Are the recent highs in the DOW just a sign of inflation?
joedirt replied to AdamLanes's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't think it's directly related. It's certainly not the leading cause. If you want to bet on inflation buy gold. Our money system is designed for inflation. Better inflation than deflation. -
"I brought terror to people under the American Flag"
joedirt replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
These sympathizers who see no difference between the U.S. soldier and his enemies are a minority, they just make a lot of noise. Your service is appreciated. -
Wait for public opinion in U.S. and NATO to say no more endless war?

Not a joke pal, what the US did in the 50s doesn't change the result of what happened when Iran took over their own oil production.
-
This is basically what Iran did a couple decades ago. Venezuela's future could easily be like Iran. The problem is efficiency requires technology which requires investment. Nationalized industries drive away investment. Venezuela should prepare for Iran style inflation if they are going to be relying on government industry for wealth. Spending money you don't have only works if your debt is worth something to investors. If they want to threaten the US economically, both countries are going down the wrong road. They should take a page from China and start giving private enterprise more power, or play the role of the silent warrior like Japan untill their economy is better. If they create a more powerful oil cartel the richest people of the world, will only watch for so long untill they find a way around it. Money is the most powerful component of international relations. That's what I think.

FDR took away more rights of American citizens after 12/7/41 than GW Bush has, it's not even a close comparison. Most of it was temporary though. If there is amother large scale attack we will probably lose some rights, but if we have the balls to do what we need to, like under FDR and Truman, it could be temporary as well. Do you have specific reasons why you beleive we will be under martial law or is this just one more way to say Bush = Hitler yet again. Do you beleive it will happen under Obama, Clinton, Edwards, or McCain? Or just republicans, or just Bush?

What's with the legal sytsem and all the damn latin? Can you explain that any better while I get my alias's in order? Can I be tried for a crime that wasn't a crime when I did it?

Exactly, he signed a cease fire with conditions, so we wouldn't finish off his army (remember the highway of death retreating out of Kuwait city), just like we signed a cease fire in WW1 and Korea, that shit never works. Obvoiusly we had to deal with Germany eventually, who knows with Korea. It always comes back to bite us in the ass. He was taking shots at us for 12 years in clear violation of the cease fire and yet even some Americans still call this war "illegal". I can't decide wether George Bush. Sr had incredible foresight or no hindsight.

Seriously?
-
Yes sir that is my opinion, only Americans should have opinions on anything ever... and I looooove walls... and war... and guns. At the next show skip the shrooms... stick with the molson or the cannibis.

I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess "CanuckInUSA" is no longer "inUSA".

His numbers are comparing government aide to a percentage of gross national product. Governmental expenditures are a smaller percentage of GDP in the U.S. than in most of Europe. In that scenario even if the per capita number was exactly the same for two countries, then the percentage would be higher in the European country. He's comparing the wrong things, maybe it's a typo, but I was just responding to a very misleading statistic.
-
This might mean something if the GDP of any of these countries came even close to that of the United States. The GDP of the entire European Union is roughly the same size as the U.S. which makes your statement very misleading.

Because if you make the wrong joke about some other religions, some extremist will grab the first poor pale skinned bastard they can find and saw his head off. It's like making fun of white people in the U.S. It's fashionable, especially by the white people who are above it all.

I've heard people say this before but can't seem to wrap my head around the math on this one. Care to explain?

Amazing to hear the masses saying that they would leave the US

They can buy a house in bizzaro world right next to Alec Baldwin. -
The middle class will change, but it is not a systematic deliberate extermination. This is the evolution to a wealthy economy...agricultural...then manufacturing...then consumer. The wealthy would get wealthier if the middle class was bigger and created more consumerism. Banks don't want to keep people poor...they want to keep them in debt, and the middle class is great for consumer credit. That helps businesses and banks.

Oops, I meant to say demoncrats. Hahahahaha... See what I did there, I added letters to make it sound like democrats are really demons... and that is hi LAR ious. Hahahahahahaha Hahahahahahaha

I would vote democrat if I was in the lowest tax bracket and planned on staying there, but thankfully I'm not retarded so I have figured how to make more than minimum wage. The more you rely on the government the more control they have over you, that's why a lot of those middle eastern countries have absolute control over their people. They are basically rich welfare states from all their damn oil money. The government collects all the profits from the oil and divides it up how they see fit. Sounds like a certain female presidential candidate to me. I guess people are suckers for the robin hood mentality.

Of course... it is their strategy. The ironic part is this strategy could work in Afghanistan too, the "good war".

I don't think torture of any kind should be done, I think it's pointless and inhumane. I do know that if I had to be captured by a group of American soldiers or radical Muslim fighters or North Vietnamese or North Koreans or Chinese or Japanese or Germans, I would take my chances with Americans. Based on these groups histories of past treatment of prisoners I would say we have not dropped down to their "level", especially the terrorist groups. Sawing a live mans head off slowly with a blade while saying Allah every 4 seconds seems a different category than "waterboarding", but that's just me.

If you believe this conversation took place, I have a cassette tape called "War of the Worlds" that will scare the shit out of you.
