packers to pack student rigs or to teach students to pack, and we don't even pay *gasp* manifest (who 90% of the time happens to be me). We are a non-profit club dz. Pilots are paid in the form of their "free flying" hours.
  24. Just got back from the dz. Maybe if it was as warm as it is at Lambeau Field right now we could have jumped, at least one load for Christ's sake. This winter is sucking more than Paris Hilton with a night vision camera.
