  1. O.K., I'll use your logic and focus on causes. Gavrilo Princip was responsible for Pol Pot's "utopia". Gavrilo Princip murdered Archduke Ferdinand...which led to WWI... which led to the treaty of Versailles... which gave Hitler his opportunity for conquest... which started WWII... which started the cold war... that led to the U.S. involvement in Indochina. It's as much Gavrilo Princip's fault then.
  2. Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge only got their opportunity because of the Nixon/Kissinger meddling. That's funny how you blame Nixon for "creating the opportunity" for Pol Pot to come to power instead of the ones who actually funded and trained him.
  3. So would president Billvon send in another coup organizer to Iran if the talking didn't work, and become one of the hypocrites himself?
  4. Holy Shit! I guess theres nothing we can do then about the Iranian military training and supplying insurgents in Iraq. Insurgents who are killing lots of people including U.S. soldiers. Wouldn't want to look like a hypocrite. Damn man...when you don't want to take a side you sure don't.
  5. Waaaay to many big words for me there sister. I'm gonna go back to kneeeling in front of my George bush poster and fantasizing about conquering the world. Surely this must be my daily routine if I disagree with you.
  6. Rest assured you are... pretty sure the president doesn't have to take advice from these people.
  7. You can compare two differrent places but that wont tell you much. Some states without CP have murder rates lower states that do. This comparison uses different control groups...just like comparing the UK to the US. Now if you look at the same place...with and without CP...it is something to consider. Of course there are other variables. If 9 out of 10 child molesters were molested as a child, it doesn't necessarily mean that being molested turns you into a child molester. It IS something to consider though... and say hey maybe there's something to that. I'm not for or against the death penalty, I'm just looking at the only data out there.
  8. Relax pal, they're just numbers. You can still do all the speculation you want.
  9. Murders per 10,000 people started to rise between the 1950's and 1980's in the U.S. when there was a drop in the annual number of legally sanctioned executions. When the number of executions rose during the 1990's and early 2000's the U.S. murder rate declined. According to Roger Leroy, who writes economics textbooks, every additional legally sanctioned execution is associated with about 5 or 6 fewer homicides. Each judicial reduction of a death penalty sentence is associated with one or two additional murders. You can speculate as to why, but these are the actual numbers.
  10. That's funny. Reminds me of a sitcom I saw once. Husband: "We should sell". Wife: "No, we're in this for the long term... at least two or three weeks".
  11. I think saying it's "illegal" became vogue somewheree along the line
  12. This thread should be fun to read. Poor enlightened people... surrounded by so much ignorance.
  13. Most people who are raised in strict religious environments go through this, it's not new. This is a young mans argument. If any of these questions could be answered, philosophy and religion would be over and a lot of people would be out of work. People who believe these things go on faith so it doesn't matter. Faith in an afterlife isn't a terrible thing.
  14. I can't wait for nationalized health care, so I can quit my job and let the rest of you working stiffs pay my way. I've decided i'm voting for whatever candidate will promise nationalized food and water too. Shit if health care is a right then certainly food and water is too.
  15. Which currency or meatal did you use against the dollar if you don't mind telling? I won't criticize ... I promise.
  16. I never said how long anything would take, I said how long it's been. You said "it will take just as long". Don't put words in my mouth ye master of recent history.
  17. Well I agree with you if nooneelse does. This used to be a country where people took care of themselves. Have you ever read Frederick Turner's frontier thesis?
  18. Think of a graph that looks like an upside down "U". X axis is tax rate and y axis is tax revenue. The idea is to be at the top of the graph where tax payers will produce the most money. Now someone making 8 bucks an hour is probably well under the threshold on the left side of the graph, while the wealthy and the corporations are well over the threshold on the right side of the graph. So when you lower taxes you see a difference because the wealthy and the corporations are paying the bulk of the tax, not the low wage earners.
  19. The bulk of tax revenue comes from the wealthy and the corporations. If you think an increase in tax revenue is due to all the newborns and recent fence hoppers you should study economics. If you can't recognize this very simple economic principle of taxation revenues in relation to an elastic economy you just sound like a sucker being fed a line of bullshit by pundits.
  20. Well they've had almost as long as Christianity, Muhammed was born only a few hundred or so years after Christ right? Have the Muslims had a renaissance or an enlightenment?
  21. People who understand that taxation revenue runs on a curve with a peak. Taxes have been cut but tax revenue has gone up.
  22. Damn, I agree with your whole post. Muslims need to do what Christians started doing a few hundred years ago. They need to start toning it down before this really does turn into a clash of civilizations. It's tough when one side thinks it's fighting a religious war and the other doesn't.
